Angry Birds Seasons version 2.2.0 brought the Year of the Dragon episode to the game in January 2012. The Chinese New Year-themed update added 15 levels, a Golden Egg and a decorative Big Banner; it was an episode within Seasons, not a separate game.
What the January 2012 announcement was about
The headline comes from Droid Life’s January 20, 2012, post announcing an Angry Birds Seasons update. Its brief report described the Chinese New Year and dragon inspiration and pointed readers to a themed animation and an Android Market listing. That date was not the first release date on every platform: the archived rollout record lists iOS a day earlier. Droid Life’s original announcement
What version 2.2.0 added
The archived version history identifies the update as version 2.2.0 and lists the Year of the Dragon episode, 15 new levels, one Golden Egg and the Big Banner. The contemporary Droid Life report connects the episode’s theme to Chinese New Year. Archived version history
An archived game description says the birds celebrate the start of the Year of the Dragon while the piggies try to frighten them away from their eggs. That is a record of the episode’s story framing, not evidence of detailed cultural representation or specific gameplay mechanics. Archived episode description

How the episode fit into Angry Birds Seasons
Seasons grew through episodes tied to holidays and seasonal occasions rather than being one fixed campaign. In the version-history chronology, Year of the Dragon followed Wreck the Halls and preceded Cherry Blossom:
| Version | Episode | Recorded release |
|---|---|---|
| 2.0.0 | Ham ’o’ Ween | October 21, 2011 |
| 2.1.0 | Wreck the Halls | December 1, 2011 |
| 2.2.0 | Year of the Dragon | January 19–20, 2012, depending on platform |
| 2.3.0 | Cherry Blossom | March 7–8, 2012 |
These version numbers and dates are from the archived version history. The episode’s place in that sequence shows how the game’s recurring content moved from winter holidays into a New Year theme and then spring.

Can you play it now?
The archived rollout records establish that the update reached the listed platforms in 2012; they do not establish whether Angry Birds Seasons or this episode can be installed from an official storefront in 2026, or whether it works on current devices. The old Android Market link in the contemporary post is not proof of present-day availability. Check a current official storefront or publisher information for availability and compatibility; historical records alone cannot confirm either.
The 2012 “Year of the Dragon” wording is historical: it refers to the Chinese zodiac year that began in 2012, not to a new release for 2026.
