Start Arma Reforger by completing the built-in tutorial, configuring controls and audio, practicing a single-player scenario, and then joining an official or beginner-friendly community server. If you plan to run games for others, begin with a tested vanilla configuration, document every add-on and dependency, and only then move to a dedicated server and administrative controls.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Arma Reforger servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
Your first session: the safest learning order
Arma Reforger is a communication-heavy military sandbox rather than a run-and-gun shooter. You will spend time reading a map, identifying friend and foe, moving deliberately, following a squad plan and waiting for useful information. A short practice session teaches more than immediately joining a crowded, heavily modded event.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Complete the tutorial. From the main menu, open Play > Tutorial. You may need to scroll through the entries to find it. Learn movement, stance changes, weapon handling, map use, interaction prompts and basic communication before entering multiplayer.
- Configure controls and audio. Open Main Menu > Settings > Controls. Check movement, lean, stance, weapon manipulation, inventory, map, push-to-talk and radio controls. Set audio so voice chat, radio effects and game sounds are distinct; being able to hear a callout is as important as aiming.
- Run a single-player scenario. Use a solo scenario to practice navigation, resupply, reviving or respawning rules and the pace of combat. Try moving between cover, checking your map before crossing open ground and communicating your position aloud even when no one else is listening.
- Join a suitable server. Open the Multiplayer tile and choose an official server or a community server whose description indicates beginner-friendly rules. Read the server name, scenario, required mods and conduct rules before joining.
This sequence reduces the most common first-session problems: unfamiliar controls, joining a server with incompatible mods, and mistaking a coordinated objective game for a conventional deathmatch.
What Arma Reforger is built around
Arma Reforger supports single-player, cooperative and competitive multiplayer play. Its core experience is organized around shared objectives, communication and a battlefield that changes as players capture, defend and resupply positions. Bohemia Interactive presents Conflict as a central battle mode, while Game Master provides tools to create and run scenarios for other players.

The game also includes a Workshop and an Enfusion-based creator ecosystem. Workshop items can add missions, assets, systems and other features. That flexibility means two servers can feel radically different: one may be close to the unmodified game, while another may require a large, carefully ordered collection of community content.
No authoritative universal player-count figure is established here. Server populations vary by platform, region, time and event, so use the live server browser rather than relying on a fixed number when deciding where to play.

Choosing a mode
Use the following comparison to decide where your first hours should go. A community server can impose its own rules, culture and required mod set, so its description is part of the mode selection.
| Mode or activity | Teamwork and objectives | Persistence and control | Mod considerations | Best starting use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Single-player scenario | You control your own pace and can learn without coordinating with strangers. | Scenario rules determine objectives; there is no public-server culture to learn. | Vanilla scenarios avoid compatibility issues; downloaded scenarios may require dependencies. | Practice controls, navigation and combat fundamentals. |
| Co-op multiplayer | Players work together against scenario threats or shared objectives. | The host or scenario controls the flow; the session may end when the host leaves. | Every participant must have the required content for that session. | Learn radio discipline and squad movement with friends. |
| Conflict | Teams contest territory and logistics, making map reading and coordinated movement central. | Objectives evolve during the battle; the server’s rules determine how progress is handled. | Official servers may be straightforward; community Conflict servers can add extensive mod sets. | Experience the main combined-arms loop after the tutorial. |
| Game Master | A player creates situations, places entities and directs an event for others. | The Game Master has scenario-level control; server administrators still control server settings and access. | Placed entities and scenarios can depend on Workshop content. | Run a controlled training event or learn mission creation. |
| Community server | Teamwork, objectives and etiquette are defined by the operator. | Rules, restarts, moderation and persistence differ by server. | Join only after checking the exact required mods and dependencies. | Find a consistent group or a themed experience. |
How to join a server without getting stuck
- Open the Multiplayer tile from the main menu.
- Browse official and community entries. Read the scenario name, description, region or platform information shown by the server browser.
- For a community server, note every required Workshop item before pressing join. A server’s rules may prohibit certain names, behaviors or communication channels.
- Start the connection and allow the game to download required content. Large or numerous mods can make the first connection take longer than a vanilla server.
- After loading, read the server’s briefing and observe how players communicate. Ask where to spawn, which squad is accepting members and what objective is active instead of immediately moving alone.
- If the game reports a missing or mismatched mod, leave the server, return to Workshop, and complete the required downloads before trying again.
Official servers are useful for learning baseline rules. Community servers can offer better structure, custom scenarios or a regular group, but their individual rules and technical requirements are not interchangeable.
Workshop mods: a reliable player workflow
Workshop content is community-created. Bohemia Interactive describes it as a way to download and activate mods that expand the game’s possibilities, not as a guarantee that every item is officially endorsed or maintained. Treat each item as software that can change after an update.

