Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor the October 1–8, 2026 offer, the reported free games are BURIED STARS and System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster. They’re worth claiming if either a mystery adventure or a remastered older game appeals to you; there’s no evidence here to call either a must-play for everyone. TechWiser reports that the offer ends October 8 at 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time, so check Epic’s live listing for the exact deadline before claiming.
Which games are free this week?
PC Gamer and TechWiser both report that Epic’s October 1–8, 2026 giveaway includes BURIED STARS and System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster (PC Gamer’s free-games tracker; TechWiser’s weekly listing). Epic describes the program as giving away “a free game every week” and promotes new weekly games on Thursdays (Epic Games Store free games).

The giveaway is separate from Epic’s standing free-to-play catalog and demos, which appear on the same store page. The two titles above are the reported limited-time offers, not a claim that every free-to-play game is part of this week’s giveaway.
Are they worth claiming for your taste?
BURIED STARS
TechWiser describes BURIED STARS as a mystery adventure. If you’re in the mood for a story-led mystery, that genre is the clearest reason to add it to your library. The available reports don’t establish a review score, playtime, or a comparative quality verdict, so the genre—not an unsupported claim about quality—is the sound basis for deciding.
#1 Best Overall
- Redeemable on accounts in the United States and in U.S. Dollars.
- Gift card must be redeemed at EpicGames.com/redeem. This gift card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly on a console device (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)
- If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
- Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms
- Redemption: Online
System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster
The other offer is a remaster of an older game, identified by its 25th-anniversary subtitle. It may suit players interested in revisiting or trying a remastered classic. The reports don’t establish technical performance or how this version compares with other editions, so consider your interest in the game and its remaster rather than assuming the update will appeal to everyone.
When does the offer end?
The two current listings agree on an October 1–8, 2026 claim window. TechWiser specifies an end time of 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time on October 8. Epic’s general free-games page confirms the weekly cadence, but the listing available for this article did not display these titles. Because the deadline is close and storefront timing can be decisive, confirm both games and the exact end time on Epic’s live page before you claim.
