What is known about PC security now?
In a report published September 5, 2026, Windows Central’s Jez Corden said Activision told the publication: “An update released this week addressed all known vulnerabilities in Modern Warfare 2. The team continues to support our legacy titles, with additional updates coming soon. The wording matters: Activision said the update addressed known vulnerabilities. The statement does not certify the game as vulnerability-free, describe an independent audit, or quantify the current chance of encountering a cheater. The report is specifically about PC; it is not evidence that all platforms received the same fix.

Does the PC update answer the Xbox or PlayStation question?
No. The September 2026 report said the journalist had separately asked Activision about Xbox backwards-compatible versions but had not received a response when the article was published. It therefore does not establish the current security status of Xbox, and it does not provide a definitive assessment for PlayStation. Do not treat the PC update as proof that console play is risk-free—or as proof that consoles have the same issue.

Likewise, Activision’s RICOCHET Anti-Cheat overview lists later games, including Modern Warfare II (2022), but does not name Modern Warfare 2 (2009). There is no basis in that list for saying RICOCHET protects the original game.
