If an ARK server is missing from the cluster list or server browser, work through these checks in order: allow the server to finish starting, update it and restart it, give it a unique SessionName, verify public UDP ports 7777 and 27015, then try a direct IP connection. Cluster transfers only work when the destination server is publicly visible.

The exact discovery path depends on the game. ARK: Survival Evolved (ASE) uses Steam’s server browser, while ARK: Survival Ascended (ASA) uses Epic Online Services (EOS) for discovery. A fix that works for ASE’s Steam browser may not make an ASA server appear in the same way.

Identify which ARK version and symptom you have
Before changing configuration, establish whether you are running ASE or ASA and whether the problem is discovery or transfer. The terms “cluster list,” “server browser,” and “obelisk” describe related but different failure points.

Do not assume that a Steam-browser fix proves an ASA fix. The two versions use different discovery systems.

Use this repair order
- Wait for a complete startup. A 2026 hosting guide estimates five to ten minutes for some starts. Treat that as a guide estimate, not a guaranteed timing.
- Stop, update and restart. One 2026 guide reported that the game was receiving one to three updates per day and that an out-of-date server could drop out of listings.
- Set a unique session name. Edit
GameUserSettings.iniunder[SessionSettings], save it and restart. - Verify reachability. Forward UDP 7777 for game traffic and UDP 27015 for Steam server queries. ASA also depends on peer-to-peer punch-through, which some NAT arrangements block.
- Use direct connection as a diagnostic or temporary workaround. Add the server’s address in the client’s server favourites, using the query port for lookup where supported.
If a server remains absent after all five steps, record the game edition, operating system, hosting network, public IP arrangement and exact ports before escalating. Those details distinguish a configuration problem from a platform or NAT limitation.
Let the server finish starting and apply the current update
Wait for a finished startup
A process that is still loading saves, installing an update or rebuilding its server state may not advertise itself yet. Leave the server running until its host panel or console indicates that startup has completed, then refresh the client list. The five-to-ten-minute estimate comes from a hosting guide and can vary with map size, storage speed, installed mods and the host’s update process; it is not an official Studio Wildcard service-level figure.

Use the host’s stop control, run its Steam or dedicated-server update action, wait for the update to finish, and start the server again. Do not repeatedly refresh the list while an update is still replacing files. A 2026 guide said the game was updating one to three times a day; that frequency was not independently verified, so check for updates whenever the client itself has changed or when a previously visible server disappears immediately after a game update.
After restarting, wait for the normal startup period before judging the result. If the server returns after an update, the listing failure was likely caused by version mismatch or incomplete startup rather than the cluster settings.
Give the server a unique SessionName
Find the setting
Open the server’s GameUserSettings.ini file and locate the [SessionSettings] section. The ARK community wiki describes SessionName as the name advertised in the Game Server Browser and, for Steam discovery, in the Steam server browser.

[SessionSettings]
SessionName=My Unique ARK ServerReplace the example with a name that identifies this particular server. Avoid leaving the value blank or using the same name for multiple servers that players must distinguish. Duplicate or empty names are plausible reasons for confusing or missing results, but no source confirmed them as a universal root cause.
Save safely and restart
- Stop the server before editing the file so the running process cannot overwrite your change.
- Make a backup copy of
GameUserSettings.ini. - Change only the
SessionNameline, preserving the section header and file format. - Save the file, start the server and wait for startup to finish.
- Search for the exact new name, including punctuation and spaces.
If the name reverts after a restart, the host may be generating configuration from a control panel or startup parameter. In that case, change the value in the panel’s server-name field as well as in the file, then restart once.
Check ports, forwarding and public reachability
Use the correct ports

The ARK community wiki lists UDP 7777 as the game port, UDP 27015 as the Steam query port and TCP 27020 for optional RCON. Do not expose or forward RCON merely to fix a listing problem.
Forward to the correct machine
On the router, create forwarding rules for UDP 7777 and, for ASE or Steam-browser discovery, UDP 27015 to the server’s internal address. Confirm that the server machine keeps the same internal address; if DHCP assigns a new address, a rule can silently point at the wrong computer. Also check the machine firewall and any host-level security rule that could drop unsolicited UDP packets.
Check whether the server has a public route
A server bound only to a private LAN address will not be visible to friends on the internet. Cluster transfer also relies on the destination server being publicly visible, according to an older community reply. Test from a different network or ask a friend outside the host’s LAN to search after the restart; a successful search only from the host machine is not proof of public reachability.

Carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT) is a major limitation. A 2026 ASA guide says ASA needs UDP 7777 plus peer-to-peer punch-through and that some CGNAT arrangements block this outright. If the host’s WAN address is shared with other customers, ordinary router forwarding may not be enough. Request a real public IPv4 address from the internet provider, use a hosting network that supports inbound traffic, or move the server to a network without the CGNAT restriction.
Windows Server and Epic visibility caveat
A thread title on the official ARK community forums reports visibility problems for Epic/EGS players on Windows Server 2016, 2019 and 2022. The thread body was not available for verification, so neither the mechanism nor a version-specific fix is established. If all ports and settings are correct but EGS players alone cannot see the server, record the Windows Server version and treat an operating-system or EOS compatibility issue as a possibility rather than changing unrelated cluster files.
Account for ASA and ASE discovery differences
ASE: Steam query visibility
ASE uses Steam’s server browser. UDP 27015 must answer Steam’s query, while UDP 7777 carries the game connection. A server can therefore be running locally yet absent from the public browser if the query port is blocked or forwarded to the wrong machine.
ASA: Epic Online Services discovery
ASA discovery uses Epic Online Services rather than Steam, according to a 2026 ASA hosting guide. Keep UDP 7777 open and ensure the host can complete the required peer-to-peer punch-through. Do not conclude that a missing Steam-browser entry proves an ASA server is offline; the discovery path is different.
The ARK community wiki describes an official-looking Ascended server-list JSON endpoint on Studio Wildcard’s CDN. That endpoint is not a client-side repair and was not validated here, so do not edit it or treat it as a substitute for fixing the server’s startup and network configuration.

Try the Culture=en check only after the main fixes
An April 2026 ASA guide claims that a missing Culture=en entry is the most common cause of a missing server. The same guide acknowledges that Studio Wildcard has not documented the mechanism, and no second source confirmed it. Treat this as a low-confidence check, not an established fix.
Where the entry goes
In the ASA dedicated-server configuration directory ShooterGame/Saved/Config/WindowsServer, edit GameUserSettings.ini and add:
[Internationalization]
Culture=en- Stop the server and back up the file.
- Check whether an
[Internationalization]section already exists. - Add or correct the
Culture=enline without deleting unrelated settings. - Save, restart and allow the full startup period.
- Search again using the ASA client’s normal list.
If the server still does not appear, remove the change if it was the only recent edit and return to the verified checks: update state, session name, UDP 7777, public reachability and NAT.

Use direct connection when listing is the problem
Direct connection can distinguish “the server is unreachable” from “the directory is not displaying it.” A 2026 guide suggests adding the server by IP in Steam’s server favourites. The lookup uses query port 27015, after which the client connects to the game on port 7777.
- Open the client’s server browser and select the Favorites tab.
- Choose the option to add a server by IP address.
- Enter the public address and query port in the form supplied by the host, normally
public-ip:27015for ASE/Steam lookup. - Refresh the favourites list and attempt to join the returned entry.
This procedure is primarily documented for ASE. ASA may behave differently because it uses EOS discovery, so failure of Steam favourites does not by itself prove that an ASA server is down. Never use a private address such as 192.168.x.x when testing from outside the host’s LAN.

When a clustered server is missing from the obelisk
Verify visibility before attempting a transfer
Cluster transfers depend on the destination server being publicly visible. If the missing node cannot be found in the normal list or reached directly, fix its startup, update, session name and network path first. Uploading a survivor from the source server cannot make an unreachable destination appear.
Older player-side workaround
A 2023 community workaround describes this sequence:
- Travel to another server in the same cluster.
- Exit to the server list without spawning into the world.
- Load the affected server from the list.
- Download the survivor when the transfer screen becomes available.
This is an old player report, not an official procedure, and it was not checked against current ASA or ASE versions. Use it only after confirming that the affected server is visible and reachable, and do not treat it as a replacement for correcting the server configuration.

What is and is not officially confirmed
No Studio Wildcard support article or patch note confirming a specific fix for this listing problem was found as of October 14, 2026. The startup timing, update-frequency figures, Culture setting and Windows Server/Epic visibility report come from community or hosting sources with stated limitations. Port assignments and the role of SessionName are described by the ARK community wiki, while ASA’s EOS discovery path is reported by a 2026 ASA guide.
That evidence supports a disciplined order of operations rather than one guaranteed switch: complete the update, advertise a clear session name, make the required ports publicly reachable, account for the game edition’s discovery system, and use direct connection to isolate directory problems from network failures.
