Katrina tells your daily luck on Harv’s Island and can read your friendship with a chosen villager. A luck reading costs 1,000 Bells; if it is bad, you can pay 10,000 Bells to cancel its effects for that day—not turn it into good luck. The reading can affect money, tool durability, stamina, island tours, and villager relationships, so it is most useful before you start the activities you want it to influence.
Where to find Katrina and what she offers
Katrina’s stall is in the plaza on Harv’s Island, among the shops added with the free Version 2.0 update. Nintendo describes her as a fortune teller who can reveal the day’s luck or tell you about your relationship with an island resident. Her luck reading covers belongings, health, money, or friendship. Nintendo’s Harv’s Island plaza guide confirms her location and 1,000-Bell reading fee; its Version 2.0 overview summarizes the fortune categories and purification option.
Luck reading
Pay Katrina 1,000 Bells for one of the four daily fortune categories. According to the detailed mechanics guide, the effects begin only after you ask for the reading; they last for that day. If the fortune is bad, Katrina offers purification for an additional 10,000 Bells.
Friendship reading
This is a separate interaction: choose a villager and Katrina gives an indirect indication of your friendship tier. The reading itself is free. If the villager is below friendship level 5, you can pay 10,000 Bells for a blessing that adds 2 friendship points, according to the 2.0.0 update datamine.

What each daily fortune changes
Nintendo confirms the broad categories and says good luck can improve the chance of a rare island on a Kapp’n boat tour and make villagers more likely to approach with something to share. The precise mechanics and numbers below come from the community-maintained 2.0.0 update datamine, rather than Nintendo’s official documentation. Some outcomes depend on game conditions or island eligibility.
| Fortune | Good luck | Bad luck |
|---|---|---|
| Money | A glowing spot contains 5,000 Bells instead of 1,000. Shaken money trees give 300 Bells instead of 100, and 1,000-Bell balloon rewards become 3,000 Bells. In the documented non-Bunny Day conditions, the chance of a gold nugget from a rock hit rises from 1% to 11%; you can get at most one gold nugget from rocks on your own island that day. | No glowing spot appears, money rocks behave like normal rocks, and gold-nugget drops from island rocks are suppressed in the stated conditions. Certain higher-value Bell balloon drops are replaced by 1,000 Bells. Nook Miles Ticket travel will not take you to Gold Island. |
| Belongings | Tools do not use durability during ordinary use. Villagers may approach with gifts, and you are guaranteed a roll for a rare Kapp’n island if it is eligible for your character. If your character is too new for the selected rare island, the datamine describes a fallback. | Each tool use has a 30/99 (about 30.3%) chance to consume an extra durability point. Kapp’n takes you to a normal Haniwa island, where clay appears instead of a gyroid fragment. Nook Miles Ticket travel will not take you to Gold Island. |
| Health | Food-based power-gauge increases are doubled. The toilet dialogue changes, but its function does not. | Food-based power-gauge increases are halved, and you may trip. The toilet dialogue changes without a functional effect. |
| Friendship | You immediately gain 1 friendship point with a random villager you have spoken to. Villagers may also approach with a gift. | You immediately lose 3 friendship points with a random villager you have spoken to. |
Should you purify bad luck?
Purification costs 10,000 Bells after the 1,000-Bell reading. The datamine says it prevents all fortune effects for the rest of that day, rather than swapping bad luck for the corresponding good outcome. It also triggers a mailed item the following day: one of four possible items, not a specific collectible you can choose.
Whether that trade is worthwhile depends on what you plan to do and how much the bad result would interfere. If you are about to use tools extensively, take a boat tour, gather money, or interact with villagers, consider whether avoiding that fortune’s penalty is worth the fee. If you will not do activities affected by the result, or would rather save your Bells, you can simply leave the bad fortune in place.

What Katrina’s friendship dialogue means
The friendship reading gives a tier rather than an exact point total. These mappings are documented in the player-facing guide and 2.0.0 datamine. The displayed line for levels 5 and 6 is the same, so Katrina’s dialogue does not tell you which of those two levels you have.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When to visit Katrina
Because the fortune takes effect after the reading and is day-specific, visit before the activities it could affect. For example, check belongings or money luck before hitting rocks, shaking trees, or spending Nook Miles on travel; check health luck before using food for power; and consider the friendship result before a day of villager interactions. This timing is practical advice based on the documented daily effects, not a separate in-game requirement.

- Take in-game photos of your designs and add them to your portfolio. Show them to other characters and you may get more requests to create vacation homes. Share the photos with other players using the in-game Showroom in the Happy Home Network app and they can tour your personally-designed resort islands or go tour theirs for some relaxation and inspiration.
- Purchase the Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise DLC from Nintendo eShop, or download and play it as part of an active Nintendo Switch Online plus Expansion Pack membership at no extra cost.
Tripping can have other causes: the player-facing guide notes that wearing a King Tut mask can cause tripping independently of Katrina’s health result.
Sources and limits of the mechanics
Nintendo’s Harv’s Island plaza guide and Version 2.0 overview establish Katrina’s role and broad effects, but do not publish all numerical mechanics. The detailed player-facing guide is Nintendo Life’s Katrina guide by Kate Gray, published January 20, 2026. Precise probabilities and point values above are attributed to the community-maintained 2.0.0 datamine; they are documented game mechanics, not Nintendo-published figures or independent test results.
