The limited-time PS5 themes celebrating PlayStation, PS2, PS3 and PS4 were removed in early 2025, but console-generation-inspired appearances are now available in PS5 system software. To find them, open Settings > System > Appearance > Appearance and Sound.
How to choose a PlayStation-inspired appearance on PS5
- Open Settings on your PS5.
- Select System > Appearance > Appearance and Sound.
- Choose an available console-generation-inspired design and apply it.
PlayStation Support documents the feature in PS5 system software version 25.03-11.20.00. Sony describes it as a design inspired by a favorite PlayStation console generation that can be applied to the home screen and other areas. The support note does not enumerate every available design.
This is a software setting; you do not need to buy a limited-edition console, accessory, or other anniversary product to use it.
What happened to the limited-time anniversary themes?
On January 30, 2025, PlayStation said the classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3 and PS4 limited-time console themes would leave the next day. As reported by VGC, PlayStation also said it was working behind the scenes to bring the designs back in the months ahead after the positive response.

Sony later documented a console-generation-inspired appearance option in version 25.03-11.20.00. That confirms that generation-inspired customization is available, but it does not establish that every part of the temporary anniversary experience returned.
Did the 30th Anniversary boot animation return?
The official software update note confirms an appearance choice for the home screen and other areas. It does not confirm the return of the 30th Anniversary boot animation or every other element of the limited-time rollout. Sony’s anniversary page also describes campaign merchandise and downloadable wallpapers, which are separate from the PS5 appearance setting.
