Both are digital rereleases, sold separately or together in the 25th Birthday Bundle.
Where to get the rereleases
EA lists the collections for Windows 10 and 11 through the EA app, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. The release is digital, rather than a new physical PC edition. See EA’s 25th-anniversary announcement and the Sims: Legacy Collection product page.

The product page says an EA Account, internet connection, EA app installation, and acceptance of the EA User Agreement are required to play The Sims: Legacy Collection. Check the Sims 2 listing for its corresponding terms rather than assuming they are identical.
What each collection includes
The Sims: Legacy Collection
The original The Sims comes with seven expansion packs: Livin’ Large, House Party, Hot Date, Vacation, Unleashed, Superstar, and Makin’ Magic. EA Help also lists The Sims 4: Throwback Fit Kit as included. The collection contents are detailed on EA’s product page and EA Help.

The Sims 2: Legacy Collection
This collection includes The Sims 2 and University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Bon Voyage, Seasons, FreeTime, and Apartment Life. It also includes Holiday Party Pack, Family Fun Stuff, Glamour Life Stuff, Happy Holiday Stuff, Celebration! Stuff, H&M Fashion Stuff, Teen Style Stuff, Kitchen & Bath Interior Design Stuff, and Mansion & Garden Stuff. EA’s anniversary page also lists The Sims 4: Grunge Revival Kit with the collection. 25th Birthday Bundle
EA says the bundle contains both Legacy Collections. It is an alternative to buying them separately; compare the current price and included content in your local storefront before choosing.

Launch prices and what to check now
At announcement, EA gave suggested US prices of $19.99 for The Sims: Legacy Collection, $29.99 for The Sims 2: Legacy Collection, and $39.99 for the 25th Birthday Bundle. These are 2025 launch-era prices, not confirmation of current pricing. Store prices can vary by region and promotion, so check the EA app, Steam, or Epic listing where you plan to buy.

Published minimums for The Sims: Legacy Edition
EA Help lists these minimum requirements for the Sims 1 collection: Windows 10; an Intel i3-3220, AMD Ryzen 3 1200, or AMD FX-6300 processor; 4 GB RAM; 16 GB of free disk space; and NVIDIA GTX 600-series, AMD Radeon HD 7000-series, or Intel HD Graphics 620-series graphics. These specifications are for The Sims: Legacy Edition; consult the Sims 2 product listing for that collection’s requirements instead of applying these figures to both. Full details are on EA Help.

Modern display support, with some old bugs retained
EA describes the first game’s relaunch as rebuilt for modern computers while aiming to preserve its original gameplay and graphics. Its listed changes include Windows 10/11 support, Vulkan graphics, widescreen support, and higher-quality textures. EA says it fixed bugs considered safe to address but left some issues untouched where a fix was considered risky. The release is therefore a compatibility-focused return, not a promise that every original problem has been removed.
Old saves and mods
EA says uncorrupted The Sims save files can work with the rerelease if copied into the new save location; consult EA Help for the location and steps. Mods are unsupported and untested by Maxis, so whether a mod works is up to its creator. That guidance is specific to the first game and should not be assumed to cover The Sims 2.
