Hollow Knight strongly implies that Sheo and the Nailsmith become a couple, though neither character explicitly says they are romantically involved. The clearest clue is the “Happy Couple” achievement awarded after the Nailsmith joins Sheo and they begin making art together.
What happens to the Nailsmith if you spare him?
After forging the Pure Nail, the Nailsmith asks the Knight to kill him. If you spare him and leave, he later appears at Sheo’s hut in Greenpath. Listening to the Nailsmith there awards the “Happy Couple” achievement. The Hollow Knight Wiki’s Nailsmith page describes this outcome.
What does Sheo say about their life together?
Sheo explains that the Nailsmith arrived at his hut distressed and looking for a new purpose. They talked, discovered a shared love of creating and refining their craft, and began making art together. The Hollow Knight Wiki reproduces Sheo’s dialogue: “This fellow came wandering in to my hut, quite distraught and on his own quest for a new calling in life. We talked, and found a common love of creating and building and honing a craft. So now we make art together!” Sheo’s character page gives the dialogue.
Is their relationship explicitly confirmed as romantic?
No explicit spoken declaration is established by these details. The achievement’s name, “Happy Couple,” is the strongest romantic signal; Sheo’s description of their shared creative life reinforces the warm, lasting nature of the reunion. Together, these clues make a romantic reading well supported, but it remains an implication rather than a direct verbal confirmation.
