ARC Raiders Close Scrutiny Explained: Find Assessors and Secure ARC Loot

Close Scrutiny is ARC Raiders’ first ARC Operation. It replaces some ordinary map value with a focused fight around ARC Assessors: large ARC structures marked by red beams, defended by flying enemies and containing three breachable loot containers. The condition appears on Dam Battlegrounds, Buried City, Spaceport and The Blue Gate, but not Stella Montis. Locked doors are inactive, normal loot value is reduced, and ARC loot is increased.

What Close Scrutiny means

Close Scrutiny is a temporary map condition introduced with the Flashpoint update. Unlike a condition that mainly changes scenery or traversal, it creates a combat objective: locate an ARC Assessor, defeat or evade its defenders, open its containers before they retract, and extract with the resulting loot.

It is also the first example of an ARC Operation, a category of major map conditions built around special ARC encounters. The condition is therefore not simply a bonus-loot modifier. It changes what is worth pursuing during a deployment and shifts the run toward a short, high-pressure objective.

Its three active effects

Effect What it means during a run
Decreased overall loot value Ordinary containers and general loot are less attractive than on a standard deployment.
Increased ARC loot ARC-related materials and Assessor-linked rewards make the special encounter more valuable.
No active locked doors Locked-door opportunities are disabled while Close Scrutiny is active.

The practical exchange is straightforward: you give up some normal container value and locked-door access for a better chance to pursue ARC-focused rewards. If your goal is general loot, the condition may feel worse than a normal map. If you need ARC components, blueprints or Assessor-specific items, its value is concentrated in the operation itself.

Which maps can have Close Scrutiny?

The map roster reported by current guides is limited to four locations:

Map Close Scrutiny status Planning implication
Dam Battlegrounds Appears Check the deployment condition before committing to a normal-loot run.
Buried City Appears Use the Assessor marker and red-beam signal to identify the objective.
Spaceport Appears Expect a focused aerial fight around the Assessor rather than a passive loot bonus.
The Blue Gate Appears Plan an extraction route before opening the containers.
Stella Montis Does not appear in the reported roster Do not assume every map can roll the condition.

This is the roster documented by the cited guides, not a permanent promise about every future rotation. ARC Raiders is a live-service game, so the available maps, condition timing and encounter behavior can change. The deployment screen is the authoritative check for your current match.

How an ARC Assessor encounter works

Find the signal

An Assessor is a large ARC probe or structure. It is marked on the compass, and three red beams extending into the sky provide a visible landmark. Once the condition is active, those signals are more useful than wandering from container to container because they point toward the encounter that carries the condition’s special value.

Breach three containers

Each Assessor has three breachable containers. The opportunity is time-sensitive: if you do not open them quickly, the containers can retract and the loot window is lost. Treat the encounter as a timed breach rather than a location you can safely clear at your convenience.

Expect aerial defenders

The Assessor is protected by flying ARC enemies. Reported threats include Wasps, Hornets, Rocketeers and the Close Scrutiny-associated Vaporizer. Their presence creates a combat pocket around the containers, so the objective is not just locating the structure; it is creating enough space to breach it before the defenders or the retraction timer ends.

Recommended deployment sequence

Use the following order to avoid spending a reduced-loot run on the wrong objective:

  1. Check the deployment condition. Confirm that the map is showing Close Scrutiny before you launch. If it is not active, an Assessor-focused route is not the reason for the deployment.
  2. Choose your objective. Decide whether ARC materials, blueprints or Assessor rewards justify giving up reduced ordinary-loot value and inactive locked doors.
  3. Move toward the compass marker. Use the Assessor marker to establish direction, then look for the three red beams to confirm that you are approaching the correct structure.
  4. Read the airspace before breaching. Identify Wasps, Hornets, Rocketeers and the Vaporizer. Starting the breach while unaware of the aerial defenders can leave you exposed at the most time-sensitive part of the encounter.
  5. Open the containers quickly. The Assessor has three breachable containers, and they can retract if you delay. Prioritize completing the breach over searching nearby ordinary containers.
  6. Take only what supports the run. Secure the Assessor rewards and valuable ARC materials, then avoid turning the encounter into an extended fight for low-value loot.
  7. Extract deliberately. The objective is to leave with the rewards, not merely to reach the Assessor. Keep an exit route in mind before the breach begins, especially if the defenders have drawn other players or ARC units into the area.

What can you get from Close Scrutiny?

The condition’s rewards are centered on ARC progression rather than a guaranteed, published drop table. Cited examples include blueprints for the Dolabra energy shotgun and Canto SMG, an Epic Assessor Matrix, and other high-tier ARC components.

