Neowin reported the claim conditionally, but the available evidence does not establish that the method worked, how widely it was used, or whether Embark blocked it. In the discussion, some users objected to publicizing the alleged crack while others questioned the claim itself.
What was alleged—and what is actually verified?
On January 13, 2026, a Reddit post titled “For Embark’s Attention – Arc Raiders has been cracked” claimed that a cracked copy could access online play. The post prompted debate about publicity, game integrity, piracy, and whether the claim was credible. The Reddit thread is user-generated discussion, not independent technical verification.
A Neowin search-result summary that day described the game as “seemingly cracked” and said online play was “possible even without buying game.” It added that Embark might block an exploit in a future update if the claim were legitimate. The report should be read as conditional: the article page was not available for direct review, and the summary does not confirm the allegation. Neowin’s report
Steam describes ARC Raiders as an online multiplayer extraction adventure with online PvP, online co-op, and cross-platform multiplayer. It lists Embark Studios as developer and publisher and gives the release date as October 30, 2025. Those details explain why unauthorized access to online play would matter, but they do not validate the Reddit claim. Steam listing

The thread does not establish how the alleged method might have bypassed an ownership check, whether it worked for multiple users, or whether it continued to work after updates. A commenter claimed the issue had been fixed, but the discussion provides no official confirmation of that claim.
Why were some commenters unhappy about the alleged crack?
The thread shows disagreement, not a unified response from pirates or players. Some users argued that the poster should have contacted Embark privately rather than drawing attention to a potentially usable method. One reply said: “Dude could have just emailed Embark support, but instead told the entire community that you can pirate it lmfao.”

Others pushed back on the idea that keeping the information quiet would help. One commenter asserted that the crack was already easy to find on a major piracy forum; that is an individual claim about its reach, not verified evidence. The exchange captures the tension: publicizing a vulnerability might alert a developer, but could also make more people curious about it.
Some commenters speculated that unauthorized access could enable cheating, gold farming, or unfair play. The thread does not show that cracked copies caused any of those problems. Other users questioned whether the method could work at all, challenged its technical plausibility, or joked about the term “pirates.”

So the headline’s reaction is best understood narrowly: some participants who defended or identified with piracy still disliked publicity they thought could damage the game, invite scrutiny, or encourage wider use. A single Reddit discussion cannot establish what pirates generally think.
What Embark’s later anti-cheat update does—and does not—say
On September 30, 2026, Executive Producer Aleksander Grøndal described Embark’s broader fair-play measures, including Denuvo kernel-level protection, Anybrain detections, and in-house models. He said enforcement includes permanent bans for known cheat programs, as well as work to limit repeat offenders through measures such as license restrictions and hardware bans. The post also describes behavioral evidence and a human appeals process. Embark’s anti-cheat update

- Explore the Island: Solve the mystery of The ARK as you explore this massive island, discovering Explorer's Notebooks (filled with clues!) throughout
Grøndal wrote: “Cheating undermines what makes ARC Raiders challenging and fun, and disrupts the experience for everyone playing fairly.” The update concerns anti-cheat and fair play generally; it does not mention or confirm the January allegation, explain a bypass, or say that the alleged crack was detected or blocked.
Embark reported “85% fewer players engaging in this behavior” five days after matchmaking separation began for known queue-teaming groups. It also said “spoiled raids” dropped to around “1 in 50 to 1 in 300” after that intervention, without a meaningful impact to queue times. Both figures concern queue-teaming measures—not piracy or the alleged crack—and should not be read as crack-related statistics.

What the shared-license policy adds
Embark’s Help Center article, last updated October 1, 2026, says shared ARC Raiders licenses on Steam and Xbox are linked for enforcement. Restrictions may apply across the family group and shared platform license. This describes how Embark handles enforcement in shared-license situations; it does not explain how the alleged January method worked or confirm that it was stopped. Embark’s shared-license guidance
Quick Recap
What players can conclude from the available evidence
- The online-play claim originated in a January 2026 Reddit post and received conditional coverage from Neowin; the available material does not independently verify it.
- Reddit replies show mixed reactions and uncertainty, not a representative view of pirates or players.
- Embark’s later anti-cheat and shared-license information is useful context about broader enforcement, but neither source confirms this specific allegation or its resolution.
- No reliable figure is established for how many people used the alleged crack, how many matches involved it, or any financial impact.
