The ARK Official Community Wiki labels those options easy. Portal is labeled easiest, but the same source warns it can be one of the more dangerous spawn points, so its label is not a reliable safety guide.
How to choose your first Aberration spawn
Use three things to compare the choices: the wiki’s difficulty label, any explicit warning about danger, and whether a safer route depends on heading in a particular direction. These are general starting-point notes, not a guarantee about what you will encounter on a particular server or on an individual spawn.
The ARK Official Community Wiki’s Aberration spawn list assigns the following labels and caveats:
| Spawn option | Wiki label | What to make of it |
|---|---|---|
| Fertile Lake 1, 2, and 3 | Easy | Reasonable cautious defaults for a new player; “easy” is a broad label, not a safety guarantee. |
| Portal | Easiest | Do not choose it just because of the label: the wiki warns it can be one of the more dangerous spawn points. |
| Fertile Lake 4 | Medium | A middle-labeled option; no more specific safety comparison is established. |
| Upper Mushroom Forest, Lower Mushroom Forest, and Fertile River | Medium | Other medium-labeled options, without a supported precise safety ranking. |
| The Edge 1 | Hard | A conditional alternative: the wiki says it can be among the safer points if you head north. |
| The Edge 2, 3, and 4 | Hard | Hard-labeled alternatives; the source does not establish a more specific comparative safety claim. |
Is Portal really the easiest place to start?
It is labeled “Easiest” in the wiki’s list, but that does not mean it is the safest choice. The source specifically cautions that Portal can be one of the more dangerous spawn points. For a first attempt, treat the label and the warning together rather than reading “easiest” as a promise of low risk.

When does The Edge 1 make sense?
The Edge 1 is labeled hard, but the wiki describes it as one of the safer points when a player goes north. That makes it a direction-dependent alternative, not a broadly safe pick: the qualification matters, and the source does not support extending that claim to The Edge 2–4.
What the labels do—and do not—tell you
Aberration includes distinct Fertile, Bioluminescent, Element, and surface areas. The wiki describes cold in the blue region, radiation in parts of Element, and other environmental hazards. A spawn label alone does not account for every route or hazard you may encounter as you move away from your starting area.
Rank #2
Do not rely on precise coordinates from an explorer map to settle the choice. The Aberration explorer map says spawn points have not yet been added to its ASA map. It therefore cannot verify exact current ASA spawn positions or establish a definitive safety ranking for them.

Which Aberration spawn is the best default for a new player?
Fertile Lake 1, 2, or 3 is the cautious general choice because the ARK Official Community Wiki labels those options easy. The label is not a guarantee of safety.
Rank #3
Does the Portal label mean it is the safest spawn?
No. Portal is labeled easiest, but the wiki warns that it can be one of the more dangerous spawn points.
Is The Edge 1 a safe spawn?
The wiki says it can be among the safer points when you head north. That is a conditional note, not a general safety guarantee.