PC Gamer’s coverage also identifies ARC materials that can support projects and crafting. The reported examples are:

  • Arc Alloy
  • Arc Performance Steel
  • Advanced Arc Powercells
  • Arc Coolant
  • Arc Thermo Lining
  • Arc Synthetic Resin
  • Surveyor Vaults
  • Vaporizer Regulators

These are in-game rewards and materials, not physical products. The examples should not be read as a guarantee that every Assessor contains every listed item. No authoritative percentage for a particular blueprint, matrix or component was established, and a complete live loot table was not published with the cited coverage.

Is Close Scrutiny worth running?

That depends on what you are trying to accomplish in the deployment. The condition deliberately creates a tradeoff rather than a universal upgrade.

Your priority How Close Scrutiny fits Reason
ARC crafting materials Strong fit ARC loot is increased and the Assessor encounter concentrates relevant components.
Specific blueprints or Assessor-linked rewards Strong fit, with drop uncertainty The condition is the route associated with the special encounter, but no guaranteed percentage is established.
Maximum ordinary container value Weak fit Overall normal-loot value is decreased while the condition is active.
Locked-door loot Not available during the condition Locked doors are inactive.
Low-conflict scavenging Weak fit The Assessor creates a concentrated fight involving aerial ARC enemies and a timed breach.

In other words, do not judge Close Scrutiny by the value of an ordinary room. Judge it by whether you want the ARC-focused objective badly enough to accept fewer normal rewards and a more dangerous encounter.

Managing the encounter’s combat pressure

Prioritize the enemies that can interrupt the breach

Wasps and Hornets add aerial pressure while Rocketeers and the Vaporizer can make the area harder to hold. You do not need to eliminate every threat before interacting with the containers, but you do need enough control to keep the breach moving. A player who focuses only on the structure can lose the opening to a defender; a player who chases every enemy can allow the containers to retract.

Keep the fight contained

The Assessor is a natural gathering point for players and ARC units. Avoid dragging the encounter farther from the containers than necessary. If defenders move away or lose a target, you may be able to return to the breach instead of extending the fight indefinitely.

Think about extraction before interaction

Because the containers can retract, the breach demands immediate attention; because the defenders can consume time and resources, extraction planning should happen before you start. Identify a direction of retreat, leave enough supplies for the trip out, and do not treat nearby low-value loot as a reason to remain after the special rewards are secured.

What changed in update 1.23.0?

A PC Gamer report on update 1.23.0 describes several changes affecting Assessor encounters. Enemies summoned by an Assessor can leave and despawn after idling without a target, which helps prevent a fight from remaining permanently populated when no one is engaging it. The update also adjusted Rocketeer and Vaporizer movement and fixed issues affecting Assessor ping and location behavior.

How Close Scrutiny differs from a generic map condition

Close Scrutiny is best understood through five comparison questions. The available material establishes the answers for Close Scrutiny, but does not provide a complete side-by-side statistic set for every other condition.

Comparison axis Close Scrutiny Other conditions
Loot emphasis Less overall ordinary-loot value; more ARC loot Not stated in the cited material
Primary gameplay pressure A combat objective with a timed breach Not stated in the cited material
Unique rewards Assessor-linked rewards, including cited blueprint and component examples Not stated in the cited material
Enemy pressure Wasps, Hornets, Rocketeers and Vaporizer reported around the encounter Not stated in the cited material
Locked doors Inactive Not stated in the cited material

That distinction matters when choosing a route. Close Scrutiny is not described as the best condition for every purpose; it is the condition for players who want to convert a riskier, more focused encounter into ARC-oriented rewards.

Common misunderstandings

“Is Close Scrutiny just a marker for better containers?”

No. The marker leads to an Assessor encounter with defenders and three containers that can retract. The combat and time pressure are part of the condition.

“Can I still use locked doors?”

Not while Close Scrutiny is active. “No active locked doors” is one of the condition’s listed effects.

“Does every Assessor guarantee a particular blueprint?”

No guarantee or published drop percentage is established. Dolabra and Canto blueprints are reported examples, not a promise that one will appear in every encounter.

“Does the condition appear on Stella Montis?”

The reported roster excludes Stella Montis and lists Dam Battlegrounds, Buried City, Spaceport and The Blue Gate. Check the current deployment screen because live-service rotations can change.

What is still unknown

There is no authoritative published figure in the cited material for Close Scrutiny’s spawn rate, rotation frequency, exact container contents or guaranteed drop percentages. The complete loot table and future map rotation should therefore be checked against current in-game information rather than assumed from an older guide.

The reliable decision rule is simpler than those missing statistics: run Close Scrutiny when you value ARC-focused rewards enough to accept reduced ordinary loot, inactive locked doors and a timed fight around a marked Assessor.
