It is an Epic, single-use key: opening the door consumes it, and the room is not permanently unlocked for later raids.
You can obtain the key through scavenging—particularly drawers and cabinets—or, according to the current acquisition guide, as a reward from Shani’s “The Trifecta” quest. Bring it into a Dam Battlegrounds raid, reach the tower’s upper floor, and use it on the locked door at the end of the route.

What the Dam Control Tower Key opens
The key opens one locked door on the top floor of the Control Tower on the Dam Battlegrounds map. It does not open every locked room in the tower or every special door in the Dam area. Current item data lists the key as Epic, with a stack size of one and a sell value of 100 Credits.
The room can contain randomized loot, including possible Weapon Case, Ammo Case, and Medical Bag spawns. A current guide also reports red lockers, a grenade case, loose weapon and ammunition spawns, Electrical Components, other technology parts, and breachable electronics containers. These are possible contents, not a fixed or guaranteed loot table.

How to get the key
Complete “The Trifecta”
The most direct reported acquisition is Shani’s “The Trifecta” quest, which awards one Dam Control Tower Key. This is more reliable than searching for a guaranteed map pickup.
Scavenge drawers and cabinets
The key can also appear as random scavenged loot, especially in desk drawers and cabinets. The second floor of the Research & Administration building is identified as a prominent source, with Ruby Residence and Pale Apartments also reported as part of the same apparent drop pool. There is no verified fixed pickup location, so repeated searches are not guaranteed to produce it.
Where to use the key
- Take the Dam Control Tower Key into a raid on Dam Battlegrounds.
- Reach the Control Tower. You can approach from the main entrance, the Research & Administration side, the northern or northeastern sewer entrance, or the ground-level southern door near the Red Lakes Balcony extraction point.
- From the tower’s main entrance, move around the side of the building and enter through the side door.
- Breach the door directly ahead to reach the lift shaft.
- Check the shaft for a machine-gun turret before climbing.
- Use the grapple or zipline route to ascend. Follow the corridor at the upper level and take the locked door on the right.
- Interact with that door while carrying the key. The exact interaction prompt and button vary by platform and control scheme; current sources do not verify a universal label or key binding.
The route involves breachable doors and a vertical traversal section. Breaching is loud and can alert nearby Raiders, while the exposed climb can leave you vulnerable to ARC units and other players. Fireballs and Pops may also appear on higher levels.

It does not open the Power Generation Complex room
The locked room in the Power Generation Complex uses a Power Rod, not the Dam Control Tower Key. See PC Gamer’s Dam Battlegrounds loot guide for that separate location.

It does not open the Controlled Access Zone
The Controlled Access Zone is a separate Dam location added with the Shrouded Sky update. Its entrance uses a fuel-cell-and-button puzzle rather than the Control Tower key. The relevant mechanics are covered in PC Gamer’s Controlled Access Zone guide.
It does not open every Control Tower room
The key is for the single top-floor door described above. It is not the Staff Room Key, and it does not open the Staff Room, Surveillance Room, Testing Annex, Power Generation Complex room, or Controlled Access Zone.

Using the key safely
- Plan your extraction before entering: the tower is a valuable and contested loot target.
- Expect attention: breaching and the climb can reveal your position to ARC units and other Raiders.
- Check the shaft: a turret may cover the ascent.
- Do not assume the door is untouched: another player may have reached the room already.
- Remember the one-use limit: the key is consumed when the door is opened, even though the area may be revisited in future raids.
Some player reports describe roof, ledge, movement, or other unintended ways of entering locked-looking rooms. These methods are not verified intended mechanics, may be inconsistent or patched, and are not a dependable substitute for the key.
Quick answer
Find the Dam Control Tower Key through scavenging or Shani’s “The Trifecta” quest, carry it into Dam Battlegrounds, climb through the Control Tower’s side route and lift shaft, then use it on the locked door on the top floor. It opens only that door and is consumed after use.
