The Monarch Wings are a gameplay ability that lets the Knight jump again in midair. The Hollow Knight Wiki says the Knight acquires them in Ancient Basin after the Broken Vessel encounter. The wording is the key distinction: the reported manual description says “monarchfly,” not “butterfly.” The wording is quoted here as the wiki attributes it to the manual; the manual text itself is not independently confirmed by that page.
What is the Moth Tribe?

Are Monarch Wings butterfly wings?
The available references do not say that. They use two distinct terms for different things: “monarchfly” in the reported Monarch Wings manual description, and “moth” for the Moth Tribe. Treating either as a confirmed butterfly species—or treating the moths as butterflies—would go beyond what those sources establish.
