Yes. Riot announced Hextech Chests would return in February 2025 after acknowledging that changes to League of Legends rewards had missed the mark. As of October 8, 2026, Hextech Chest + Key rewards still appear at eight milestones in the Season 3: Worlds 2026 Battle Pass. The original Honor arrangement has changed, however: Honor no longer grants Hextech content simply for playing games.
Why did Riot bring Hextech Chests back?
In a developer update published February 26, 2025, Riot said it had heard frustration about recent changes and acknowledged that some decisions had missed the mark. The authors, Meddler and Pabro, wrote: “It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff, they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding.” Riot also said it had not fully grasped how much that mattered to players. Riot’s February 2025 developer update framed the return as a response to that feedback.
Riot announced that chests would begin returning with patch 25.05. The announcement documents Riot’s reasoning and plan; it does not quantify how many players objected or show that every player supported the change.
Chests were one part of a broader rewards response. The update also addressed champion Blue Essence costs, Battle Pass rewards and future pass skin quality, and the return of Your Shop and the Blue Essence Emporium. The backlash was not solely about chests.

What was the 2025 return plan?
Riot’s announced structure offered up to ten Hextech Chests and keys per Act: eight in the free Battle Pass, replacing the free seasonal skin and a Mystery Epic-or-lower skin, plus two additional chests associated with Honor. Riot described these as the same type of chests players had previously received through Champion Mastery. This was the plan announced in 2025, not a guarantee of current rewards.
Riot also described a maximum of up to 60 chests per year under that plan. That historical maximum should not be treated as a confirmed 2026 cap.

Where can players get Hextech Chests in 2026?
Battle Pass milestones
Riot’s Season 3: Worlds 2026 reward listing includes a Hextech Chest + Key at Battle Pass milestones 7, 16, 18, 27, 30, 36, 38 and 43. That is the reward count for this particular pass, not a universal number for every Act. Riot’s Worlds 2026 rewards listing shows the current milestones.
Honor objectives
Honor no longer awards Hextech content simply for playing games. Riot’s support guidance says players have two Honor Objectives per Season Act, which can award lootable content and Battle Pass XP. It does not describe those objectives as the two guaranteed Hextech Chests in the original 2025 announcement. Riot’s Honor FAQ explains the current system.

Did the old Champion Mastery chest route return?
No. Riot’s 2025 season-design explanation said Champion Mastery rewards were moving into Battle Pass progression and chest rewards from Mastery were ending. The chest return restored chest rewards through the announced pass and Honor plan; it did not restore every earlier way of earning them. Riot’s 2025 season-design post describes that progression change.

Riot published these rates in 2025: skin shard, 50%; champion shard, 25%; emote permanent, 10%; ward skin shard plus 150 Orange Essence, 11.5%; and summoner icon permanent plus 150 Orange Essence, 3.5%. Riot also listed two bonus drops: 10 Mythic Essence at 3.6%, and a bonus chest plus key at 10%. Those are the rates Riot published for 2025; the current sources cited here do not establish that the odds remain unchanged in 2026. Riot’s 2025 update contains the historical figures.
