If arccon.dll is missing, Windows is usually trying to start an older ArcSoft application or background component. Check these details before changing anything:

  • Which program triggers the error: an ArcSoft application, camera utility, printer software, webcam tool, scanner package, or game launcher.
  • When it appears: at Windows startup, while opening an application, or when connecting hardware.
  • The exact wording: “missing,” “not found,” “specified module could not be found,” or an entry-point error.
  • Whether ArcSoft software is still installed: check Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  • Where the file is located: a path under an ArcSoft program directory is more plausible than a copy in System32, SysWOW64, a temporary folder, or an unrelated game directory.
  • Your Windows architecture: a 32-bit ArcSoft program can require a 32-bit DLL even on 64-bit Windows.

Do not begin by copying a downloaded DLL into a Windows system folder. The safest repair is to repair or reinstall the ArcSoft program that owns the file. If you no longer use that program, removing its leftover components is usually the better solution.

What arccon.dll is

arccon.dll, also written as ArcCon.dll, is identified as ArcSoft Connect, a third-party application library published by ArcSoft, Inc. It is associated with ArcSoft’s connection, notification, and update infrastructure, including the ArcSoft Connection Service and ACDaemon.exe.

It is not a Windows system file, Microsoft runtime, DirectX component, or .NET component. Windows should not normally need it in:

#1 Best Overall
  • C:WindowsSystem32
  • C:WindowsSysWOW64

A legitimate copy may instead be located in a directory resembling:

C:Program FilesCommon FilesArcSoft

On 64-bit Windows, a 32-bit ArcSoft installation may be under:

C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesArcSoft

The reported historical builds are 32-bit versions such as 1.1.0.48, approximately 0.39 MB, and 1.1.0.8, approximately 0.21 MB. These are cataloged historical records, not an official ArcSoft compatibility list. Do not use the version or file size alone to decide whether a replacement is safe.

Which program installed ArcSoft Connect

ArcSoft Connect was commonly bundled with older imaging and multimedia software. Possible parent applications include:

  • ArcSoft MediaImpression
  • ArcSoft Print Creations
  • ArcSoft camera and webcam utilities
  • Scanner and printer software
  • Software supplied with Kodak and other imaging hardware
  • Other older ArcSoft products
  • An application or game that bundled an ArcSoft imaging or capture component

The filename alone cannot identify the exact parent application. Find the program that launches the error.

Check installed applications

  1. Press Windows + I.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Select Installed apps.
  4. Search for ArcSoft.
  5. Expand the relevant entry’s menu.
  6. Choose Modify, Repair, or Uninstall, depending on what is available.

On Windows 10, use:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Select Apps & features.
  4. Search for ArcSoft software.

You can also open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and inspect the installed-program list.

If the error appears when you use a camera, printer, scanner, or webcam, check the software that came with that device. The device manufacturer’s original recovery media or support package is safer than a standalone DLL download.

Fix 1: Repair the ArcSoft application

Use this first when the application is still needed and the error appears while opening it.

  1. Close the affected program.
  2. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  3. Find the ArcSoft product associated with the error.
  4. Open its menu and select Advanced options, if available.
  5. Select Repair.
  6. Start the ArcSoft application again.

If there is no Repair option:

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Select Programs > Programs and Features.
  3. Select the ArcSoft product.
  4. Choose Change, Modify, or Repair.
  5. Follow the installer prompts.
  6. Restart Windows.
  7. Test the application again.

Run the application’s installer as administrator if the repair program fails to write files:

  1. Right-click the original installer.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Open the Compatibility tab.
  4. Select Run this program as an administrator, or right-click the installer and choose Run as administrator.
  5. Complete the repair.

How to tell whether repair worked

The error should no longer appear when you open the ArcSoft program or trigger the related hardware. Confirm that the repaired application opens normally and that its main features work.

If Windows still reports that arccon.dll is missing, the repair source may be incomplete, the installation may contain mixed versions, or another ArcSoft component may be requesting a different copy.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 2: Reinstall the complete ArcSoft product

Reinstalling the parent application is more reliable than replacing only arccon.dll. It restores the DLL alongside the executable files, configuration, and dependencies expected by that release.

  1. Save any projects or settings created by the ArcSoft application.
  2. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  3. Uninstall the affected ArcSoft product.
  4. If ArcSoft Connect appears as a separate entry and you are removing the entire ArcSoft suite, uninstall it too.
  5. Restart Windows.
  6. Install the product again from its original installer, application disc, camera software, or device manufacturer recovery package.
  7. Restart Windows once more.
  8. Open the application and test the action that previously failed.

If the program came with a camera, printer, scanner, or webcam, install the software package intended for that exact device. Do not combine an old application with a DLL copied from another ArcSoft product.

If two ArcSoft versions are installed

A second ArcSoft installation can leave behind a startup service or shared file from another release. In Installed apps and Programs and Features, look for multiple ArcSoft products.

