Start by noting where the crash happens and whether it began after a game, Windows, or graphics-driver update; then work through the matching checks below rather than reinstalling immediately.
First identify what kind of crash you have
A game closing to desktop is not the same problem as a blue screen or full PC restart. The distinction helps narrow the cause:
- Closes to desktop: Apex exits but Windows remains usable. Game files, settings, overlays, drivers, and patch bugs are common areas to investigate.
- Freezes or shows a black screen: A graphics-driver hang, fullscreen/display configuration, overlay, or system instability may be involved. If the display is stuck, press Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B to ask Windows to reset the graphics driver; this can restore the display, but it is not a lasting fix for recurring crashes. Microsoft explains this graphics reset shortcut.
- Shows an anti-cheat error: Use the procedure for the exact error rather than deleting anti-cheat files at random.
- Blue-screens or restarts the PC: Investigate Windows, drivers, and hardware as well as Apex. Treat this as a system crash, not an ordinary game exit.
Before changing anything, record when the crash occurs (launch, lobby, firing range, loading screen, or match), the exact error text, when the problem began, whether you use Steam or the EA app, and your CPU, GPU, RAM, Windows version, and graphics-driver version. Note any overclock or undervolt and whether other games—especially those using anti-cheat—also fail.
Check for a patch-specific issue before troubleshooting locally
If crashes began just after an Apex update, check the official Apex news and patch-note page and the official Steam announcement history. Respawn’s March 11, 2026 patch notes, for example, included a fix for a Wild Card interaction that could cause crashing. That is evidence that some crashes are game-side regressions, not proof that a current crash has the same cause. If many players report the same failure after a patch, wait for official guidance rather than repeatedly changing your PC.

A download bar on Apex’s launch screen can mean Steam is still updating the game in the background. Let the update finish before launching; EA includes this note in its Apex error-code guidance.
Try the low-risk checks first
- Close Apex and fully exit Steam or the EA app, reopen the launcher, and let any game update finish.
- Install pending Windows updates, then restart the PC.
- Close nonessential overlays and monitoring tools for a test: Discord, Steam and EA overlays, NVIDIA or AMD recording overlays, Xbox Game Bar, MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner Statistics Server, RGB or motherboard utilities, macro/remapping software, VPNs, and other security or game-enhancement tools.
- Temporarily disable GPU and CPU overclocks or undervolts. If memory instability is suspected, test without XMP/EXPO as well. Change one thing at a time so you can identify what matters.
EA notes that software can interfere with the launcher or anti-cheat system in its PC anti-cheat troubleshooting guidance. Close suspected programs rather than uninstalling them. If Apex becomes stable, reopen them individually to find the conflict.
Repair or verify Apex’s files
File repair is a sensible early step for a damaged or incomplete installation. A successful check means the launcher found and repaired files or found them intact; it does not rule out a driver, Windows, overlay, hardware, or game-side problem.

EA app
- Open the EA app and go to Library.
- Find Apex Legends and select the Manage icon (three dots) on the game tile.
- Choose Repair and let the check finish.

Steam
- Open Steam and go to Library.
- Right-click Apex Legends and select Properties.
- Open Installed Files, then select Verify integrity of game files.
If verification repeatedly reacquires the same files, close the launcher and restart Windows; also check that the drive has free space. Repeated corruption may point to antivirus quarantine or a drive problem. Do not download replacement DLLs from unofficial sites. Steam’s Apex technical-support page is available for platform-specific help.
Use anti-cheat fixes only for matching errors
EA’s Apex error guidance refers to Easy Anti-Cheat for the listed Apex errors. EA also has a separate page for EA Javelin anticheat; that separate documentation does not mean every Apex player should install, remove, or repair Javelin.

Integrity-check failure
For “The client failed Anti-Cheat runtime integrity check,” EA identifies an anti-cheat integrity problem, potentially involving a corrupted file, and recommends repairing Apex through the EA app. Repair the game before considering more disruptive steps.
Error 30005
EA identifies error 30005 as an anti-cheat launch failure. First repair the game files using the EA app or Steam. If that does not work, EA’s documented procedure is to open C:Program Files (x86)EasyAntiCheat, delete the .sys file in that folder, and restart the PC. This deletion instruction is specifically for error 30005; do not apply it to an unrelated crash or delete arbitrary Windows driver files.

