Apex Legends Season 21: Upheaval ran from May 7 to August 5, 2024, and is no longer the live season. Its headline additions were Alter, a Broken Moon map update, and a broad balance pass affecting weapons and existing Legends. This is a historical overview of the Season 21 launch notes, not a guide to the game’s current balance.
When did Apex Legends Season 21 launch, and what was it called?
EA’s season-history page lists Season 21 as “Alteración,” with dates of May 7 through August 5, 2024, and identifies Alter as its Legend. The English patch-note title is Apex Legends™: Upheaval Patch Notes. Those dates define the season’s historical context; the changes below describe its launch update, not October 2026 live-game rules.

What did Alter bring to Season 21?
Alter was the season’s new Legend. Her kit was built around reaching through barriers and enabling movement or regrouping:
- Passive — Gift From The Rift: remotely interact with a death box to claim one item, excluding a Shield Core.
- Tactical — Void Passage: create a passage through a surface.
- Ultimate — Void Nexus: place a regroup point that allies can use to phase back to it.
These are concise descriptions of the abilities; consult EA’s official notes for the precise mechanics, restrictions, and upgrade details that applied at launch.

What changed on Broken Moon?
Upheaval included a Broken Moon map update. EA’s patch-notes page links to a separate Upheaval highlights blog for the full map breakdown. The patch notes alone do not establish a complete list of changed locations or map details, so use that dedicated overview for a POI-by-POI account rather than inferring specifics from the brief patch-note reference.
Which weapons changed in the Season 21 patch?
The most visible loot-pool change was the Wingman’s return to floor loot and the Devotion’s move into the Care Package. EA’s 2024 Upheaval patch notes give the following launch-balance values:
Rank #2
- The Art of Apex Legends
- Dark Horse Books
- ABIS BOOK
| Weapon | Season 21 change | Other notable notes |
|---|---|---|
| Wingman | Returned to floor loot; damage became 45, down from 50. | Projectile size returned to pre-Care Package values; Skullpiercer Elite was removed; hipfire accuracy was reduced; Boosted Loader became compatible; magazines could no longer be attached. |
| Devotion | Moved into the Care Package; damage became 16, up from 15. | Gained Reverse Hipfire; purple-magazine capacity increased to 54 from 48. |
All numeric weapon values here are EA’s Season 21 patch values, not a claim about later patches. EA’s other weapon notes included removing Skullpiercer from the loot pool, adding Boosted Loader, removing the 1x Digital Threat, and removing Skullpiercer and barrel stabilizer from the 30-30 Repeater. The Charge Rifle received ADS recoil improvements; the Longbow received changes to base recoil, projectile gravity, and ADS timing; and the Triple-Take gained Boosted Loader compatibility. See the official notes for exact wording and the full list.

What else did EA note in Upheaval?
EA’s notes state that “The first loot bin opened by an unarmed player will always contain a weapon.” This is a patch-note statement, not a guarantee that every later bin will contain a weapon. In a developer note about the Longbow, an unnamed developer wrote: “We’ve always considered the Longbow a great entry level sniper that’s easy to run.”
