Retail pricing is volatile: a later Best Buy page capture showed $37.99 for the white model, so verify the exact price, color, seller, stock and delivery option at checkout. This is the right-handed, USB-A wired Basilisk V3—not the wireless V3 X HyperSpeed or the premium Basilisk V3 Pro models.
Deal check: is the 43% discount real?
Yes, the arithmetic is genuine when the sale price is $39.99: $69.99 minus $39.99 equals $30, or approximately 42.9%, normally displayed as 43%.
| Price detail | What was shown |
|---|---|
| Sale price | $39.99 on an Instacart Best Buy listing and an indexed Best Buy result |
| Comparable value | $69.99 |
| Calculated saving | $30, approximately 43% |
| Later Best Buy capture | $37.99 for the white model |
These are retailer promotions, not a permanent Razer price cut. Razer’s U.S. catalog lists the standard Basilisk V3 at $69.99. Check the exact product page before paying, because price can change with color, location, inventory, shipping versus pickup and promotional timing. The $39.99 presentation is documented at Instacart, while Best Buy’s listing and model information appear on its white-model page.
A $39.99 deal was also reported by PCWorld on April 3, 2024; that historical article does not prove the same price is available today.

Which Basilisk V3 is this?
The deal concerns the original wired Razer Basilisk V3. Best Buy identifies the white version as model RZ01-04000300-R3U1; the black version has a different SKU. Do not confuse it with:
- Basilisk V3 X HyperSpeed: wireless, with a different feature set and nine customizable controls in the cited Best Buy listing.
- Basilisk V3 Pro and V3 Pro 35K: substantially more expensive premium wireless models.
- Basilisk V3 35K: a newer product in the family, not the same discounted original V3.
What you get for roughly $40
| Feature | Verified detail |
|---|---|
| Connection | Wired USB-A |
| Controls | 11 total programmable buttons |
| Sensor | Up to 26,000 DPI, with up to 650 IPS tracking speed and 50G acceleration reported by Tom’s Hardware |
| Wheel | HyperScroll tilt wheel with tactile and free-spin behavior |
| Shape | Right-handed ergonomic body with thumb rest |
| Lighting | Razer Chroma RGB |
| Cable | Non-detachable braided cable, approximately 6 feet (1.8 m) |
The 26,000-DPI ceiling is headroom, not a promise of better aim. Most players use much lower sensitivity; sensor specifications alone do not make a player more accurate.

Is it good for gaming?
Where it works well
- Eleven controls suit MMOs, RPGs, strategy games, simulations and games with many bindings.
- A thumb rest and ergonomic shell favor palm and relaxed-claw users who prefer support over a minimalist shape.
- Wired operation eliminates charging, battery aging and wireless-receiver management.
- The wheel’s tactile and free-spin modes are useful in games and long menus.
- The sensor specification is far beyond what normal gaming requires.
Where it falls short
- It is wired only, and the fixed cable can drag or snag unless routed or supported.
- The USB-A plug may require an adapter or dock on USB-C-only laptops, tablets and hubs.
- The right-handed shell excludes left-handed users.
- It is a feature-rich ergonomic mouse, not an ultralight esports design.
- Extra buttons can cause accidental presses or configuration work if you only want a simple five-button layout.
- RGB changes appearance, not gameplay performance.
Tom’s Hardware described it as a versatile option for buyers who accept a cable and specifically noted the USB-A limitation: coverage and specifications.
Can it replace an office mouse?
For many users, yes. The additional buttons can handle browser navigation, application shortcuts, document scrolling, editing commands and other repeated actions, while the ergonomic body may suit long sessions better than a flat basic mouse. It is overkill if you only need pointer movement, and school or workplace computers may block the software needed for remapping and lighting.

- RAZER HYPERSPEED WIRELESS AND BLUETOOTH — Unleash seamless, low-latency performance that's faster than other wireless tech or switch to Bluetooth for longer hours of gaming. Outfitted with multi-device support for a streamlined setup

- RAZER 5G ADVANCED 18K OPTICAL SENSOR — Tailor the mouse to the playstyle with a new, robust set of sensitivity settings. Enjoy responsive, pixel-precise aim with an ultra-reliable sensor that tracks movement with zero spinouts

Basic pointing should work as a standard USB mouse. Advanced button assignments, profiles, macros and RGB control generally depend on Razer software; requirements, account prompts, supported operating systems and menu labels can change. Check Razer’s current support and download information before installing. Individual games and applications may block remapping or macros, and competitive titles can impose their own rules.
Wired trade-offs to consider
Advantages
- No charging or battery replacement.
- Simple plug-in setup without a wireless receiver.
- No wireless interference to manage.
Disadvantages
- Cable drag and possible snagging on desk edges or monitor stands.
- Less convenient for couch use or a cable-free desk.
- USB-A compatibility is not universal on newer mobile setups.
Who should buy it at $39.99 or less?
- Right-handed users who want an ergonomic palm or relaxed-claw shape.
- MMO, RPG, strategy and simulation players who will use many bindings.
- People wanting one mouse for gaming and productivity.
- Buyers who prefer wired reliability and do not want to charge a mouse.
- Anyone targeting a feature-rich mouse below about $50.
Who should skip it?
- Anyone who requires wireless connectivity.
- Left-handed users or people who dislike large ergonomic shells and thumb rests.
- Competitive FPS players prioritizing the lightest possible design.
- USB-C-only setups without a suitable adapter or dock.
- Buyers who want a basic five- or six-button mouse with no configuration overhead.
- Shoppers seeking the newest wireless system, sensor generation or polling-rate technology.
Wireless and premium alternatives
| Model | What changes | Price signal and best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Basilisk V3 X HyperSpeed | Wireless connection and nine customizable controls | Best Buy related-product listing showed $54; choose it when eliminating the cable matters more than lowest price or maximum controls. |
| Basilisk V3 Pro 35K | Premium wireless positioning and newer-generation features | Best Buy related-product listing showed $159.99; aimed at enthusiasts, not bargain shoppers. |
| Lighter ambidextrous or FPS-focused mouse | Less ergonomic bulk and often fewer controls | Consider this category if competitive FPS weight or left-handed use is the priority; no single comparable price is established here. |
Bottom line
At $39.99 or less, the wired Basilisk V3 is a strong value for right-handed buyers who want abundant controls, an ergonomic shape, RGB and a capable sensor without battery management. The deal is not compelling for users who need wireless connectivity, USB-C compatibility, left-handed support or an ultralight esports design. Confirm the live retailer price and exact model before checkout rather than treating $39.99 as a permanent price.
