No official Nintendo announcement for Pokémon Ruby, Pokémon Sapphire, or Pokémon Emerald on Switch has been identified as of October 8, 2026. A high-definition Pokémon clip, a reported emulator datamine, and a Pokémon HOME menu icon have fueled speculation, but none confirms a commercial port.
What sparked the Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald rumors?
The high-definition Wingull clip
On September 22, 2026, Nintendo Life reported that Poké Times, an official Japanese Pokémon social-media account, shared a 30-second clip showing a Ruby and Sapphire scene with Wingull (Peeko) and Mr. Briny. Fans noted its unusually high visual clarity and suggested it might have come from a Switch build. The report does not establish that the footage was captured from a retail or pre-release Switch version. Nintendo Life’s report presents it as a clue behind fan speculation, not confirmation.

The reported emulator datamine
The same report says a datamine of the FireRed and LeafGreen Switch emulator earlier in 2026 supposedly revealed support for Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald ROMs. Even if that reported finding is accurate, emulator compatibility by itself does not show that Nintendo is developing or planning commercial releases of those games; the report does not establish a primary artifact demonstrating such a plan.
The Pokémon HOME menu icon
In an October 8 report, Nintendo Life said Pokémon HOME version 4.1.0 added a “GBA games” menu icon for linking digital FireRed and LeafGreen versions with HOME. Some fans interpreted the label and room for another icon as a hint that more Game Boy Advance games could follow. The report also says no official announcement had been made. Which Pokémon games are officially on Switch?
Nintendo announced digital Switch releases of Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen for February 27, 2026, and said they also work on Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo’s Americas announcement lists English, French, and Spanish; language availability can vary by region. These confirmed releases are not Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald ports. Nintendo’s announcement describes FireRed and LeafGreen as individual digital releases.
Nintendo Support says the Switch versions retain broadly the same contents as the originals. For supported features, built-in local wireless replaces the Game Boy Advance cable or adapter: players can trade, battle, and play minigames locally. Online play is not supported, and Nintendo says the titles will not receive physical releases. These details apply to FireRed and LeafGreen only; Nintendo has not established that any future Hoenn release would share their format or features. Do FireRed and LeafGreen sales suggest Hoenn ports are coming?
Nintendo’s May 2026 investor report records more than 4 million global cumulative sell-through units for FireRed and LeafGreen combined during their first six weeks after their February 27 Switch release. That figure measures sales of those two games; it is not evidence that Nintendo plans Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald for Switch. There are no confirmed Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald Switch editions to compare with FireRed and LeafGreen. Nintendo has not announced their release dates, prices, features, formats, or availability. Until an official announcement or listing appears, treat claims that the Hoenn games are “in the works” as speculation—not a confirmed release or a reason to expect a particular version.