Install a scenario and its dependencies
- Open the Workshop tile and locate the scenario, asset pack or feature you want.
- Subscribe to or download the item and inspect its listed dependencies. Download every dependency, not only the scenario’s main entry.
- Wait for downloads to finish. If the mod manager retries or appears stalled, restart the game and allow it to resume.
- Open the scenario list and confirm that the new playable content is visible. A successful download does not always mean the item is activated or compatible with the current game build.
- When using Game Master, use the Entity Browser’s modded-asset filter to check whether the expected objects are available.
Keep a small known-good set
For troubleshooting, maintain a minimal collection of mods that you know works together. Add one new item at a time, launch a test session, and record the result. This isolates a faulty dependency far faster than changing ten items simultaneously.

Understand the server’s shared requirement
Players on the same server must use the server’s required mod set. If one participant has an outdated version, a missing dependency or an extra incompatible package, the connection can fail or the scenario can load without expected assets. Administrators should publish exact Workshop IDs and versions, and players should remove or update stale copies rather than guessing which item is responsible.
Hardware, operating system and platform checks
Steam’s published figures from 2023 list the following PC requirements. They are store-listed requirements, not a promise of a particular frame rate in every scenario; dense battles, visibility settings and mods can change performance.
| Category | Published figure | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | 64-bit Windows 10 | Steam listing; requirements can change with updates. |
| Graphics API | DirectX 12 | Steam listing. |
| Minimum memory | 8 GB RAM | Valve/Steam, 2023. |
| Recommended memory | 16 GB RAM | Valve/Steam, 2023. |
| Minimum storage | 20 GB available space | Valve/Steam, 2023; updates and Workshop content can require additional room. |
| Recommended storage | 25 GB available space | Valve/Steam, 2023; a large mod library may require more. |
| Minimum graphics class | GeForce GTX 1650 Super or Radeon RX 5300 class | Steam listing. |
| Recommended CPU tier | Intel Core i7-6700 or equivalent | Steam listing; actual performance depends on the scenario and settings. |
Bohemia Interactive also supports Xbox and PlayStation 5. Those versions support mods, but storage capacity and performance limits can differ from PC. Treat console behavior, available storage and current requirements as update-sensitive rather than assuming PC instructions transfer unchanged.
Hosting a quick game for friends
The in-game host flow creates a player-hosted server. It is the fastest option for a private session, a short co-op game, experimenting with AI opponents or testing a mod before committing to a permanent setup. Because the host is also a player, availability and session continuity depend on that person’s game and connection.