Remove only software you recognize and no longer need. If you still use more than one ArcSoft application, reinstall the affected suite from a coherent original package rather than deleting shared files manually.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 3: Remove obsolete ArcSoft Connect

If you no longer use the ArcSoft application, removing the obsolete component is safer than trying to keep a broken startup entry alive.

  1. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  2. Search for ArcSoft.
  3. Uninstall unused ArcSoft applications.
  4. Uninstall ArcSoft Connect if it remains as a separate entry.
  5. Restart Windows.
  6. Check whether the startup error has disappeared.

If ArcSoft Connect is not listed separately, identify the remaining parent application before removing anything else. Do not delete arbitrary registry entries or DLLs from system folders.

Check startup entries

If the error appears at every boot:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. Select Startup apps.
  3. Look for an ArcSoft or ACDaemon entry.
  4. Right-click it and choose Disable if the related software is obsolete.
  5. Restart Windows.

Disabling startup prevents the component from launching, but uninstalling the associated application is the cleaner long-term fix. If you still need the ArcSoft software, repair or reinstall it instead.

Check scheduled tasks

Some older applications use a scheduled task for notifications or updates.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Press the Windows key and search for Task Scheduler.
  2. Open it as administrator.
  3. Select Task Scheduler Library.
  4. Look for a task clearly identified with ArcSoft.
  5. Inspect its Actions tab to confirm the executable path.
  6. Disable or delete the task only if the ArcSoft software is no longer used.

Do not remove a task merely because it contains a DLL name. Confirm the publisher, path, and associated program first.

Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine

Security software can quarantine an old legitimate file, but a suspicious copy should not automatically be restored.

  1. Open Windows Security.
  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Select Protection history.
  4. Look for a detection involving ArcCon.dll, arccon.dll, ACDaemon.exe, or the ArcSoft installation directory.
  5. Read the detection name, file path, and action taken.
  6. If the file belongs to a trusted ArcSoft installation, use the security product’s restore option only after verifying the installation and signature.
  7. If the path is a temporary folder, user profile folder, system folder, or unrelated application directory, leave the file quarantined.
  8. Run a full scan.

Reinstalling the complete ArcSoft application from legitimate original media is safer than restoring a questionable DLL. If the detection returns immediately after reinstalling, stop restoring the file and investigate the security alert.

Fix 5: Resolve a “specified module could not be found” message

This wording can mean that arccon.dll exists but one of its dependencies is missing. Windows may report:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • “There was a problem starting arccon.dll.”
  • “Error loading arccon.dll.”
  • “The specified module could not be found.”

First, confirm the file’s location:

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Search for arccon.dll.
  3. Right-click a result and select Open file location.
  4. Check whether it is inside an ArcSoft application directory.
  5. Right-click the file, select Properties, and inspect the Details and Digital Signatures tabs if present.

Do not download individual dependency files from random DLL repositories. Repair or reinstall the complete parent application so its required files are installed together.

If the application separately names files such as MSVCP140.dll, VCRUNTIME140.dll, or MSVCR*.dll, that is a different runtime issue. Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads explain the x86 and x64 packages. Install the architecture required by the application. A 32-bit ArcSoft program generally needs the x86 runtime, even when Windows itself is 64-bit.

Installing Visual C++ will not provide arccon.dll.

Fix 6: Handle an entry-point error

An error such as:

The procedure entry point ARCCON_GetConnectVersion could not be located in the dynamic link library ArcCon.dll.

is not the same as a missing-file error. It usually means that ArcSoft components from different releases are being mixed. One executable expects functions that the loaded DLL does not contain.

Use this repair sequence:

  1. Note the executable named in the error.
  2. Open Installed apps and Programs and Features.
  3. Remove the incomplete or conflicting ArcSoft product.
  4. Restart Windows.
  5. Check for a remaining ArcSoft installation directory.
  6. Reinstall one complete version from the original application or device package.
  7. Restart Windows.
  8. Test the application again.

Do not fix an entry-point mismatch with regsvr32, a Microsoft runtime package, or a DLL copied from another computer.

Fix 7: Repair Windows components only when Windows corruption is also suspected

Because arccon.dll is a third-party application file, System File Checker normally will not restore it. Use Windows repair commands when the same computer also has failures involving protected Windows files, system features, or general component corruption.

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for Command Prompt.
  3. Right-click it and choose Run as administrator.
  4. Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
  1. Wait for it to finish.
  2. Then run:
sfc /scannow
  1. Restart Windows.
  2. Test the affected application.

Microsoft documents this sequence in Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files.

These commands repair the Windows component store and protected system files. They do not normally reinstall ArcSoft Connect. If the commands report that Windows files were repaired but the ArcSoft error remains, return to the parent-application repair or reinstall steps.

When repeatedly hunting through Windows repair commands becomes difficult, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system problems and show what it found; the free scan identifies issues, while repair is handled by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the ArcSoft program remains the definitive fix when that program owns the missing file.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 8: Check hardware software and drivers

If the error began after connecting a camera, printer, scanner, or webcam, the hardware package may be launching ArcSoft software.

