Steam lists the Windows edition as free to play, released April 8, 2026, and says Mac and Linux clients are unavailable. On macOS, the supported route described for this title is the Android edition running inside an emulator such as BlueStacks Air; Windows users can use either Steam or the Android emulator route.
This guide explains what each build is, which computer requirements apply, and how to install the correct version without confusing an Android app with a Mac Steam release.

At a glance: the two ways to play Annulus
| Route | What you install | Supported host | Store/account | Availability |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steam | Native Windows PC game | Windows | Steam | Free to play; released April 8, 2026. Steam currently lists no Mac or Linux client. |
| Android emulator | Android app inside BlueStacks | Windows PC or Mac; BlueStacks describes BlueStacks Air for Mac | Google Play accessed through the emulator | Separate Android build with its own app updates and in-app-purchase terms |
The distinction matters. An emulator does not turn the Steam build into a Mac application; it runs the Android edition in a virtualized Android environment. Conversely, the Windows Steam listing is not merely an emulator wrapper. Use the route that matches your operating system and the build you want.
Steam describes the game as “a unique dark fantasy tactical game.” The Google Play description centers on leading a mercenary company: you recruit and train mercenaries while gathering weapons and resources. Those descriptions identify the genre and progression loop, but they are store copy rather than independent reviews.

What Annulus is
Annulus is a dark-fantasy tactical game built around managing a player-led mercenary company. The Android listing describes recruiting and training fighters, then collecting weapons and other resources as the company develops. Expect the strategic decisions and roster management associated with that premise rather than a simple action-only game.
The same title appears in two distribution channels. Steam’s listing is the Windows PC product, while Google Play’s listing is the mobile product that BlueStacks presents for desktop use. They may receive updates on different schedules, and the available account, save, and purchase systems can differ. Do not assume that owning or installing one automatically grants the other.

Route 1: install the native Windows Steam edition
Before you start
- Create or sign in to a Steam account and install the current Steam client.
- Confirm that the PC meets the game’s minimum specifications in the table below.
- Reserve at least 15 GB of free storage for the game, plus additional space for Windows updates and temporary installation files.
- Use a broadband internet connection; Steam lists internet connectivity as a requirement.
Download steps
- Open the Annulus Steam store page.
- Sign in to Steam, select the option to add or install the game, and choose the Windows library location with enough free space.
- Let Steam download and validate the files. Keep the Steam client open until the installation finishes.
- Launch Annulus from your Steam Library. If Steam offers a first-run download or redistributable, allow it to complete before troubleshooting the game itself.
Steam lists Annulus as free to play. “Free to play” means no purchase price is shown for the base Steam download; it does not establish that every version, optional item, or future service is free.

Steam’s published minimum specifications
| Component | Steam minimum listing |
|---|---|
| Operating system | 64-bit Windows; the minimum OS line names Windows 7 SP1 64-bit, Windows 8.1 64-bit, or Windows 8 64-bit. |
| Processor | Intel Core i3 4th generation or AMD Ryzen 3 |
| Memory | 6 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 or AMD Radeon HD 7870 |
| Graphics API | DirectX 11 |
| Storage | 15 GB available space |
| Network | Broadband internet connection |
The Steam page separately notes that the Steam client supports Windows 10 and later, while its game minimum line still names older 64-bit Windows versions. Because those statements are not perfectly aligned, check the live listing and your current Steam client compatibility before relying on an older operating system. Steam also states that Mac and Linux clients are not currently available.

Route 2: play the Android edition through an emulator
BlueStacks’ Annulus page and installation guide describe a different route: install the BlueStacks emulator, sign in to Google Play, find Annulus, and install the Android app. For Mac, the guide specifically points to BlueStacks Air. This is the Android edition running through an emulator, not a native Steam Mac port.
BlueStacks’ stated emulator requirements
| Component | BlueStacks requirement |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 7 or later, or macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later |
| Processor | Intel, AMD, or Apple Silicon |
| Memory | At least 4 GB RAM |
| Storage | At least 10 GB free space |
| Permissions | Administrator access |
| Drivers | Current graphics drivers |
These are BlueStacks’ published requirements for its emulator route, not the minimum specifications for the Steam game. They also do not guarantee a particular frame rate or battery life. BlueStacks’ performance and safety statements are provider claims; no independent performance test is established here.

