Not confirmed by the official sources available as of October 8, 2026. The Illuminate returned in the December 2024 Omens of Tyranny update, and Arrowhead launched a separate Void-focused story arc, Devoid of Liberty, in August 2026. A community-maintained wiki lists a battle on Genesis Prime beginning August 24, 2026, but that is not official confirmation of a distinct “Round 2” there.
What does “Round 2” refer to?
The phrase suggests a second Illuminate campaign on Genesis Prime. The official announcements establish two different story beats, but they do not describe them as two rounds on that planet.

Arrowhead’s August 25, 2026 update says combined SEAF and Helldiver efforts on Seasse temporarily pierced the Void. Sony Interactive Entertainment likewise characterized the new arc as horror-themed, with mutated Illuminate organisms and worlds and enemies transformed by the Void. Neither official account identifies Genesis Prime as the setting for a second round.
Is there a battle on Genesis Prime?
A community-maintained Helldivers Wiki page for Genesis Prime describes the planet as under Illuminate control and lists a battle beginning August 24, 2026. That is a secondary report, not an official Galactic War dispatch. The official sources cited here do not corroborate the page’s live-state listing or establish a distinct “Round 2” on Genesis Prime.

So the careful answer is: the wiki reports a Genesis Prime battle, but official confirmation of its current status—and of the “Round 2” framing—is not established. The confirmed August 2026 campaign location named by Arrowhead is the Source Planet, formerly Seasse.
What is confirmed about the Illuminate’s return?
In December 2024, Katherine Baskin, Social Media and Community Manager at Arrowhead Game Studios, introduced Omens of Tyranny with the line, “The time has come, Helldivers. The War has changed.” The post’s section heading, “The Illuminate return,” makes the faction’s comeback explicit.

The later Devoid of Liberty arc expands the conflict into the Void. Arrowhead’s announcement says, “The Gateway is now open,” and describes altered worlds and missions focused on documenting corruption, destroying Illuminate structures, reconnaissance, and extraction. These are separate dated developments, not evidence by themselves of a Genesis Prime rematch.

Sony Interactive Entertainment reported more than 22.9 million players across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC as of August 9, 2026. That is a cumulative player figure attributed to Sony, not a current concurrent-player count and not a measure of participation on Genesis Prime. Sony’s August 12 announcement.
