Nintendo has confirmed standalone digital versions of Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version for Nintendo Switch, playable on Nintendo Switch 2. Recent speculation about Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire is based on footage and a reported datamine—not an announcement of ports or a collection.
What classic Pokémon games are confirmed for Switch?
Nintendo announced FireRed and LeafGreen as digital releases for Nintendo Switch, with compatibility on Nintendo Switch 2. These 2004 Game Boy Advance remakes revisit the Kanto region and let players encounter the original 151 Pokémon, according to Nintendo’s announcement.

Nintendo gave February 27, 2026, as the release date and a U.S. suggested retail price of $19.99 per game. The releases are digital-only; Nintendo noted that select retailers would carry them during launch week, but that does not establish a physical game card or boxed collection. The U.S. listing includes separate English, European French, and European Spanish versions, rather than language choices within one version. Nintendo’s announcement also describes features including abilities, natures, weather, held items, and a choice of player-character gender.
How multiplayer works
The Switch versions support local wireless play, so players do not need the original Game Link Cable. Nintendo says additional games and systems are required for multiplayer. They do not support online play, according to Nintendo’s FAQ reproduced by Nintendo Life.

Are these part of a Nintendo Classics collection?
No. Nintendo’s FAQ, reproduced by Nintendo Life, says FireRed and LeafGreen are standalone software and are not planned for the Game Boy Advance – Nintendo Classics catalog. They can be purchased and played without a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, according to that FAQ.
The releases therefore use a different model from games available through Nintendo Classics: they are individual purchases, not titles added to a subscription catalog. The Pokémon Company’s 2026 Pokémon Presents roundup also lists Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness for Nintendo Switch 2 through Nintendo Classics in March 2026. That is another specific classic-game release, not confirmation of a bundled mainline collection.
Why are Ruby and Sapphire ports being discussed?
A Nintendo Life report dated September 22, 2026, says an official Japanese Pokémon account shared high-definition footage of Ruby and Sapphire gameplay, renewing fan speculation. The report also cites a datamine of the FireRed/LeafGreen Switch emulator that supposedly showed support for Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald ROMs.
Neither signal confirms that those games are being ported. Nintendo Life explicitly reported that there had been no official announcement of a Ruby/Sapphire return. The footage is not a release announcement, and the reported datamine does not establish a launch window, an eventual release, or a multi-game collection.

Has Nintendo said whether more Pokémon classics are coming?
In the FAQ reproduced by Nintendo Life on February 20, 2026, Nintendo answered a question about whether other Pokémon titles might be added to Nintendo Classics: “We have nothing to announce regarding any other potential titles.” Nintendo also said in that FAQ: “We remain focused on offering classic games through Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.” That statement does not schedule any particular Pokémon game.
So far, the confirmed Switch rereleases are particular games with different availability models—not evidence that every classic generation will be ported. There is no confirmed collection, title list, price, or release date for additional mainline Pokémon games.
