If ARK: Survival Evolved disconnects a player and they can immediately reconnect, an administrator probably used a kick command or a server tool removed the session. If the player is refused every time they try to return, treat a ban as the leading explanation, even when the on-screen wording says they were kicked. Other possibilities include an ID-format mismatch, an unofficial server policy, an anti-cheat disconnect, or a stale session that still appears connected.

What “kicked” means in ARK
In ARK administration, “kick” and “ban” are different actions:

This distinction is the fastest way to interpret the report. A player who says “I was kicked” but cannot rejoin after several attempts is probably banned or still present in the server’s banned list. A one-time disconnect followed by a successful return is more consistent with a kick, a transient session problem, or an anti-cheat removal.

Check the symptom before changing anything
The player returns successfully
Ask the player to reconnect once. If the connection succeeds, investigate an administrator action, a host tool, a brief network interruption, or an anti-cheat event rather than assuming a permanent punishment. Record the approximate time and the player’s platform so you can compare it with console activity or server logs that your host exposes.
The player is rejected on every attempt
Check the banned list and the player’s ID before changing server settings. A previous BanPlayer action can make the message look like a kick while preventing every subsequent connection. If the ban was accidental, use UnBanPlayer with the same ID type the server accepts, then have the player try again.

The player is dropped a few seconds after joining
A disconnect that occurs shortly after connection and includes an anti-cheat message is plausibly related to BattlEye. The available hosting guidance identifies BattlEye as the usual suspect in this pattern, but that guidance is not a dated, independently verified fix. Treat the suggested repair as a troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed solution.
The message says another session is already connected
“Already a player with this account connected” is a community-reported stale-session symptom. On official servers, players report waiting for the session timeout. On a private server, the administrator can try removing the stale session. Neither remedy is confirmed by an official source, so avoid presenting a timeout duration as a universal rule.

Causes of an ARK player being removed
1. An administrator or management tool issued a kick
This is the best-supported explanation when one named player is disconnected and can return. The server command KickPlayer removes that player immediately without placing them on the permanent banned list. Third-party control panels and moderation tools may expose the same operation through a button, so check both the in-game console and the host’s activity log if one is available.
2. The player was banned earlier
A ban can be mistaken for a kick because the first visible event is a disconnect. The decisive clue is failed re-entry. Check whether the player’s ID is on the banned list and reverse it with UnBanPlayer if the punishment was not intended. Do not repeatedly issue kick commands while a ban remains; a kick cannot override a ban.
3. The command used the wrong ID format
Sources disagree about which identifier format KickPlayer and BanPlayer expect. Some administration guides show a Steam64 ID, while another lists a 17-digit Steam ID, a 19-digit Epic ID, and a 32-character EOS ID. If the pasted identifier does not match what that server build and platform expect, the command commonly has no visible effect instead of returning a clear error.
Because of that ambiguity, “the command did nothing” is not proof that the player was offline, that the console failed, or that ARK ignored the administrator. Confirm the platform and the ID type first, then repeat the command with the format expected by the server.

4. An unofficial server’s policy removed the player
Community reports from unofficial servers describe kicks and failed re-entry as administrative decisions rather than game faults. The host or server owner may enforce rules that are not present on official servers. In that situation, the practical route is to contact the server administrator and ask which rule or moderation action caused the removal. A client-side repair cannot overturn a deliberate host policy.
5. BattlEye disconnected the session
When the player connects, plays briefly, and then receives an anti-cheat-related message, BattlEye is a plausible cause. The reviewed hosting guidance suggests reinstalling BattlEye from the ARK installation folder and verifying the game files through Steam. The guidance was not checked against BattlEye’s own documentation and has no verified date, so administrators should describe this as a repair attempt rather than an established ARK patch.

The “already a player” report points to an account that the server still considers connected after the original session disappeared. Community users report waiting for an official-server timeout or asking a private-server administrator to kick the stale session. Since the behavior and timing are not confirmed by an official source, escalate to the server operator instead of promising a fixed waiting period.
7. A disputed taming anecdote
One Steam community user claimed that taming a pegomastax caused kick and ban commands to stop working and that removing the creature fixed the problem. Another commenter reported that kick and ban still failed for them. This is a single, disputed anecdote, not a dependable diagnostic or remedy. Do not remove creatures or alter a live server on that basis unless you have independent evidence from your own installation.

Admin console commands: exact distinction and syntax
The command names below are shown with the admincheat prefix used for server administration. Replace the bracketed value with the player identifier; keep the variable inside your console command, not as literal brackets.

The command syntax is consistent in the administration guides, but the identifier placeholder is not. Despite the placeholder name SteamID, cross-platform servers may require the ID associated with Steam, Epic, or EOS. Treat the server’s accepted format as the controlling detail.