Check Device Manager

  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand categories such as Cameras, Imaging devices, Printers, Sound, video and game controllers, or Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  4. Look for a warning icon.
  5. Right-click the relevant device and choose Properties.
  6. Read the General tab for a status message.
  7. Open the Driver tab to view the installed driver.
  8. Use Update Driver only with a driver intended for the exact device and Windows version.
  9. Restart Windows after a successful installation.

Device Manager repairs the hardware driver, not usually arccon.dll. If the device works but an ArcSoft utility fails, repair or reinstall the utility itself.

When manually checking hardware models and comparing driver packages becomes tedious, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify driver issues; its free scan shows what it found, while installing drivers is handled by the full version. It is optional, and the exact camera, printer, scanner, or webcam package remains the correct source for that device.

Windows Features

Do not enable random Windows Features to replace arccon.dll. Features such as .NET Framework or legacy components may be relevant only if the ArcSoft installer explicitly requires them.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If an installer specifically asks for a Windows feature:

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for Turn Windows features on or off.
  3. Open the result.
  4. Enable only the feature named by the installer.
  5. Select OK.
  6. Restart Windows if prompted.
  7. Run the ArcSoft installer again.

A Windows feature will not supply ArcSoft Connect unless the application’s documentation specifically says it is required.

Why you should not use regsvr32

regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide the COM registration entry point DllRegisterServer, such as certain ActiveX and COM server components. A normal application library may not provide that entry point.

Do not routinely run:

regsvr32 ArcCon.dll

It may produce an error such as “DllRegisterServer was not found,” and it does not repair an incomplete ArcSoft installation. There is no evidence that ArcCon.dll requires manual registration.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use regsvr32 only when the software vendor’s instructions explicitly identify a DLL as a COM or ActiveX component and provide the correct path and command.

Avoid standalone DLL download sites

Downloading arccon.dll by itself is risky because the file may be:

  • Modified or bundled with malware
  • The wrong ArcSoft release
  • The wrong architecture
  • Missing required companion files
  • Incompatible with the executable requesting it
  • Placed in a location that causes another version conflict

Copying it into System32, SysWOW64, a game directory, or the ArcSoft folder does not recreate the original installation. It can also turn a simple missing-file error into an entry-point mismatch.

Use the original ArcSoft installer, the software disc supplied with the hardware, or the hardware manufacturer’s legitimate recovery package. If no original installer exists and the software is obsolete, uninstall the remaining ArcSoft components instead.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When reinstalling does not solve it

If the error returns after reinstalling, check these possibilities:

  1. A second ArcSoft installation remains. Search Installed apps and inspect startup entries.
  2. A scheduled task still launches an old executable. Check Task Scheduler and its file path.
  3. Antivirus software quarantines the file again. Review Protection history and the detection path.
  4. The wrong installer was used. Use the package intended for the exact camera, printer, scanner, webcam, or application.
  5. The message is an entry-point error. Remove mixed versions and install one coherent release.
  6. The file exists but a dependency is missing. Read the complete error and reinstall the application’s prerequisites.
  7. The file is outside an ArcSoft directory. Verify its signature and scan it before allowing it to run.
  8. A game launcher is involved. Use the launcher’s Verify integrity, Verify files, or Repair function before changing Windows files.

If the error began immediately after uninstalling ArcSoft software, removing the remaining startup component is often more appropriate than restoring the DLL.

Frequently asked questions

Is arccon.dll a Windows file?

No. It is identified as ArcSoft Connect, a third-party component from ArcSoft, Inc. It should not normally be placed in a Windows system directory.

Is arccon.dll part of Visual C++?

No. Visual C++ Redistributable packages provide Microsoft runtime libraries. They do not provide arccon.dll.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I copy arccon.dll into System32?

No. Identify the parent ArcSoft application and repair its installation. A 32-bit application does not become correct merely because the DLL is copied into a system folder.

Is there a 64-bit version?

Available historical records identify 32-bit builds. Do not assume a 64-bit copy is legitimate simply because Windows is 64-bit.

Why does the error appear when Windows starts?

An ArcSoft startup service, updater, scheduled task, or ACDaemon.exe component may remain after the main application was removed. Disable and remove the associated obsolete software after confirming what launches it.

Why does Windows say the file exists but cannot load it?

A required dependency may be missing, or Windows may be loading an incompatible ArcSoft version. Reinstall the complete parent application rather than replacing one DLL.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can SFC fix arccon.dll?

Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows system files. It is useful when broader Windows corruption is present, but an ArcSoft installation repair is the direct solution for this file.

What does an entry-point error mean?

It usually indicates incompatible ArcSoft components. One program is loading a different ArcCon.dll release than the one it was built to use. Reinstall one complete, matching ArcSoft package.

What information should I collect before asking for help?

Record the exact error text, the program that triggers it, the full path of any arccon.dll found, whether ArcSoft remains installed, whether antivirus quarantined a file, and whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit. That information identifies whether the correct action is repair, reinstall, security screening, or removal.
