What a Brave Heart Fragment does
Brave Heart Fragments are permanent-health collectibles. The game’s tutorial explains the rule directly: “You received the blessing of a Brave’s Heart fragment! Collect 4 Brave’s Heart fragments to permanently raise Rose’s health.” A single pickup is therefore progress toward an upgrade, not a complete upgrade by itself.

Belmont’s Curse Atlas maps 24 Brave Heart Fragments in its 2026 completion data. With four fragments required for each set, that total represents six completed sets if every mapped pickup is collected. PixelForge Guides records the reward as +20 health for each completed set. Those figures come from current guide coverage rather than an item-count statement published by KONAMI, so treat the 24-fragment total as a guide-based completion target.

Why a fragment can look missable
“Not permanently missable” does not mean “impossible to overlook.” A first visit may reveal a fragment that Rose cannot safely reach yet. Common blockers described by the guides include spikes, a breakable obstruction, a traversal gate or a combat requirement. Seeing the collectible before you can claim it is a reminder to revisit, not proof that the game has permanently discarded it.

The practical danger is losing track of the room. If you leave without recording the location, a later sweep can become a search through every previously visited area. Treat every blocked pickup as an unfinished task immediately, even when you intend to return only a few minutes later.
Recommended save-and-revisit method
Use the following routine whenever you are collecting fragments during the story or cleaning up afterward.
- Save at a Mirror of Life before a long sweep. Current collectible guides identify Mirrors of Life as save points and track them as their own completion category. Saving before you begin gives the cleanup route a recent checkpoint if you die, quit or need to retrace your path.
- Mark every blocked room on the map. Place a marker as soon as you identify an unreachable Brave fragment. The fast-travel guidance specifically recommends map pins for these locations. Add a short personal note if the game allows it, such as “spikes” or “ability gate,” so you know what to check when you return.
- Continue with accessible pickups. Do not halt the entire collection run because one fragment is unavailable. Collect the rooms you can finish and leave the marked location for a later pass.
- Unlock the required ability or satisfy the requirement. The correct trigger may be a traversal upgrade, a way to break the obstruction or a combat capability. The guides establish that these are revisit situations, but they do not establish one universal ability sequence for every room.
- Return through the open map. Re-enter the marked room once the blocker is addressed. If the approach still fails, check whether the requirement was an ability, a combat condition or a route from another side rather than assuming the fragment has disappeared.
- Complete the set when convenient. The health reward arrives when the fourth matching fragment completes the set. You do not need to collect four in one trip, and an individual pickup does not grant the full +20 health increase.
- Save again after a successful pickup or completed set. This creates a fresh checkpoint for the next group of rooms and confirms that your progress has been written before you travel elsewhere.
First-pass collection or post-ending cleanup?
Both approaches are valid. Collecting what is reachable during the story reduces the amount of backtracking later, while postponing blocked rooms avoids repeatedly crossing dangerous areas before Rose has the right tools.

Can you go back after beating the game?
Current completion guides say yes. Areas reportedly remain open after the endings, and cleanup can continue on the same save after both the bad and normal endings. That makes an end-of-game fragment sweep a legitimate route rather than an emergency workaround.
Before committing to cleanup, load the save that contains your completed story progress, visit a Mirror of Life and review the map for pins. Work through the pins in groups that share a nearby route, then save after each group. If a room is still inaccessible, leave its marker in place and identify the missing requirement instead of deleting it from your list.
This is guide consensus, not an item-specific permanence guarantee published by KONAMI. The evidence supports continued access to the world and same-save cleanup; it does not promise that every conceivable state or corrupted save will behave identically.
What to do when a fragment is blocked
Spikes or another hazardous floor
Do not treat visible damage as a required trade for the pickup. Record the room and return when you have the traversal option that lets Rose cross the hazard safely. If you can reach the room but not the fragment, verify that the marker is on the exact chamber rather than on an adjacent corridor.

Breakable barrier
Mark the barrier and note its position relative to the fragment. Return after obtaining the capability that interacts with breakable objects. A barrier that remains intact is evidence that the current approach is premature, not evidence of a missed collectible state.
Traversal or ability gate
Leave the room, keep the marker and continue the main path until the relevant ability is available. Revisit from the side shown on your map; some apparent dead ends are intended to be entered from a later route.
Combat requirement
If an encounter or combat capability is the blocker, prepare before the return trip and save at a nearby Mirror of Life. The guides do not specify a single combat threshold for every fragment, so use the room’s actual obstacle as your test rather than assuming that collecting other fragments will unlock it.

How to verify your completion count
Use a room-by-room checklist rather than relying only on the health total. Four fragments produce one upgrade, so a health increase confirms a completed set but does not identify which rooms supplied it. A map list of 24 guide-marked locations lets you distinguish an unvisited room from a visited room whose pickup was blocked.

- Record the room when you first see a fragment.
- Mark whether it was collected, blocked or still unvisited.
- After returning, remove the marker only after the pickup animation and save are complete.
- Compare your checklist with the guide’s 24-location map, while remembering that the map count is guide-reported rather than an official KONAMI total.
- Check for the health increase when a fourth fragment completes a set, but do not use health alone as proof that every location is cleared.
Demo save transfer: a separate caveat
Demo progress has different conditions from ordinary in-game revisits. KONAMI’s official demo information says transfer works only when the demo and full game are played on the same platform and account, the demo save is retained and the full version is updated. If any one of those conditions is missing, the transfer may not be available.
KONAMI does not itemize whether every collectible flag transfers. In particular, the published information does not confirm that a specific Brave Heart Fragment state will always carry over. Retain the demo save, update the full game, use the same platform and account, then inspect the transferred save’s map and health status before assuming that a fragment has been credited. If the expected state is absent, continue from the full-game save rather than deleting the original demo data while you investigate.
Common questions and mistakes
Do I need a new save if I missed one?
No new save is indicated by the current completion guidance. Pin the room, unlock the relevant requirement and return on the existing save. Starting over would discard unrelated story and collectible progress without solving the underlying tracking problem.
Does seeing a fragment early make it permanently lost?
No. Early visibility is a revisit cue. The reported blockers—hazards, breakable barriers and ability gates—are reasons to leave a marker, not evidence that the item has entered an unrecoverable state.

Does saving at a Mirror of Life preserve collectible progress?
Mirrors of Life are described as save points, so they are the practical checkpoints for preserving a cleanup run. Save before and after a long sweep, especially after completing the fourth fragment in a set.
Is every Brave fragment worth +20 health?
