Choose a full-size arcade cabinet if you have a permanent floor spot and want a taller machine with roomier controls. Choose a mini only after checking its format: some minis are still floor-standing uprights, while countertop machines are designed for a sturdy desk or counter. Compare exact dimensions, games, screen and controls—not just the word “mini.”
First, decide where it will go
Measure the machine’s footprint and height, then check the route into the room: doorways, stairs, turns and the final space around the controls. A listed footprint does not account for extra clearance needed to stand or play comfortably.

“Mini” is not a single size category. AtGames lists the full-size Legends Ultimate at 29.53 × 21.65 × 66.44 inches. Its Legends Ultimate Mini HD is narrower, at 19.4 × 19.3 × 60.9 inches, but is still a floor-standing cabinet more than five feet tall. By contrast, Arcade1Up’s Countercade and Counter Series are countertop product families, with catalog examples listing 7-inch and 8-inch screens respectively.

A full-size cabinet makes sense when you can give it a lasting floor location. Its height and broader control surface create a more prominent arcade setup, but make measuring access and placement especially important.

Compact upright
A compact upright can reduce width and depth without eliminating the need for floor space. Check height as carefully as footprint: the cited Mini HD is listed at 60.9 inches tall.
Countertop machine
A countertop unit suits a desk, counter or shelf when you want a smaller built-in screen and control panel. Check the surface’s depth and stability; tabletop does not mean handheld or pocket-sized.
Compare the actual machines
These examples show why category labels alone do not settle the choice. Specifications, game libraries, and availability are model-specific; confirm the current listing and the exact titles included before buying.

Match the controls and games to how you play
Start with the games you actually want, then check whether the panel suits them. A large advertised game count does not guarantee a particular title or the controls it needs. A standard joystick setup differs from games designed around a trackball, spinner, steering control or light gun.

- For a screen-sensitive choice, compare size and orientation on the exact model. The Mini HD has a rotatable display; do not assume every mini offers that feature.
Account for accessories and ongoing features
Include required or desired accessories in the space and budget calculation. Arcade1Up says the Ms. Pac-Man Classic SE’s adjustable riser is sold separately; a riser may also change the machine’s final height. Verify compatibility before buying an add-on.
Connectivity does not by itself establish that a particular online feature or expanded library will remain available or be included without conditions. Online leaderboards, subscriptions, streaming and library expansion depend on the model and service support, so check the current manufacturer information for the feature you expect to use.
Which format fits your home?
- Choose a full-size upright if you have a permanent game-room spot, want a broader control setup and have measured both floor space and the route into the room.
- Choose a compact upright if floor area is tighter but you still want a standing cabinet. Confirm the height, not just the narrower footprint.
- Choose a countertop mini if your intended location is a sturdy shared surface and the smaller screen and control panel fit the games and sessions you have in mind.
