Arena Powered Cube is a high-powered, temporary draft event on MTG Arena, but it is not established as Magic’s most popular cube overall. Wizards says it drew more entrants than any previous Cube event in Arena history. Its latest verified run, September 8–28, 2026, has ended.
What is Arena Powered Cube?
Cube is a draft format built from a curated card pool rather than a normal set. Arena Powered Cube draws on powerful cards from across Magic’s history, including cards such as Black Lotus and Time Walk. Its high power level is the point: players draft from a deliberately potent selection, then build a deck from their picks.
The event is played digitally in MTG Arena. At its October 2025 launch, it was Phantom, meaning drafted cards did not enter players’ collections. Wizards’ launch announcement also said some cards in the cube would not initially be collectible.
Is Arena Powered Cube available now?
No. The latest verified schedule listed the event from September 8 through September 28, 2026, so that run is over. Wizards has described Cube as a rotating event and updates the card list when Powered Cube returns, but the sources cited here do not establish a later schedule.

Why is it called MTG’s most popular cube?
That wording overstates what the available evidence proves. In its September 2026 State of the Formats article, Wizards said Arena Powered Cube drew more entrants than any previous Cube event in MTG Arena history. Dave Finseth of MTG Arena wrote, “We see more players entering these events than ever before in MTG Arena’s history.” The comparison is specifically about Arena Cube events, not every cube played on Arena, Magic Online, or at a tabletop.
Wizards also said Cube can account for up to 20% of Limited play near the end of a set release. That is a share for Cube in that context, not a measured popularity ranking for Powered Cube across Magic. Wizards has rotated other Arena experiences, including Arena Cube, Tinkerers Cube, and Chromatic Cube, but has not published a common head-to-head participation dataset for those formats.

How the event worked at launch
The October 2025 announcement described two draft queues. These details and prices are historical launch terms, not confirmed terms for a future run.
| Queue | Format | Launch entry |
|---|---|---|
| Ranked | Best-of-One Draft | 10,000 gold, 1,500 gems, or one Player Draft token |
| Traditional | Best-of-Three Draft; unranked | 10,000 gold, 1,500 gems, or one Player Draft token |
The 2025 announcement said signup was scheduled to close November 18, 2025. It also described Cube Prize Packs containing seven cards, including at least two rare or mythic rare cards and at least one card from a rotating bonus sheet. Those were launch-edition details; they should not be assumed for later events.

What changed in the September 2026 edition?
Wizards’ September 2026 design article says seven cards were added to the Arena client specifically for that edition. The update also discussed balance changes involving the monarch mechanic and adjustments to archetypes. This illustrates why a returning Cube may not have exactly the same draft pool or balance as a prior run.