Step-by-step workflow for server administrators
- Confirm the symptom. Ask whether the player can rejoin, whether the disconnect occurs immediately or after a few seconds, and what exact message appears. A failed rejoin points toward a ban; a delayed anti-cheat message points toward BattlEye; an “already connected” message points toward a stale session.
- Enter administrator mode. At the server console, run
enablecheats [ServerAdminPassword]. Use the password configured for that server, not a player’s ordinary account password. - Identify the player. Open the administration interface with
ShowMyAdminManageror useListPlayers, depending on the command set exposed by your server and the guide you are following. Copy the identifier exactly, without spaces or punctuation added by a chat window. - Verify the identifier type. Determine whether the server expects a Steam64/17-digit Steam identifier, a 19-digit Epic identifier, or a 32-character EOS identifier. The available guides conflict, so do not assume that an ID copied from one platform works on another.
- Choose kick or ban deliberately. Use
admincheat KickPlayer [SteamID]for a temporary removal. Useadmincheat BanPlayer [SteamID]only when you intend to block re-entry until an administrator reverses it. - Confirm the result. For a kick, have the player reconnect. For a ban, verify that re-entry is refused and that the ID appears on the banned list. If an accidental ban was applied, run
admincheat UnBanPlayer [SteamID]with the same accepted ID format. - Escalate a no-op in the right order. If nothing happens, recheck the ID format before changing unrelated settings. A format mismatch is specifically reported to produce no visible result. Only after that check should you investigate permissions, the player’s current connection state, or host-panel controls.
How to troubleshoot a command that does nothing
Confirm that the target is the right account
Names are not reliable identifiers when multiple platforms or similar display names are involved. Use the identifier returned by the server’s administration tools, and compare its length and character pattern with the format your server expects. A 17-digit value should not be substituted for a 19-digit Epic value or a 32-character EOS value merely because it belongs to the same person.
Check whether you are testing a kick against a ban
If the player is already banned, issuing KickPlayer does not make the ban temporary. Remove the ban first with UnBanPlayer if your goal is to restore access, then test a normal connection.

Check both the game console and the host panel
Some servers are managed through a hosting control panel as well as the in-game console. A panel may show a separate banned list or moderation action. Compare the two sources before assuming that the command was never executed.
Do not infer a fix from a silent console
The available guidance says a wrong ID format usually does nothing rather than returning an error. Record the exact command, ID type, platform, and time of the attempt. That record makes it possible to distinguish an identifier problem from a stale session or a host-side policy.

Use this path only when the symptom includes an anti-cheat message or a drop shortly after joining. It is not a general cure for administrator kicks or bans.
- Capture the message. Ask the player for the exact BattlEye wording and whether they can stay connected long enough to play normally.
- Reinstall BattlEye from the ARK folder. Use the BattlEye installer supplied inside the game’s installation directory. The available hosting guidance recommends this step, but does not document a version-specific installer path or guarantee.
- Verify the game files in Steam. Run Steam’s file-verification function for ARK after the BattlEye reinstall.
- Retest on the same server. If the player remains connected, the anti-cheat installation was a plausible contributor. If the player is still rejected, preserve the message and escalate to the host or platform support rather than repeatedly reinstalling.
No official 2026 patch note addressing unexpected kicks was identified in the available material, and BattlEye’s own documentation was not reviewed. That limits how confidently this repair can be described.
Official and unofficial servers: who controls the outcome?

Do not apply unofficial-server expectations to an official server. Conversely, a private host can maintain its own moderation policy, so a client repair cannot restore access that the owner intentionally revoked.
What to record before you reverse a punishment
- The player’s platform: Steam, Epic, or an EOS-based connection.
- The exact identifier and its format: Steam64/17-digit, Epic/19-digit, or EOS/32-character, as applicable.
- The exact on-screen message and whether reconnection succeeds.
- Whether the drop is immediate or occurs after several seconds of play.
- The time of the event and the administrator account that issued a command.
- Whether the host panel and in-game console show the same banned or connected state.
This information prevents an accidental unban of the wrong account and gives the host enough context to distinguish moderation from anti-cheat or stale-session behavior.

- Calling every disconnect a kick. A failed rejoin is a ban clue; an anti-cheat message is a different branch.
- Repeating a command with the same wrong ID format. The documented symptom of a mismatch is usually silence, so repeating it cannot resolve the underlying problem.
- Using a ban when a temporary removal is intended. A ban persists until
UnBanPlayeris run. - Assuming all servers use the same identifier. Cross-platform ID formats differ, and the guides do not agree on one universal input.
- Treating an anecdote as a patch. The pegomastax claim is disputed and should not guide routine administration.
- Promising a fixed stale-session timeout. Community reports do not establish a universal duration.
- Presenting BattlEye repair as confirmed. Reinstalling BattlEye and verifying files are suggested troubleshooting steps, not a verified official fix.
Decision tree for the fastest diagnosis
- Can the player rejoin? If yes, inspect recent kick actions, host tools, and transient anti-cheat or network messages. If no, check the ban state and ID first.
- Does the message mention BattlEye? If yes, follow the BattlEye repair path. If no, continue.
- Does it say the account is already connected? If yes, treat it as a stale-session report: wait on an official server or ask the private administrator to clear the session.
- Did a kick or ban command appear to do nothing? Verify the player-ID format and platform before changing other settings.
- Is the server unofficial? Ask its administrator whether a local policy caused the removal. If it is official, use the official-server support path for persistent session-state problems.
Bottom line for administrators
Start with the rejoin test. A player who returns was likely kicked or disconnected transiently; a player who cannot return is probably banned. Use KickPlayer for a temporary removal, BanPlayer for a persistent block, and UnBanPlayer to reverse that block. When a command has no visible effect, verify the platform-specific ID format before assuming the server is broken. Reserve BattlEye repair for anti-cheat symptoms, treat stale-session advice as community guidance, and do not rely on the disputed pegomastax anecdote.