Install on a Windows PC
- Open BlueStacks’ Annulus on PC and Mac page and download the emulator installer for Windows.
- Run the installer with administrator privileges. If Windows blocks the file, use the operating system’s security prompt to verify that you obtained it from the official BlueStacks domain before proceeding.
- Start BlueStacks and complete its first-run setup. Sign in to Google Play with the account you want associated with the Android app.
- In the emulator’s Play Store, search for Annulus. Check the developer and listing details before selecting Install so you do not choose a similarly named app.
- After installation, open Annulus from the BlueStacks home screen and complete any in-app download. Keep the emulator updated if the app reports that its Android environment is unsupported.
Install on a Mac
- Check that the Mac runs macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later and has an Intel, AMD, or Apple Silicon processor as specified by BlueStacks.
- Use BlueStacks’ Mac instructions and select BlueStacks Air where the guide identifies it for macOS. The relevant guide is How to Install and Play Annulus on PC with BlueStacks.
- Grant the macOS permissions requested by the emulator, including administrator authorization where required. macOS security prompts can require a restart before virtualization components become active.
- Open the emulator, sign in to Google Play, search for Annulus, and install the Android listing.
- Launch the game from BlueStacks Air. If the app does not appear, verify that the Google Play account, emulator architecture, and macOS version meet the provider’s requirements.
Because this route depends on an Android compatibility layer, an Android update or a BlueStacks update can affect launch behavior independently of the game’s Steam build. Keep both the emulator and the app current, and record your in-game account details before changing emulator instances.
Choosing between Steam and the emulator
| If you want… | Use… | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| The desktop-native Windows release | Steam | It is the Windows build with Steam distribution and the published PC game specifications. |
| To play on macOS | BlueStacks Air and the Android app | Steam currently lists no Mac client, while BlueStacks documents an Android-emulator path. |
| The Android store edition | BlueStacks on Windows or Mac | Google Play is accessed inside the emulator. |
| One setup with the fewest software layers on Windows | Steam | The native client avoids adding an Android emulator, subject to meeting Steam’s requirements. |
Do not install both routes expecting them to share saves, purchases, or progression. The available material does not document cross-platform save synchronization, so treat Steam and Google Play installations as separate unless the game’s own account system explicitly confirms otherwise.

Google Play listing, updates, and purchases
The English Google Play listing was accessed October 13, 2026 and showed more than 50K downloads. That is a changing store-reported count, not an audited total of active players and not evidence of quality or performance. The listing showed an update date of May 15, 2026; update dates can change as the developer publishes new versions.
Google Play labels the app Teen and identifies violence, blood, and in-game purchases. It also displays subscription disclosures, including a weekly card listed at $0.99 for seven days and a monthly card at $2.99 for 30 days in the retrieved listing. Prices, currency, taxes, terms, and availability can vary by region and can change, so confirm the live Google Play page immediately before subscribing. Steam’s free-to-play label should not be used to infer that these Android purchase disclosures apply to the Windows build.
Troubleshooting the common failures
Annulus is missing from the Mac Steam search
This is expected when looking for a native Mac client: Steam currently says one is unavailable. Use the Android-emulator route instead, provided the Mac meets BlueStacks’ requirements.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The Steam installer says the PC is unsupported
- Check that Windows is 64-bit and that the processor, graphics card, DirectX 11 support, RAM, and 15 GB storage meet the published minimums.
- Update graphics drivers and Windows, then restart Steam.
- Recheck the live Steam listing because its older minimum-OS wording and current Steam-client support statement are not fully aligned.
BlueStacks installs but Annulus will not start
- Confirm that virtualization and any permissions requested by the emulator are enabled; restart after macOS or Windows security changes.
- Update the graphics driver on Windows or macOS and update BlueStacks itself.
- Verify that at least 4 GB RAM and 10 GB free storage remain available after the emulator is installed. Closing heavy applications can reduce memory pressure.
- Open Google Play inside the emulator and check for an Annulus update. An Android app update may be independent of Steam.
The game runs slowly in the emulator
BlueStacks publishes requirements but not an independent performance benchmark for Annulus. Close other demanding applications, allocate only the memory and processor capacity your computer can spare, and lower in-game graphics settings if Annulus provides them. If performance remains unacceptable, compare the result with the native Windows Steam route rather than assuming the two builds have identical settings.
Safety and account checks before downloading
- Use the official Steam, Google Play, and BlueStacks pages linked in this guide rather than third-party installers.
- Match the app name, icon, and publisher details before installing a Google Play result.
- Review subscription renewal terms in your local Google Play account; the displayed dollar prices are not universal regional prices.
- Keep enough free disk space for updates, not only the initial 10 GB or 15 GB figures.
- Back up or note account credentials before uninstalling an emulator, because the available material does not establish a shared save system between Steam and Android.
Which download should you use?
On a Windows PC that meets the Steam specifications, choose the Steam edition for the native desktop build and the simplest Windows installation path. On a Mac, choose BlueStacks Air with the Android edition because Steam currently offers no Mac client. If you specifically need the Android store version, BlueStacks is the documented PC-and-Mac method. Whichever route you select, verify the current store listing, requirements, update status, and purchase terms at download time because those details can change.
