If you want the closest licensed connection to The Boys, start with The Boys: Trigger Warning—but it is a PlayStation VR2 story in which you play Lucas, not Homelander. If your priority is actually controlling Homelander, Mortal Kombat 1 is the direct answer: he is a guest fighter with flight and laser-eye attacks. For a larger power fantasy, Prototype 2 delivers open-world shape-shifting destruction, while inFAMOUS Second Son explores a world where superhumans are hunted. Hatred is a deliberately marked-outlier choice for players who want nihilistic violence without superheroes.
The list below separates literal matches from games that only satisfy part of the fantasy—playing an arrogant superhuman, treating ordinary people as obstacles, or watching institutions collapse under extraordinary power.

Quick comparison: which game best matches your Homelander mood?
| Game | What you control | Power fantasy | Platform or hardware | Match to the title |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Boys: Trigger Warning | Lucas, a newly empowered character | Using powers to infiltrate Vought with Butcher and the Boys | PS5; PlayStation VR2 headset and PS VR2 Sense controllers required | Direct The Boys setting, but not a Homelander game |
| Mortal Kombat 1 | Homelander as a guest fighter | Flight, laser eyes and brutal one-on-one combat | Xbox Series X|S availability was announced for the character’s 2024 launch; check current platform editions | Best literal way to play as Homelander |
| Prototype 2 | James Heller, transformed into a “PROTOTYPE” | Shape-shifting revenge in an open-world outbreak | Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S | Best adjacent pick for unrestricted superhuman destruction |
| Prototype | Alex Mercer, a shape-shifter | Playing an almost uncontrollable biological weapon | Biohazard Bundle listed for PS4 and Xbox One | Older adjacent pick with the same predatory power fantasy |
| inFAMOUS Second Son | Delsin Rowe, a superhuman in conflict with authorities | Power, pursuit and a society that fears people like you | PS4 | Strong setting match for superhuman oppression; morality details are not assumed here |
| Hatred | A civilian-killing rampage protagonist | Nihilistic violence against civilians and armed forces | PC | Explicit tonal outlier, not a superhero game |
| ULTRAKILL | A combat machine in a fast first-person shooter | Speed, creative weapons and relentless violence | Verify current official platform information | Optional shooter substitute, not a superhero story |
There is no honest universal ranking here. A licensed setting, a playable Homelander, an open-world rampage and a first-person slaughter shooter are different fantasies. Choose by the column that matters most to you.

How to choose an anti-superhero game
1. Decide whether the universe matters
If seeing Vought, Butcher and the Boys is essential, only The Boys: Trigger Warning on this list is set directly in that universe. The game’s premise follows Lucas after a family tragedy as he uses newly acquired powers to infiltrate Vought alongside Butcher and the Boys. It does not put you in Homelander’s role.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Decide whether you must play Homelander himself
Mortal Kombat 1 is the only selection here that explicitly gives you Homelander. The trade-off is format: he is a guest fighter in a fighting game, not the lead in an explorable city. You get his signature attacks inside matches rather than a free-roaming superhero campaign.
3. Decide whether the fantasy is destruction or oppression
Prototype 2 is about becoming a shape-shifting weapon and taking revenge. inFAMOUS Second Son is about superhumans being feared, hunted and caged by an authority called the Department of Unified Protection. The first emphasizes physical excess; the second emphasizes conflict between powered people and the state.
4. Set your tolerance for cruelty and context
Hatred removes the superhero framing almost entirely and centers on indiscriminate killing. It belongs only if you specifically want a bleak rampage game. ULTRAKILL is a movement-and-gunplay alternative whose violence is stylized and fast, but it is not a licensed superhero experience.

The Boys: Trigger Warning: the direct universe match, with a major hardware warning
What the game is
PlayStation’s US Store listing identifies The Boys: Trigger Warning as a PS5 release from Sony Pictures Virtual Reality, released June 9, 2026. The story follows Lucas, who gains powers after a family tragedy and joins Butcher and the Boys in an attempt to infiltrate Vought. That makes it the strongest choice for readers whose main requirement is being inside The Boys world.

- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)

Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
What it is not
The listing does not describe Homelander as the playable character. Buying this game because you expect to fly around as Homelander would be a category mistake: the player role is Lucas, and the story is framed around working with the vigilantes against Vought.
Required equipment
The PS5 version requires a PlayStation VR2 headset and PS VR2 Sense controllers. Those requirements are not optional accessories for a conventional flat-screen edition; they are the hardware specified for play. Check that you own both the headset and the Sense controllers before buying the game.
Price and purchase timing
The PlayStation Store page showed $29.99 when it was accessed. That is a time-sensitive store price, not a guaranteed current or regional price. Check your local PlayStation Store listing for the live amount, edition and availability.
Who should pick it
- Choose it if the licensed setting is more important than controlling Homelander.
- Choose it if you already have PS5, PlayStation VR2 and both Sense controllers.
- Skip it if you want a non-VR open world or a playable Homelander.
Mortal Kombat 1: the clearest way to play as Homelander
Why it is the literal answer
Homelander appears as a guest fighter in Mortal Kombat 1. NetherRealm Studios designer Joe Epstein described the work behind the character in an Xbox Wire feature dated May 30, 2024. The design includes flight, laser-eye attacks and a deliberately brutal presentation intended to feel like the character from the show rather than a generic super-powered guest.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Epstein summarized the guiding test as: “Does this feel like Homelander?” The question informed poses, movement, sound effects and facial expression. That focus is why this is the best selection when your non-negotiable requirement is the character himself.
Understand the format before buying
This is a fighting game. Homelander is selected for matches, not used as the protagonist of an open-world campaign. You will not be patrolling a city, choosing a civilian population to intimidate or following a Homelander-led story in the way a dedicated action game might. The appeal is concentrated into combat animations, attacks and presentation.
Release timing
Xbox Wire listed June 4, 2024 for Kombat Pack early access and June 11, 2024 for wide availability on Xbox Series X|S. Those are historical launch dates for the guest character, not a statement about today’s price, bundle contents or every platform edition. Check the current edition and add-on requirements in the store where you intend to play.
Who should pick it
- Choose it if “I want to play Homelander” is your exact requirement.
- Choose it if you prefer short, replayable bouts to a campaign.
- Skip it if you specifically want open-world movement, exploration or a The Boys story.
Prototype 2: the open-world superhuman revenge fantasy
What you play
Xbox describes James Heller as being transformed into a “PROTOTYPE,” gaining shape-shifting powers while pursuing revenge against Alex Mercer. The premise gives you a protagonist who is no longer constrained by an ordinary human body, which is the closest adjacent match for the feeling of overwhelming physical superiority.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Why it fits the anti-superhero mood
The appeal is not a licensed satire of celebrity superheroes. It is the ability to move through an outbreak-torn city as a biological weapon. Shape-shifting turns the player character into a tool for pursuit and destruction, making the game a strong choice when your priority is scale and freedom rather than a specific television character.
Platforms
The Xbox product listing names Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, with Activision as publisher and Radical Entertainment as developer. Store editions and backward-compatibility behavior can vary, so confirm the listing for your console before purchase.
Who should pick it
- Choose it for a broad, third-person action experience built around shape-shifting power.
- Choose it when you want a campaign protagonist rather than a guest character.
- Skip it if the presence of Vought, Homelander or The Boys continuity is essential.
Prototype: Alex Mercer and the original shape-shifter power fantasy
The original Prototype is the earlier, Alex Mercer-centered counterpart. Activision’s official bundle description identifies Mercer as a shape-shifter and lists the Biohazard Bundle for PS4 and Xbox One. That makes it useful for players who want the source of the series’ predatory transformation concept or who prefer Mercer’s role to Heller’s.
It remains an adjacent recommendation, not a The Boys game. Nothing in the cited description supports presenting Mercer as Homelander, a superhero celebrity or a moral equivalent of him. The connection is functional: both fantasies revolve around extraordinary power, contempt for normal physical limits and the ability to treat a city as a playground for a dangerous superhuman.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Who should pick it
- Choose it if you want the earlier version of the shape-shifting concept.
- Choose it if your available hardware is PS4 or Xbox One and the listed bundle suits you.
- Skip it if you need the newer game’s James Heller storyline or a licensed television setting.
inFAMOUS Second Son: superhumans under institutional control
What the setting emphasizes
