Apple and Sony’s reported Vision Pro controller project is no longer just a rumor. Apple added official PlayStation VR2 Sense controller support in visionOS 26, bringing six-degrees-of-freedom tracking, finger-touch detection and vibration feedback to compatible Vision Pro apps.
The current feature is more limited than “PlayStation VR2 support” might suggest. It lets Vision Pro use Sony’s controllers as spatial input devices; it does not turn the headset into a PS5, provide access to the PS VR2 game library or guarantee compatibility with every visionOS game.

From a 2024 report to a shipping feature
In December 2024, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple and Sony were working to bring PlayStation VR2 Sense controller support to Apple Vision Pro. The project had reportedly been in development for several months, and the controllers were expected to be sold separately rather than bundled with a complete PlayStation VR2 headset. The timing was uncertain, and the planned announcement had reportedly been delayed. MacRumors’ report attributed those details to Gurman; Apple and Sony did not announce a joint partnership at the time.
A February 2025 follow-up report said the feature remained in development and was expected to arrive through a visionOS update later that year. That report was also based on Gurman’s information.

Apple subsequently confirmed the feature. In October 2025, Apple announced that visionOS 26 supports PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers, with U.S. availability for the controller-and-charging-station bundle beginning November 11, 2025. As of 2026, this should be treated as an available Vision Pro feature rather than an unconfirmed project.
Why Vision Pro needed dedicated VR controllers
Vision Pro already works with conventional gamepads, including compatible PlayStation and Xbox controllers. Those devices are useful for traditional games, but they primarily provide buttons, analog sticks, triggers and vibration.
Dedicated VR controllers add a different input model. The PS VR2 Sense controllers can track their position and orientation in space across six degrees of freedom. They also provide finger-touch detection and haptic feedback. That makes them better suited to experiences in which the player needs to aim, grab, manipulate objects or move their hands quickly while receiving physical feedback.

|---|---|
| Traditional gamepad | Buttons, sticks, triggers and vibration for conventional games |
| Vision Pro hand tracking | Natural gaze-and-pinch interaction, browsing and spatial UI |
| PS VR2 Sense controllers | Physical controls combined with tracked position, orientation, finger sensing and haptics |
Hand tracking remains valuable, but it is not always a substitute for physical controls. Fast games, button-heavy interfaces and VR mechanics that depend on tracked hand position can benefit from dedicated controllers.

For developers, controller button and trigger events are handled through Apple’s Game Controller framework. Spatial tracking data can be accessed through RealityKit or ARKit. Apple’s WWDC25 presentation on spatial gamepads also covers enabling spatial accessory support in Xcode and declaring the required accessory-tracking usage description in an app’s property list.
That distinction matters. An app may recognize the controllers as ordinary gamepads without using their full spatial capabilities. Whether position tracking, finger sensing or haptics are available depends on how the developer built the experience.

Price, compatibility and what is included
Apple’s U.S. store listing prices the PlayStation VR2 Sense Controller and Charging Station bundle at $249.95. The U.S. price and November 11, 2025 availability date should not be assumed to apply unchanged in every country.
The package includes:
- Left PlayStation VR2 Sense controller
- Right PlayStation VR2 Sense controller
- Controller charging station
- AC adapter
- AC power cord
- Two USB adapters
The controllers support wireless and USB connections, use Bluetooth and contain built-in rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. Apple’s current store listing identifies compatibility with both M2 and M5 Apple Vision Pro models. This is not an M5-only feature.
The accessory is sold separately from the headset. For context, Apple announced the M5 Vision Pro with a U.S. starting price of $3,499. The controllers therefore make sense primarily as an upgrade for an existing Vision Pro owner, not as a reason by themselves to buy into Apple’s platform for gaming.

How to pair the PS VR2 Sense controllers with Vision Pro
Each controller must be paired individually through Bluetooth.

