According to Hideki Kamiya, yes. He says Bayonetta and Devil May Cry belong to one shared universe he calls the “Kamiya-verse.” That is Kamiya’s stated view—not evidence of a fully documented, franchise-wide canon adopted by every company or creator involved.
What did Hideki Kamiya say?
Nintendo Everything reported on February 8, 2025, that Kamiya answered a fan’s question about whether Bayonetta and Devil May Cry share a universe. The report quotes him as saying: “All the games I create exist in the same single universe: the Kamiya-verse. This question specifically mentions Bayonetta and Devil May Cry, but for me, Viewtiful Joe, Okami, and The Wonderful 101 are all part of the same universe. Everything is interconnected, so please let your imaginations run wild.”

So, in Kamiya’s view, the connection extends beyond those two series: he also includes Viewtiful Joe, Ōkami, and The Wonderful 101. The report does not explain how the properties connect, or provide a shared chronology.
Does that make it official franchise canon?
The statement supports saying that Kamiya considers the games part of one universe. It does not establish that Capcom, Sega, Nintendo, or every later creator has formally adopted a common continuity. Nor does it supply rules for reconciling the series’ stories. Treat the “Kamiya-verse” as Kamiya’s broad creator-level framing, not as a mapped crossover timeline.

Does Bayonetta 3’s multiverse connect it to DMC?
Bayonetta 3 uses a multiverse framing for its own story. PlatinumGames’ official developer diary, published June 1, 2023, discusses the game’s universe and identifies Kamiya as supervising director, but it does not say that Devil May Cry is part of that multiverse. The game’s multiverse premise therefore does not independently confirm a DMC connection.
What about Bayonetta’s development history?
In a 2009 interview, Bayonetta producer Yusuke Hashimoto said the team created the game from scratch rather than using Devil May Cry or other games to determine what to make. That describes the development and design process; it neither confirms nor disproves Kamiya’s later statement about a shared universe.