PlayStation describes inFAMOUS Second Son as a PS4 action adventure in which superhumans are feared, hunted and caged by the Department of Unified Protection. That setup captures a different part of the Homelander appeal: the social collision between people with extraordinary abilities and institutions determined to control them.
Keep the comparison precise
The available official summary establishes the hunted-superhuman premise, but it does not substantiate detailed claims about an evil route or a specific villainous karma path. Do not buy it expecting a confirmed “become Homelander” campaign. Its fit comes from the conflict between power, public fear and state authority.
Who should pick it
- Choose it if the setting and social consequences of superhuman powers interest you.
- Choose it if you want an action-adventure structure rather than a fighting game.
- Skip it if your goal is indiscriminate civilian killing or direct The Boys continuity.
Hatred: the explicitly labeled nihilistic outlier
What the developer describes
The developer’s PC page presents a protagonist who sets out to kill civilians and then fights armed forces that respond. This is a game about an indiscriminate rampage, not a superhero, superhuman or comic-book world.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Why it appears on this list
Some players use “anti-superhero” to mean “I want to be the threat rather than the rescuer.” Hatred satisfies that narrow desire through nihilism rather than superpowers. There is no Homelander connection to imply, and its inclusion should be understood as a tonal comparison only.
Who should pick it
- Choose it only if the central appeal is uncompromising rampage violence.
- Do not choose it for superhero abilities, satire of celebrity heroes or a licensed universe.
- Check the PC store listing and local content rules before purchase, since its premise is intentionally extreme.
ULTRAKILL: a conditional pick for speed and violent spectacle
A community-maintained reference describes ULTRAKILL as a fast-paced, ultraviolent first-person shooter built around movement and creative gunplay. Those traits can appeal to someone who wants to feel overwhelmingly lethal, but they do not make it a superhero game or a The Boys adaptation.
Because the cited information comes from a community wiki rather than a publisher listing, treat this as a lower-confidence recommendation. Verify current official platform availability, edition details and system requirements before relying on it. Include it on your shortlist only when speed, weapon experimentation and first-person intensity matter more than playing a named superhuman.
Match the game to the exact fantasy you want
| If you want… | Pick | Why | Main compromise |
|---|---|---|---|
| The licensed world | The Boys: Trigger Warning | Lucas works with Butcher and the Boys against Vought | PS VR2 hardware is required, and Lucas—not Homelander—is playable |
| Homelander’s signature moves | Mortal Kombat 1 | Guest-fighter design includes flight and laser eyes | It is match-based combat, not an open world |
| Open-world superhuman destruction | Prototype 2 | James Heller becomes a shape-shifting weapon | No The Boys continuity or Homelander |
| The earlier shape-shifter concept | Prototype | Alex Mercer is presented as a shape-shifter | Older release and still only an adjacent fit |
| Superhumans versus authority | inFAMOUS Second Son | Powered people are hunted and caged by the D.U.P. | The available description does not establish a specific evil route |
| Pure nihilistic rampage | Hatred | Its premise centers on killing civilians and resisting armed forces | It is not a superhero game |
| Fast first-person violence | ULTRAKILL | Community description emphasizes movement and creative gunplay | Official platform information must be checked separately |
Buying and setup checklist
For The Boys: Trigger Warning
- Confirm that you have a PS5.
- Confirm that you have a PlayStation VR2 headset.
- Confirm that both PS VR2 Sense controllers are included and working.
- Open your regional PlayStation Store page and verify the current price, edition and release availability.
- Buy it only if playing Lucas in the licensed universe satisfies your goal; do not assume it is a Homelander simulator.
For Mortal Kombat 1
- Check the current edition of Mortal Kombat 1 for your platform.
- Verify whether Homelander is included in the edition or requires the relevant character package.
- Confirm that your platform supports the edition you are buying; the cited Xbox Wire launch information covers Xbox Series X|S dates, not every current storefront.
- Choose this route if guest-fighter matches are acceptable.
For the adjacent games
- Check the live store listing rather than relying on an old price.
- Confirm console generation and backward-compatibility details, especially for Prototype and Prototype 2.
- For Hatred, read the platform’s content description before purchasing.
- For ULTRAKILL, use an official store page to verify platform and system requirements.
Final verdict
Mortal Kombat 1 is the best answer to “Which game lets me play as Homelander?” Its guest-fighter format is a limitation only if you expected an open world. The Boys: Trigger Warning is the best answer to “Which game puts me in The Boys universe?”—provided you have PS5, PlayStation VR2 and Sense controllers, and you are comfortable playing Lucas instead of Homelander. For the broadest superhuman power fantasy, choose Prototype 2. Add inFAMOUS Second Son for a more institutional, hunted-superhuman perspective, and reserve Hatred or ULTRAKILL for players whose priority is extreme violence rather than superhero identity.