Update or roll back the graphics driver based on timing
A newer driver is not automatically the right answer. If Apex started crashing immediately after a graphics-driver update, try rolling back; if the driver is old, damaged, or Windows reports a graphics-device problem, seek an appropriate update from your GPU or PC manufacturer.

Roll back a recent driver
- Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, right-click your GPU, and select Properties.
- On the Driver tab, select Roll Back Driver if available, then restart Windows.
Microsoft documents driver update and rollback guidance. If rollback is unavailable, use the GPU or PC manufacturer’s support channel rather than a third-party driver-download site.
Consider a clean driver installation when corruption is plausible
For AMD Radeon GPUs, AMD’s installer has a Factory Reset option for a clean driver installation, described in its stability guidance. A clean install is a diagnostic measure for a suspect driver transition or corruption, not a guaranteed Apex fix.

- If crashes happen during heavy GPU load, check CPU and GPU temperatures, power stability, and overclock or undervolt settings. A full restart or blue screen deserves broader hardware investigation.
- If Apex crashes in the menu or at launch, prioritize files, anti-cheat, launcher, configuration, and background software before assuming the PC is underpowered.
- Temporarily cap the frame rate and return graphics options to defaults. If the crash began after changing settings, test borderless/windowed mode and remove custom launch options.
- On a laptop with integrated and discrete graphics, confirm Apex is using the intended GPU. For multiple monitors or HDR, test with HDR and unusual refresh-rate configurations disabled.
- EA lists 6 GB RAM as Apex’s minimum in its official PC system requirements. Meeting a minimum is a baseline, not a guarantee of stable performance.
If you suspect a configuration file, preserve a copy before changing it. Rename a known settings folder rather than deleting it, and only use file locations confirmed for your current installation; an unverified path or indiscriminate deletion can remove settings without addressing the cause.

Repair Windows components if other checks fail
DISM and System File Checker can repair Windows components and protected system files. Open Command Prompt as administrator, run DISM first, wait for it to complete, then run SFC:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
sfc /scannowMicrosoft’s procedure says to wait for “The operation completed successfully” after DISM, then for “Verification 100% complete” after SFC. Restart and test Apex. Microsoft’s DISM and SFC instructions explain the tools and outcomes. “Did not find any integrity violations” means Windows found no protected-file corruption; it does not establish that Apex itself is healthy. If SFC cannot repair files, follow Microsoft’s recovery guidance rather than downloading DLLs.
Use a clean boot to isolate background conflicts
A clean boot starts Windows with non-Microsoft services and startup apps disabled, which can show whether a background item is involved. It does not prove that every disabled program is incompatible. This test requires administrator access and temporarily disables functionality.
- Search for
msconfigand open System Configuration. - On Services, select Hide all Microsoft services, then select Disable all.
- Open Startup and select Open Task Manager.
- Disable enabled startup apps, restart, and test Apex.
After the test, restore normal startup: open msconfig, choose Normal startup on General, re-enable the services and startup apps you disabled, and restart. Follow Microsoft’s clean-boot instructions if the labels or steps differ on your Windows version.

When to reinstall—and when to stop
Reinstall Apex only after less disruptive checks if verification repeatedly fails, the installation or launcher appears incomplete, anti-cheat cannot be repaired, or the failure persists after driver, overlay, Windows, and configuration tests. Reinstallation is unlikely to fix a bad graphics driver, Windows corruption, a software conflict, unstable hardware, or a current game-side bug. If repeated file corruption returns after repair, investigate the drive and security software instead of looping through reinstalls.
If several players began seeing the same crash after an update, or official EA guidance indicates a fix is pending, stop changing local settings and monitor the official Apex news page. For a support report, include the exact error, where and when it crashes, launcher, CPU/GPU/RAM, Windows and driver versions, and which repair, rollback, anti-cheat, or clean-boot steps you tried. Attach the relevant Apex_crash.txt or crash-report information if available. For a blue screen or restart, also record the stop code, Reliability Monitor or Event Viewer entries, temperatures, and any minidump information.
