Aoi Tori here means Purple Software’s adult visual novel for PC, not the unrelated Fujifabric single or a printed The Idolmaster piano score with the same romanized title. The game combines supernatural drama and literary references with explicit sexual material; readers should check the content notes and edition details at the retailer they plan to use.
What is Aoi Tori?
Developed by Purple Software and published in English by NekoNyan, Aoi Tori is a PC visual novel. Rob MacIntosh’s May 2024 review describes a story centered on Ritsu Shiratori, a young man living at an all-girls Catholic school in the mountains of Japan. Ritsu can remove negative emotions and bring about bliss; the review says this effect is strongest through sexual contact. Read the NookGaming review.
The premise mixes supernatural elements and drama with erotic content. The review also discusses guilt and meaning as part of the story’s concerns, but those are critical observations rather than a publisher’s genre or content specification.
How the story is structured
The review describes a prologue followed by a choice among the main heroine routes, with an additional story opening after the three main routes. It does not establish an official route order or offer a balanced comparison of the routes’ tone and importance to the larger story, so there is no well-supported recommended sequence here.

Does Amatsutsumi come first?
No prior knowledge is necessary according to MacIntosh’s review. Aoi Tori shares a universe with Purple Software’s Amatsutsumi and refers to the earlier game’s “kotodama” concept, but the reviewer found it mostly self-contained. Playing Amatsutsumi may add context, but it is optional rather than a prerequisite.
What does the title refer to?
The title and literary discussions point to Maurice Maeterlinck’s play The Blue Bird. This is a spoiler-light piece of context, not a requirement for following the visual novel. The review identifies the play as a reference, but does not establish a particular print edition as currently available. The review discusses the connection.
Adult content and edition checks
MacIntosh describes the version reviewed as adult-only and notes explicit sexual content, fetish material, uncensored CGs, and suicide themes. Those details are observations about the edition played for that review; they do not verify the current rating, content configuration, or availability of every English edition. Check the specific storefront listing and its content notes before purchasing.
Where to find the English PC version
The May 2024 review names JAST USA, MangaGamer, and Denpasoft as purchase sources. That listing does not confirm present-day availability or identical edition details across stores. Check each retailer’s current product page for those specifics.

The romanized title is not unique. Fujifabric released a separate single called “Aoi Tori” on January 10, 2007, and CiNii Books catalogs a printed piano score titled Aoi tori: from The Idolmaster, dated February 2021. Neither is the Purple Software visual novel. The Fujifabric entry concerns the song, while the CiNii Books record identifies the printed score.
