Walt Disney World’s terms make an exception when Disney cancels the ticket, while Disneyland’s park rules describe tickets as nonrefundable. Transferability depends on the resort and whether the ticket has been used: Walt Disney World says an entirely unused ticket can be reassigned, but a partially used ticket cannot be passed to another person. Disneyland’s rules require the same person to use the ticket on every valid day.
These rules apply to admission tickets, not automatically to vacation packages or park reservations. The terms attached to your exact ticket, seller, promotion and package year control. The policy information below was current on October 13, 2026, but Disney can change ticket conditions and operating requirements.

The apparent conflict between “nontransferable” wording on some Walt Disney World ticket listings and the unused-ticket exception in the transfer FAQ is why the specific ticket’s terms matter. Treat the FAQ and the applicable ticket conditions as a pair rather than applying one sentence to every ticket product.
Walt Disney World: when a ticket can change hands
Refunds are not a normal cancellation option
Walt Disney World’s Ticket Store Terms & Conditions state: “Tickets are nonrefundable unless cancelled by Disney.” That is a narrow exception, not a general right to cancel because your plans changed, a flight was missed or a date no longer works. If Disney cancels a ticket because of misconduct by the holder, the same terms say no refund is due.

A ticket listing may also describe the product as nonrefundable and nontransferable. Those descriptions should not be read as eliminating the transfer policy for a ticket that has never been used; instead, verify how the listing, ticket type and transfer FAQ apply together. A special promotion, date-based product or ticket bought through another seller can have additional conditions.
An entirely unused ticket may be reassigned
Walt Disney World’s Ticket Transfer Policy FAQ answers the common question about giving someone else the remaining days: “If you have not used your ticket yet, you can reassign it to someone else.” In practical terms, the ticket must still be completely unused when you make the change. The FAQ does not turn a used ticket into a transferable one.
Use Disney’s official account or ticket-management process for the reassignment rather than selling a screenshot or handing over credentials. If the ticket is linked to a profile, confirm that the intended guest’s name or account is correctly associated before arrival. A ticket transfer does not itself create or move any required park reservation.

Once a person has used a Walt Disney World ticket, later admissions belong to that person. The transfer FAQ says the remaining admissions cannot be transferred to someone else. This matters for multi-day tickets: an unused second or third day is not treated like a new, unused ticket merely because the first day has passed.

For example, if Guest A enters a park with a four-day ticket and then cannot travel, Guest B cannot use days two through four. Asking Disney to change the name after the first scan does not create a new entitlement under the published transfer rule.
Disneyland: the same-person rule is broader
Park rules reject refunds and transfers
Disneyland Resort’s Park Rules and Regulations say: “Tickets, credentials and other entitlements are non-transferable, non-exchangeable, non-refundable, revocable and void if altered.” The rules also require the same person to use the ticket on all days of its validity. That wording covers both an entirely unused ticket and one with days remaining, so Disneyland should not be treated as having Walt Disney World’s unused-ticket exception.
Changing plans, deciding not to visit, or having unused days does not create a cash refund under the published park rules. Altering a ticket or attempting to sell it can make it void. If a seller gave you different written conditions, keep those records and ask the seller or Disneyland to explain which terms govern your purchase.

A Disneyland multi-day ticket is assigned to one user for its validity period. The same-person requirement means a friend or family member cannot use the final day after you used the first day. This rule is separate from whether a reservation exists: even if another person could obtain a reservation, that person would still need a valid ticket that they are permitted to use.

Standalone admission versus vacation packages
Package cancellation terms are separate
Buying admission as part of a vacation package changes the cancellation framework. A package can have time-based cancellation deadlines, deductions or other conditions that do not apply to a standalone ticket. Therefore, “tickets are nonrefundable” does not answer every question about cancelling the entire package; read the package contract for the booking and arrival year.
Disneyland package terms for 2027
The Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney Travel Company package terms cited for arrivals from January 1 through December 31, 2027 say ticket entitlements are nontransferable and that no refund or credit is given for unused ticket portions. Those terms do not mean every package cancellation is handled identically: the package itself has separate, time-based cancellation provisions and deductions. Use the terms for your actual package year, booking channel and confirmation, not the 2027 language as a universal rule.
If a package is cancelled, ask how the cancellation affects the room, transportation, dining components and admission entitlements separately. A package-level credit or refund, if allowed by its contract, is not the same thing as a right to refund unused park days.
Park reservations are not the same as tickets
Walt Disney World reservations
When Walt Disney World requires a park reservation, the reservation is a separate record tied to a date and park. Disney’s reservation terms say a reservation is nontransferable and void if transferred or sold. Reassigning an unused admission ticket therefore does not automatically reassign its reservation. The new guest must have the correct admission and a reservation that is valid for that guest and date, where reservations are required.

