Secondary coverage attributes the result to Fanatics Collect Weekly. The original auction record was not available for confirmation, and a sales tracker marked the result “pending payment,” so the figure should be treated as a reported result rather than proof of a settled transaction.
Which Pokémon card reportedly reached $360,000?
The card was the 2003 English Aquapolis Holo Lugia, numbered 149/147 and graded PSA Gem Mint 10. Pokémon Hub identified it as a record result in an article dated October 6, 2026. Polkastarter attributed the auction to Fanatics Collect Weekly and reported that bidding closed October 4, Pacific time; the listing showed a sold date of October 5. Cardtrack also recorded a result on October 5, but labeled it pending payment. Polkastarter’s October 5 report and Cardtrack’s entry are secondary accounts; the primary Fanatics lot archive was not available to verify final settlement.
Polkastarter says the reported auction amount includes the buyer’s premium. Because the original listing could not be checked, that fee detail is attributable to its account rather than independently confirmed.
What makes it a Crystal Lugia?
Aquapolis card identity
Crystal Lugia is the nickname collectors use for the Aquapolis Secret Rare Holo Lugia. Its number, 149/147, exceeds the set’s stated 147-card numbering, making it a secret-numbered card. Aquapolis was part of the first e-Reader era, alongside Expedition and Skyridge. Pokémon Hub describes those sets as having relatively limited print runs, but provides no print-run figure; that description does not establish a numerical scarcity measure.

The Crystal Type mechanic
Aquapolis Crystal Pokémon feature a Poké-Body called Crystal Type. As described by Pokémon Hub, the Pokémon’s type can change until the end of the turn according to the type of Basic Energy attached. This gameplay feature is part of what distinguishes the Crystal cards from ordinary versions of the Pokémon.
Artwork and collector interest
Pokémon Hub credits the illustration to Naoyo Kimura and describes Lugia rising dramatically from the sea within the card’s tilted e-Reader frame. That is an aesthetic judgment, not an objective ranking, but the distinctive composition is part of the card’s collector identity. Its appeal also combines a recognizable Pokémon, a Secret Rare designation, an unusual mechanic, and an exceptionally high grade; the available reporting does not isolate how much each factor contributed to the auction result.

How does $360,000 compare with earlier PSA 10 sales?
Polkastarter reports an earlier PSA 10 result of $148,511 on August 25, 2026, and an April 2026 Goldin sale at $95,770. It characterizes the October report as more than double the August figure. Cardtrack separately lists a $132,000 auction result dated August 24. These records do not match exactly, so dates and transaction records matter when describing the previous high.
| Reported amount | Grade and card | Reported date and venue | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| $360,000 | PSA 10 Aquapolis Crystal Lugia | October 4–5, 2026; attributed to Fanatics Collect Weekly | Polkastarter reports the amount includes buyer’s premium; Cardtrack labels its October 5 record pending payment. Primary lot confirmation was unavailable. |
| $148,511 | PSA 10 Aquapolis Crystal Lugia | August 25, 2026 | Reported by Polkastarter as the earlier high. |

| $95,770 | PSA 10 Aquapolis Crystal Lugia | April 2026, Goldin | Reported by Polkastarter. |
In a Goldin lot description quoted by Polkastarter, Lugia was called “arguably the key Pokémon chase subject from Generation II.” That is promotional auction language, not an independent market finding.

Did 30th-anniversary excitement cause the record?
The timing connects the sale to Pokémon’s 30th-anniversary year: Pokémon Hub says Crystal Lugia returned in 30th Celebration and became one of that set’s valuable cards. That establishes a reprint and an anniversary context, not that anniversary enthusiasm caused the auction price. The available reporting cannot separate the impact of the reprint, broader interest in Lugia, the card’s condition, or bidding dynamics.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does the PSA 10 result apply to other copies?
No. The reported figure concerns a single card graded PSA Gem Mint 10, not an ungraded copy or a lower-graded example. Grade, authentication, sale venue, fees, and transaction conditions can materially affect comparisons. The available sale reports do not establish a current fair value for other grades or raw copies, and a record auction should not be treated as a typical Pokémon-card price.
