Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II — The Sith Lords may be getting a remake, but that claim is based on a leak—not an official announcement. The original KOTOR remake is officially announced for PlayStation 5 and PC, while Lucasfilm’s separate Fate of the Old Republic is a new story, not a direct KOTOR sequel.
What Star Wars: KOTOR projects are actually on the way?
There are three projects being discussed, but they do not have the same confirmation status or relationship to the games:

| Project | What it is | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake | Remake of the first KOTOR game | Officially announced for PlayStation 5 and PC. The StarWars.com project page does not state a release date or provide a current development milestone. |
| Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II — The Sith Lords remake | Reported full remake of KOTOR II | A leak claim reported by Game File and relayed in secondary coverage. Lucasfilm has not officially confirmed it in the sources available here, and no platforms or release timing are established. |
| Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic | New single-player action RPG in the Old Republic era | Officially announced by Lucasfilm as a new story from Arcanaut Studios in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. It is not a direct KOTOR sequel or continuation. |
Is the KOTOR 2 remake confirmed?
No. The claim is attributed to a leak reported by Game File and cited in secondary coverage. That report says Mad Head Games is remaking KOTOR II alongside the first-game remake, but that is not the same as confirmation from Lucasfilm, the developer, or the publisher. The available report does not establish platforms, a release window, or a production milestone for a KOTOR II remake.
For now, describe the project as reportedly in development or as a leak claim. Do not treat it as an announced game or look for an official preorder.

- This renewed game may come repackaged in a generic case. It has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
What happened to the first KOTOR remake?
The first-game remake remains officially announced for PlayStation 5 and PC, according to Lucasfilm’s KOTOR remake page. Lucasfilm’s feature with Lucasfilm Games’ Orion Kellogg and Aspyr’s Ryan Treadwell provides the announcement context, but the page reviewed does not give a release date or a fresh update on development. That means the announcement and target platforms are established; a current launch timetable is not.
Is Fate of the Old Republic a KOTOR sequel?
No. Lucasfilm describes Fate of the Old Republic as an all-new story and explicitly says it is not a direct sequel or continuation of KOTOR. It is a separate single-player action RPG from Arcanaut Studios, made in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and directed by Casey Hudson, who also directed the original KOTOR.

In Lucasfilm’s 2025 interview, Lucasfilm Games VP and GM Douglas Reilly said: “Although Fate of the Old Republic is not a direct sequel or continuation, it is being built by people who helped shape that legacy.” The official interview describes the project as early in development. Its connection is through the Old Republic setting and creative legacy, not a confirmed continuation of KOTOR’s plot.