- Hold the PlayStation button and Create button at the same time.
- The Create button is to the left of the joystick.
- Keep holding until the pairing indicator on the bottom begins blinking.
Pair the right controller
- Hold the PlayStation button and Options button simultaneously.
- The Options button is to the right of the joystick.
- Continue holding until the pairing indicator begins blinking.
Complete pairing on Vision Pro
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth and make sure Bluetooth is enabled.
- Tap the left controller in the device list while its indicator is blinking.
- Repeat the process for the right controller.
After pairing, battery levels and controller customization are available under Settings > General > Game Controller. Apple’s visionOS 26 support guide contains the pairing instructions and warns that not all apps support spatial accessories.
If pairing fails
- If the light stops blinking before the controller appears, repeat the appropriate button combination.
- Pair the left and right controllers separately rather than trying to add both at once.
- Charge the controllers before troubleshooting further.
- Disconnect them from a nearby PS5 or other device that may be trying to reconnect.
- Disconnect unused Bluetooth accessories if wireless performance is unreliable.
- Confirm that Vision Pro is running a version of visionOS with spatial accessory support.
If one controller pairs but the other does not, put only the missing controller back into pairing mode and repeat its specific button combination.
What compatible games and apps can do
Support is app-specific. A compatible title may use the controllers as conventional gamepads, while another may use tracked position and rotation, finger-touch input and haptic feedback. The presence of a controller in Vision Pro’s Bluetooth settings does not mean every game will automatically gain spatial controls.
Possible uses include:
- Conventional games: Buttons, sticks and triggers can replace touch or hand input.
- Spatial games: Developers can use six-degrees-of-freedom tracking for aiming, grabbing, motion-based interaction and other VR mechanics.
- Creative applications: Tracked controllers can offer more precise manipulation than gaze and pinch for some editing, sculpting or media workflows.
- System navigation: Apple supports controller input for navigating parts of the visionOS experience.
- Shared and full spaces: Apps can use the controllers within the space model they support, subject to their own implementation.
The original 2024 report also described possible uses beyond gaming, including more precise scrolling, selection, productivity and media-editing workflows. Those possibilities should not be confused with a promise that every such workflow is supported system-wide.

What the controllers do not do
This is controller compatibility, not a PlayStation integration layer.
- They do not turn Vision Pro into a PS5.
- They do not provide access to the PS VR2 or PS5 game libraries.
- They do not make the PS VR2 headset compatible with visionOS.
- They do not automatically make every visionOS game work with tracked controls.
- They do not guarantee that every compatible app will use haptics or positional tracking.
Sony’s own compatibility documentation continues to describe the Sense controllers primarily within the PlayStation VR2 and PS5 ecosystem. On Vision Pro, they function as spatial input devices for compatible visionOS software.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Are they worth buying?
For existing Vision Pro owners
The purchase is easiest to justify if you specifically want tracked hand controllers, physical buttons, haptics or games designed for spatial accessories. It expands Vision Pro’s input options without requiring another headset.
For buyers primarily interested in VR gaming
Do not buy a $3,499 Vision Pro expecting the $249.95 accessory to create a broad gaming platform. The controllers improve the input hardware, but they do not solve the size of the visionOS gaming catalog or provide Sony’s console software library. A gaming-first VR platform may offer a larger ecosystem for less money.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →For productivity and media users
The controllers are difficult to justify if your main activities are watching films, browsing, working with Mac Virtual Display or using ordinary productivity apps. Hand tracking and a standard gamepad may already cover your needs.
Best Value
- Smart, streamline, ergonomic design, fits snug to your fingers providing accuracy and flexibility.
- Small, portable size and light weight, convenient to use
- Six modes for Music, Video, Game, VR, Selfie, Mouse
- Bluetooth 3.0 compliant. Compatible with Android and IOS systems (IOS is not fully compatible)
- Works with 2 x AAA batteries of 1.5V (not included) for continuous gaming up to 120 hours.
For developers
The feature makes it more practical to design for physical spatial input alongside hand tracking. Developers should support standard Game Controller input where appropriate, add spatial tracking only when it materially improves the experience, request the required accessory-tracking permission and allow the app to degrade gracefully when controllers are unavailable.
Developers should also test the difference between shared-space and full-space behavior. A game that expects tracked controllers should explain its requirements clearly rather than leaving users with a connected device that works in menus but not inside the experience.
Common problems and what they mean
| Problem | Likely explanation |
|---|---|
| The controller works in menus but not in a game | The app may not support spatial accessories or may accept only conventional gamepad input. |
| There is no positional tracking | The app may be using standard Game Controller events rather than spatial tracking, or may not have implemented the required tracking support. |
| There is no vibration | Haptic feedback is controlled by the app and is not guaranteed in every title. |
| Only one controller connects | Pair the missing controller separately and repeat its correct left- or right-side pairing sequence. |
| The controllers keep reconnecting elsewhere | Disconnect them from a PS5 or another nearby device before pairing with Vision Pro. |
| Bluetooth is unstable | Reduce the number of active Bluetooth accessories and retry pairing. |
The current answer to the original story
Apple and Sony were reportedly working on Vision Pro controller support in December 2024, but the collaboration was not announced as a joint product at that time. Apple later delivered the underlying feature in visionOS 26 and began selling a $249.95 U.S. bundle containing both PS VR2 Sense controllers and a charging station.
The result is meaningful for input: Vision Pro can now support physical, tracked VR controllers with finger sensing and haptics. It is not, however, a PlayStation VR2 headset mode or a shortcut to Sony’s gaming library. The controllers improve what compatible visionOS apps can do; they do not by themselves determine how much software is available.
