Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is a good fit if you want an Atelier adventure built around open-field exploration, gathering, crafting and real-time combat. Its biggest change is also its clearest caveat: it moves away from the more traditional turn-based feel, so longtime fans who value that rhythm should weigh the shift before playing.
What is Atelier Yumia about?
Alchemist Yumia Liessfeldt and her companions journey across Aladiss, a ruined continent where alchemy is taboo. The story follows their efforts to uncover the truth behind its destruction, with memory at the heart of the premise. Nintendo’s official game listing describes a loop of exploring, collecting ingredients and synthesizing items that help advance the story, fight enemies and explore further.
How different is it from other Atelier games?
Yumia combines open-field traversal, resource gathering, alchemy, real-time action combat, quick field crafting and base construction. Synthesized items are useful beyond the workshop: they support both combat and exploration, while building and decorating bases adds another activity between expeditions. KOEI TECMO Europe presents the open-world adventure and real-time battles as a departure from the series’ traditional formula.
That change is deliberate. In an interview published on 20 June 2025, Atelier series producer Junzo Hosoi told AUTOMATON WEST that the team “expanded the RPG experience in Atelier Yumia” by introducing action-packed battles and an open-world system. If you enjoy a more active combat pace and room to roam, those choices may be a draw; if you want the familiar turn-based structure, they are the main reason to approach it cautiously.
#1 Best Overall
- Create items interwoven with “mana”
- SYNTHESIS: Manipulate the "mana" residing in materials to create new items based on recipes. The items you craft will exhibit powerful effects in various situations, such as exploration and combat. The strength of an item's power depends on the materials used in synthesis, so select your materials carefully while assessing the power of the embedded mana
- A captivating variety of actions with “range” and “items”
- In real-time combat, you'll be tested on your ability to make split-second decisions. Utilise two types of attack ranges ("range") and switch between skills to fight strategically. Additionally, synthesised items can transform into shapes such as swords or spears, which can be used to attack. Since these items are reusable, don't hesitate to deploy them and drive away enemies that stand in your way.
What do the reviews say?
Reception depends on which kind of review you mean. Steam’s live English-language user-review snapshot, accessed 7 October 2026, showed 73% Mostly Positive from 639 reviews overall, while 23 recent reviews were rated Mixed at 47%. These are player-review figures, not critic scores, and Steam’s totals and sentiment can change.
In June 2025, GamesRadar described critical reviews as generally favorable while noting mixed reactions among some Atelier fans to the game’s action-heavy departure from series conventions. That is editorial context, not a quantified poll of the fanbase. Hosoi also described Yumia as the fastest-selling Atelier title to date in the AUTOMATON WEST interview; he did not give an absolute sales figure.

Is Atelier Yumia worth playing?
Consider it if you want an exploration-led RPG where gathering and synthesis feed into battles and progression, and you are open to a more action-oriented Atelier. It is a less obvious choice if turn-based combat and the older series rhythm are central to what you enjoy about Atelier. The core question is not whether Yumia is “more Atelier” in every familiar respect, but whether its open-field and real-time design suits the kind of RPG you want.
