It brings game discovery, a library, Apple Arcade, and Game Center social features into one app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Apple says the app is pre-installed on devices running iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26 or later, and it can also be downloaded from the App Store.
What is Apple Games?
Apple Games is a hub for finding games, seeing activity, and playing with friends. Rather than functioning only as another storefront, it connects discovery and downloads with game libraries, Apple Arcade, and Game Center features.
Apple’s developer documentation describes Home, Friends, Arcade, Library, Search, and individual game pages. The Home tab can surface recently played games, charts, In-App Events, recommendations, editorial selections, friend activity, and challenges. Search supports finding and downloading games as well as browsing charts and curated collections.
Which games appear in Apple Games?
On iPhone and iPad, Apple says every game available on the App Store is available in Games. On Mac, the app can also show games downloaded from other sources or services in Continue Playing and Library. That gives Mac’s library a broader scope than an App Store-only collection.

Apple describes Arcade as a subscription service with hundreds of games; its 2025 newsroom announcement specifically described a catalog of more than 200 games. Availability and features can vary by language, region, hardware, software version, and local law.
How do Game Center and social features work?
Apple Games uses Game Center for friends, achievements, leaderboards, and challenges. Friends can compare scores and achievements, and challenges let players compete with friends in score-based activities from single-player games. Game pages and In-App Events can also surface updates, live events, and timely activity from friends.

These features depend on the relevant game supporting them. Apple says developers who implement Game Center features and In-App Events can gain additional discovery surfaces in Games and the App Store; that does not mean every game will offer every social feature.
Is Apple Games replacing Game Center?
Apple describes Games as a place that uses Game Center features, not as a replacement for those underlying social and competition services. The practical change is that players can reach supported friends, achievements, leaderboards, and challenges through the Games app alongside discovery and libraries.

Do you need a controller?
No. Apple says players can connect any compatible game controller to navigate Apple Games and launch games. A controller is optional, and support for playing with one depends on the specific game, controller, operating system, and hardware. Check the game’s compatibility information rather than assuming that a controller that navigates the hub will work in every title.
