To spawn a tamed dinosaur in ARK: Survival Ascended, authenticate as an administrator and run GMSummon "<BlueprintPath>" <level>. For example: GMSummon "Rex_Character_BP_C" 150. Use Summon instead when you want a wild creature. Blueprint names must be quoted, and every command should be tested on your own server or in a disposable single-player session because no official command reference is published for this syntax and third-party guides may differ.

What you need before running a spawn command
Admin spawning is a server-side operation. In multiplayer, you must first authenticate with the server’s admin password. Open the console, enter EnableCheats <admin password>, and submit it before running the spawn command. This authentication may not persist after you disconnect, so reconnecting can require entering the password again.
Console access depends on your platform and server configuration. PC uses Tab. Button combinations for Xbox and PlayStation 5 are also described, but the exact combinations were not independently verified. If the console does not appear, check your platform’s keyboard/controller binding and whether the server has enabled console commands.

- Have the exact admin password for the server.
- Know whether you want a tamed or wild result.
- Use the creature’s full blueprint path or a supported short ID.
- Run the first test in a private server or single-player world so a syntax error cannot disrupt other players.

Third-party guides describe the command forms above, and they should be treated as version-sensitive. A command that worked on an earlier build may change after a game or server update.
Spawn a tamed dinosaur with GMSummon
GMSummon is the recommended form when the objective is an immediately tamed creature. Its basic syntax is:

The blueprint name goes inside quotation marks, followed by a space and the level number. For a Rex at level 150, enter:
GMSummon "Rex_Character_BP_C" 150
- Open the admin console.
- On a multiplayer server, enter
EnableCheats <admin password>and submit it. - Enter the complete
GMSummoncommand, including quotation marks around the blueprint. - Submit the command while standing in a location with enough room for the creature to appear.
- Check that the spawned dinosaur is present and that its ownership/tame state is what you expected before repeating the command.
Use the creature’s actual blueprint path in place of the Rex example. Do not assume that a display name, a lower-case nickname or an item identifier will work as a blueprint. If the game returns no creature, first verify spelling and punctuation, then test the same command in an empty area.

Why the quotation marks matter
One guide specifically warns that an unquoted blueprint can fall back to Summon. That can produce a wild dinosaur when you intended a tamed one, so quote the path exactly: GMSummon "Rex_Character_BP_C" 150, not GMSummon Rex_Character_BP_C 150.
Spawn a wild dinosaur with Summon
Use Summon when you want a wild creature rather than an instant tame. The syntax is:
Summon "<BlueprintPath>"
For example:
Summon "Rex_Character_BP_C"
This places the creature at the player’s location and leaves it wild. You can then handle it through normal gameplay or use a separate taming command if that is appropriate for your test. Because the command has no level argument in this form, it is not the right choice when you need a specific level at spawn time. If you need a guaranteed tamed result and a chosen level, return to GMSummon.
Use SDF when a short creature ID is available
SDF is described as a simpler alternative to a full blueprint path. The form is:

SDF <dinoID> <level>
Replace <dinoID> with the supported short identifier for the creature and provide the desired level. No complete, authoritative ID list or guarantee of the tame state for every creature is established, so do not treat an ID copied from an older list as universally valid in ASA. If an SDF attempt fails, use the creature’s full blueprint with GMSummon instead; that makes a typo easier to identify and keeps the intended tame result explicit.
Tame a creature that already exists
Spawning is not always necessary. If the dinosaur is already in front of you, the commands are:
ForceTame
ForceTame targets the creature under your crosshair and tames it immediately. Aim directly at the dinosaur before submitting the command. This is useful when you have already spawned a wild test subject with Summon.
DoTame
DoTame targets an eligible conscious creature in front of you. Keep the target close and visible. An unconscious, dead or otherwise ineligible creature may not respond, so use ForceTame only when you deliberately want the more direct crosshair-based operation.

Both commands affect an existing target rather than creating a new animal. If you see duplicate creatures after using them, check whether you ran a spawn command as well as a tame command.
How level values behave
For GMSummon and SDF, the number after the blueprint or ID is the level you request. No reliable formula for the final level after spawning and taming is established.

One guide claims that ASA can add a taming bonus, suggesting that entering approximately 100 could produce a level-150 tame. That behavior was not confirmed, so treat the typed number as a requested spawn level, not a promise about the final displayed level. Record the result in your own test world before using a command for an event, breeding plan or progression server.
Why the older “spawndino” form is risky in ASA
Older references commonly show a five-argument command written as:

CheatSpawnDino <Blueprint> <Spawn Distance> <Y Offset> <Z Offset> <Level>
That form is from an earlier game version. It is not confirmed as a working ARK: Survival Ascended command. Do not publish it in a server rulebook or rely on it for a live event without testing the exact build you run. For an ASA admin who needs a tamed creature, start with GMSummon; for a wild one, start with Summon.
Troubleshooting a failed or incorrect spawn
The console rejects the command or nothing happens
- Authenticate again with
EnableCheats <admin password>. Multiplayer authentication may need to be repeated after reconnecting. - Check that you opened the actual admin console, not a chat box or ordinary text field.
- Retype the command manually and remove smart quotes copied from a web page. The required characters are ordinary quotation marks.
- Verify every underscore, suffix and capital letter in the blueprint path. A display name is not necessarily a blueprint name.
- Test with a known, simple creature command in a clear area to separate a console problem from a blueprint problem.
The dinosaur is wild instead of tamed
Confirm that you used GMSummon, not Summon. Also check that the blueprint is enclosed in quotation marks. An unquoted name may fall back to the wild-spawn behavior.

Confirm that the level argument is present and numeric. Then account for the unverified taming-bonus claim: the number entered may not equal the final level displayed after the game applies its own rules. Repeat the test on the same ASA build and record both the entered value and the final value.
The animal appears inside terrain or another structure
Move to an open location before running the command. Spawn placement is relative to the player, so a cramped base, cliff edge or waterline can make a successful spawn look like a failed one or leave the creature trapped.
SDF works inconsistently
Short IDs are less self-explanatory than full blueprint paths and no definitive ID catalogue is available. Switch to the full blueprint form with GMSummon when you need a reproducible result.
A safe testing workflow for admins
- Copy your server settings or create a temporary private world.
- Write down the ASA build and platform, since command behavior can change with patches.
- Open the console and authenticate with the current admin password.
- Run one
GMSummoncommand in an open area and note the creature’s tame state and final level. - Run one
Summoncommand separately if you also need to verify wild spawning. - Test
ForceTameorDoTameonly on a disposable creature. - Delete unwanted test creatures and save the world only after confirming the intended result.
Keep the admin password private and limit console access to trusted administrators. A mistyped spawn command can create creatures in a protected base, block paths or alter a progression-focused server, so avoid experimenting during an active player event.

What is confirmed—and what is not
The practical distinction is clear: use GMSummon for a tamed spawn, Summon for a wild spawn, quote the blueprint and include a level where the syntax calls for one, and authenticate with EnableCheats on multiplayer. The exact console combinations for Xbox and PlayStation 5, the final-level bonus claim, and the older CheatSpawnDino form remain unverified for ASA. No official Studio Wildcard command reference is published for these commands, so verify them after patches instead of assuming that an older list remains current.