Disneyland reservations
Disneyland requires valid admission and a park reservation for the same park and date whenever the reservation system applies. Its reservation terms say reservations are void if transferred or sold and have no cash value. A reservation cannot be cashed out, used by an unrelated person simply because the date is open, or detached from the admission requirements.
Before changing a guest, check both records. A ticket change without a matching reservation can leave the arriving guest unable to enter; a reservation change without valid admission has the same practical result.
What to do before requesting a refund or transfer
- Identify the resort. Confirm whether the ticket is for Walt Disney World in Florida or Disneyland in California. Their transfer language is not interchangeable.
- Identify the purchase type. Determine whether you bought standalone admission, a hotel-and-ticket package, a promotional ticket, or admission through an outside seller. Save the confirmation and the terms displayed at purchase.
- Check usage. Look for scans or entrance history. At Walt Disney World, the published exception applies only before any use; after first use, remaining admissions stay with the original guest. Disneyland requires the same person on all valid days.
- Read the exact conditions. Check the ticket number, product name, validity dates, promotion, seller and package year. A current ticket listing may use broad nonrefundable or nontransferable wording while a resort FAQ explains a limited exception.
- Review reservations separately. Confirm whether a reservation is required, which park and date it names, and whether it is attached to the intended guest. Do not assume a ticket reassignment moves it.
- Contact the correct party. Ask Disney for resort-issued tickets and the original seller for tickets bought elsewhere. Request a written answer when a package, promotion or unusual payment method is involved.
- Do not resell before confirmation. A reservation can be void if sold or transferred, and an altered or improperly transferred ticket can be unusable. Wait until the governing terms and the guest assignment are clear.
Common situations and the likely result
“I bought a Walt Disney World ticket but have not used it.”
The FAQ indicates that an unused ticket can be reassigned. Complete the change through Disney’s accepted ticket-management route, then verify any required reservation independently. This is a transfer, not a refund, so it does not return the purchase price.

The remaining days cannot be passed to another person under the transfer FAQ. Ask about other options only if the exact ticket terms provide them; do not assume an unused balance is refundable.

“I cannot use my Disneyland ticket and want a friend to take it.”
Disneyland’s park rules require the same person to use the ticket on every day and describe tickets as nontransferable and nonrefundable. The published rule does not provide the Walt Disney World unused-ticket exception.
“My Disneyland vacation package was cancelled.”
Read the package cancellation section for the booking and arrival year. For the 2027 terms covering January 1 through December 31 arrivals, unused ticket portions receive no refund or credit and ticket entitlements remain nontransferable, while the package has separate cancellation deductions and deadlines.
“I transferred a ticket but the reservation still shows the old guest.”
Treat that as an unresolved reservation problem, not proof that entry will work. Reservations are separate and nontransferable under the cited terms. Contact the resort or seller before the visit and obtain a reservation matching the valid ticket, guest and date.

- Is this product a standalone ticket or part of a package?
- Has any admission been recorded against the ticket?
- Which resort’s terms apply, and what is the exact ticket or promotion name?
- Does the ticket qualify for the Walt Disney World unused-ticket reassignment process?
- What happens to any linked park reservation, and must a new reservation be made?
- For a package, what cancellation deadline, deduction or credit rule applies to each component?
- If the ticket was purchased through a third party, is that seller authorized to change the guest or issue any refund?
Keep the response with your confirmation number. Ticket policies are contractual and product-specific, so a general statement about “Disney tickets” may not resolve a special promotion, package or reservation issue.
Bottom line for planning
Budget as though a standalone ticket cannot be refunded. If it is Walt Disney World admission that has never been used, the official FAQ provides a route to reassign it, subject to the exact ticket conditions; after use, the remaining admissions stay with the original guest. Disneyland’s published rules require one person to use the ticket throughout its validity. In both resorts, package contracts and park reservations have their own terms, so verify every component before cancelling, transferring or selling anything.
