Apex Legends arrived on the Epic Games Store on August 6, 2024, after Epic announced the release date on July 29. It is available there now, and EA describes the game as free to download and play.

Yes. EA’s current Apex Legends page links to the Epic Games Store, alongside other platform storefronts. The August 6 date in the original announcement was August 6, 2024—not an upcoming release date.

Epic’s announcement, published July 29, 2024, said the game would arrive on the store August 6 (US time).
Is Apex Legends free on Epic Games Store?
EA says Apex Legends is free to download and play. Downloading the game is separate from any purchases made within it. EA also specifies that persistent internet access and an EA Account are required; platform accounts or subscriptions may be required where applicable. Check the EA FAQ for its current requirements.

What to know about accounts and progress
Progress is permanently tied to an EA Account and cannot be moved to another EA Account, according to EA’s cross-progression guidance. Platform accounts must be linked to use cross progression.
EA says players are prompted to link their Epic Games and EA accounts when they first play an EA game through Epic. Epic’s support guidance on EA game progress describes progress across the EA app and Epic when the same EA Account is linked, in the context of a game purchased on both storefronts. That guidance is not a promise that ownership or entitlements transfer between stores.

Can you use a controller on PC?
A controller is optional. EA’s FAQ says Xbox and PlayStation controllers are officially supported on PC; it does not identify a specific model or make a general claim about every third-party controller.
