ARC Raiders Skill Tree Reset: How Expeditions Work and When the Next One Returns

Expedition resets your Skill Tree and key progression, but some rewards persist. Here’s what changed, what the 15-point cap means and what is known about the early-2027 return.

Yes—leaving on an Expedition resets your Skill Tree and other personal progression, but Expedition is optional. Some rewards, including bonus Skill Points, extra stash capacity and cosmetics, persist. The fifth Expedition ended on September 29, 2026; Embark has said Expeditions will return in early 2027 after a pause, but has not published the exact date or the next round’s final rules. Quest resets are now a separate choice, and the larger Skill Tree improvements announced for October were not yet live as of October 4, 2026.

Does an Expedition reset your Skill Tree?

Yes. When you depart on an Expedition, your Skill Tree resets along with your level, stash, Workshop, crafting abilities and Blueprints. The Expedition Project is voluntary: Embark introduced it as an alternative to mandatory global wipes, so you can keep playing without departing and giving up that personal progression. Embark’s original Expedition Project explanation describes the reset and the rewards that can persist.

What carries over after an ARC Raiders Expedition?

Embark distinguishes between progression that resets and named rewards that persist. By the fifth Expedition, the developer stated a maximum of 15 bonus Expedition Skill Points and 60 extra stash spaces. Cosmetics are also listed as permanent rewards. These are carry-over rewards; they do not mean your Skill Tree, level or stash contents survive departure.

Quest progress is now its own decision. Update 1.45.0 says quests no longer reset by default when starting an Expedition, and players can choose whether to reset them. That option applies to quests; it does not cancel the Skill Tree reset or establish that every other resettable system can be kept. The same September update also said partially completed Caravans would be replaced with Ermal Vouchers when Caravans reset. Read the Update 1.45.0 notes for those changes.

How many Expedition Skill Points can you get?

The published cap for bonus Expedition Skill Points is 15, according to Embark’s fifth Expedition announcement. That is the current stated maximum, not a guaranteed reward for a single departure. The way players qualified for challenge rewards changed from round to round, so older thresholds should not be treated as requirements for the planned 2027 return.

Expedition Published challenge or reward rule What the figure means
Initial system Up to five Skill Points tied to departing stash and Coins value Original design; not a future-round requirement.
Second, 2026 Three million Coins of stash value for five Skill Points That round’s published target; catch-up was available for missed points.
Third, 2026 5,000, 10,000, 30,000, 50,000 and 100,000 damage for one through five challenge Skill Points Those were the third Expedition’s thresholds, not a standing rule.
Fourth Fourth-time participants received Blueprints and Raider Tokens instead of Skill Points for the challenge Challenge Blueprints were temporary; Raider Tokens were permanent.
Fifth, September 8–29, 2026 15 total maximum bonus Expedition Skill Points; 60 extra stash spaces Caps stated by Embark for the fifth Expedition.

The second Expedition’s stash target and the third’s damage targets are historical examples, not a reliable way to predict a future challenge. Embark’s third Expedition announcement lists the damage thresholds; its second Expedition announcement gives that round’s Coins target and catch-up details. The fourth-round reward change is described in Embark’s fourth Expedition article.

Why is the reset optional?

Embark’s stated design goal was to give highly engaged players a way to start fresh without forcing players with less time to lose progress. The developer also said reset rewards should not create a power or combat advantage over players who do not reset. That is the rationale Embark gave for the system, rather than a guarantee about how every player will experience its balance. The design explanation attributes this position to design director Virgil.

When is the next ARC Raiders Expedition?

The fifth Expedition window ran from September 8 through September 29, 2026, and is closed. Embark said it was pausing Expeditions until early 2027 to make larger improvements, including work on tight participation windows, rewards and accessibility for new players. It has not given an exact return date or published the next Expedition’s detailed rules in the announcement available as of October 4, 2026. Consecutive buffs players had already earned were said to persist during the pause. See Embark’s fifth Expedition announcement.

Is the improved Skill Tree live yet?

Not according to the information available on October 4, 2026. Embark’s May development update said the October Frozen Trail update was planned to add progression goals for players who had reached the Skill Point ceiling and improve the Skill Tree. That was an announced plan, not confirmation that the redesigned tree was already live on October 4. Embark’s May development update outlines the plan.

A September 22 patch made narrower changes: Skill Point assignment became hold-to-assign by default, and selected Skill Tree nodes received visual tweaks. Those interface adjustments are distinct from the larger improvement Embark announced for Frozen Trail. The patch notes are included in Update 1.45.0.
