Yes, potentially—but the clearest example is implied, not explicitly confirmed. Beauty Nova, an NPC in Pokémon X and Y, is widely read by fans as a transgender woman because of dialogue about her past as a Black Belt. The game does not directly identify her as trans, so it is more accurate to call her an implied or fan-recognized example than confirmed canon.
What is the strongest example?
Beauty Nova in Pokémon X and Y
Beauty Nova appears at the Kalos Battle Maison. The LGBTQ Video Game Archive notes that many fans interpret her dialogue about having previously been a Black Belt as implying she is transgender. That reading draws on the gendered context of the trainer classes, but it is still an implication: the game does not explicitly say Nova is transgender. The archive’s discussion of Nova supports describing her as widely read as trans, not as an officially confirmed identity.

Be careful with quotations or paraphrases of Nova’s line. The archive notes localization considerations, and the evidence here does not establish that every regional version uses the same wording. Without a verified primary script for a particular language and release, avoid treating one translation as universal.
What counts as a canon LGBTQ character?
Readers often mean different things by “canon.” A useful distinction is how directly an official game, show, or other Pokémon story identifies a character:

- Visit shops, restaurants, and places called wild zones—where Pokémon roam free—all centered around Prism Tower
- Explicit identity: The character or an official source directly identifies them as LGBTQ. No example at this level is established by the sources covered here.
- Strong implication: The story supports an LGBTQ reading without stating it outright. Beauty Nova belongs in this category.
- Ambiguous or localization-dependent evidence: Dialogue, pronouns, presentation, or romantic subtext may invite a reading, but the evidence can depend on interpretation or language version. It should not be upgraded to confirmed canon without stronger support.
- Fan interpretation: A headcanon or fan reading can be meaningful without being an official statement about the character.
Pokémon Support says that questions about character origins, legends, or histories left unanswered by the games, films, or television are intended to remain open to fans’ imaginations and interpretations. That explains why interpretations can differ; it does not confirm a particular character’s identity. Pokémon Support’s statement is about unanswered questions generally, not a specific LGBTQ character.
Does Pokémon’s workplace inclusion establish on-screen representation?
No. The Pokémon Company’s corporate inclusion page describes Rainbow Gym as an LGBTQIA+ employee resource group. That is evidence of a workplace inclusion initiative, not evidence that a fictional character has a particular identity. The company’s people and culture page should be understood in that separate context.

What about Pokémon Legends: Z-A?
The official Pokémon Legends: Z-A page says the player’s chosen appearance determines whether Urbain or Taunie appears. It describes a character-selection consequence, not either character’s sexual orientation or gender identity. The selection mechanic alone is not evidence that either character is LGBTQ. See the official game page for the stated appearance-based choice.

- Explicitness: Does the character identify themselves, or does the evidence imply an identity?
- Localization: Does the reading hold in the specific language and release being discussed?
- Scope: Does the evidence concern one character, or is someone making a claim about the franchise as a whole?
The material covered here does not establish a comprehensive list across the games, anime, manga, and regional versions. That is not proof that no other examples exist; it is a reason to avoid presenting an unverified franchise-wide list as settled canon.
