What happened with Love and Deepspace’s cocktail recipes?
Kotaku reported that the game’s account shared five themed drink mixes on social media. Its coverage reproduced a safety notice attributed to the account: “Safety Notice: All drinks shown are fictional and for in-game purposes only. Do not attempt to recreate or consume them in reality.” The notice was dated September 30, 2026, in Kotaku’s October coverage. Kotaku’s report
Contemporaneous coverage by PC Gamer identified Datura and flame lily among the proposed garnishes. PC Gamer’s report The original social posts were not independently available in the sources reviewed, so those plant identifications are attributable to reporting rather than direct verification of the posts.
Why the plant names matter
Flame lily is a poisonous plant
North Carolina State Extension identifies “flame lily” as a common name for Gloriosa superba. Its Gardener Plant Toolbox says all parts of the plant are toxic to humans if ingested, especially the tubers, and describes it as highly toxic and potentially fatal if eaten. The listed toxic principles include colchicine and other alkaloids. North Carolina State Extension’s plant profile

What the coverage does—and does not—establish
Pocket Gamer called the episode a “PR stumble,” an editorial characterization of the social-media post and subsequent correction. Its discussion of fan sentiment and overseas spending is commentary, not audited evidence of a business impact. Pocket Gamer’s October 6 coverage
The available reporting establishes the reported drink concepts, the concern over real-plant garnishes, and the account’s warning not to recreate or consume them. It does not establish an exposure, an injury count, a sales effect, or representative audience reaction. The described drink formats should not be treated as proof that the recipes were common cocktails.