- Open the multiplayer hosting option from the game’s host flow.
- Choose the scenario or world and select the platform options appropriate for your group.
- Set a clear server name and any available access or gameplay settings.
- Start with the unmodified configuration. Confirm that friends can join and complete the scenario before adding Workshop content.
- Add a single mod or dependency group, restart if required, and test again.
- Tell participants the exact scenario and mod list before the next session so they can download content in advance.
A player-hosted session is not the right choice when the group needs an always-on world, scheduled restarts, remote administration or a larger public community. Those needs point to a dedicated server.
Dedicated servers for persistent communities
A dedicated server runs separately from an individual player’s game. The official hosting documentation describes it as the appropriate model for persistent availability, scripted restarts, remote administration and larger communities. Bohemia Interactive provides dedicated-server tools and supports local or third-party hosting.
Dedicated configuration covers the scenario or world, add-ons, mods and server parameters. Exact file names and launch details can vary by platform and documentation revision, so use the current official hosting instructions for your installation rather than copying an old command line.
Build the configuration in stages
- Select the scenario and platform. Decide whether the server is for PC, console-compatible play or a restricted platform group, then choose a scenario that fits that audience.
- Set identity and rules. Use a readable server name, state the intended play style and publish conduct, communication and moderation rules.
- Prove the vanilla build. Start without Workshop additions. Join from a clean client and verify loading, spawning, objectives, saving or persistence behavior and ordinary disconnects.
- Add content incrementally. Introduce one mod or a clearly documented dependency group at a time. Record Workshop IDs, versions and the reason each item is required.
- Test a clean client. Have someone who does not already possess your development cache join. This exposes missing dependencies and permissions that an administrator’s machine can hide.
- Automate and protect. If you need scheduled restarts or remote administration, implement them only after the basic configuration is stable. Store the administrator password outside public announcements.
- Keep rollback copies. Before a game or mod update, copy the working configuration. If the update breaks loading, restore the known-good version while you investigate.
Becoming and staying an administrator
Administrative access is separate from being the Game Master. A Game Master controls the scenario experience during a session; an administrator controls server access and server-level operation. Give administrative credentials only to people who need them.
Log in in-game
The documented administrator command is #login [the admin password]. Replace the bracketed text with the password configured for the server. Never paste the real password into a public rule post, stream overlay or shared screenshot.

Maintain an admin list
The admin reference documents admin-list settings. Keep that list short, review it when staff roles change and remove former administrators promptly. Use separate accounts or permissions where your operating setup allows it, and log who changed the configuration and when.
Use a repeatable change process
- Record the current scenario, add-ons, mods, Workshop IDs and versions before changing anything.
- Make one meaningful change at a time and test a clean client.
- Announce maintenance windows and expected restarts to the community.
- Keep a rollback copy that was actually tested, not merely archived.
- Document common recovery actions so another administrator can restore service without guessing.
Common failures and practical fixes
The tutorial is hard to find
Scroll through the entries under Play > Tutorial. The tutorial is available from that main-menu path even when it is not immediately visible in the list.
A server refuses the connection because of mods
Read the server’s required list, download every dependency, and restart if the mod manager needs to retry. Confirm the scenario appears in your scenario list. If the error persists, unsubscribe from or disable stale copies, then reinstall the exact required set. Ask the server operator for the current Workshop IDs rather than mixing similarly named items.
The scenario loads but assets are missing
Check that the asset dependency is active, not merely downloaded. In Game Master, enable the modded-asset filter in the Entity Browser. If the item remains absent, test the dependency by itself and verify that the server and clients use matching versions.
Friends cannot join a hosted session
First test the unmodified session. Confirm everyone is on the same platform-compatible build and that the host’s session is visible. Add mods only after a clean join succeeds; a failed mod dependency can look like a general hosting problem.
Best Value
- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
An update breaks a dedicated server
Stop changing multiple variables. Restore the last known-good configuration copy, test the vanilla scenario, then reintroduce mods one at a time. Compare the recorded Workshop IDs and versions with the current server requirements before reopening the public listing.
New players are lost in a live battle
Join a squad, state that you are learning, follow the squad leader’s route and keep the map open frequently. Ask before taking a vehicle or leaving an objective. Deliberate movement and clear callouts are more valuable than chasing isolated fights.
Communication and map habits that pay off immediately
- Announce location before action. Give a landmark, direction or objective name before reporting contact.
- Confirm orders. Repeat a short instruction when radio traffic is busy so the leader knows it was understood.
- Use the map as a planning tool. Check friendly positions, objective status and likely approach routes before moving.
- Stay with the task. A coordinated defense or supply run can matter more than an individual elimination.
- Respect server culture. Community operators may restrict voice channels, vehicles, uniforms or Game Master interaction. Follow the posted rules.
A practical 30-minute onboarding plan
- Minutes 0–10: Complete the tutorial segment that covers movement, stance, weapons and interaction.
- Minutes 10–15: Set controls, push-to-talk and audio levels from Main Menu > Settings > Controls and the relevant audio menus.
- Minutes 15–22: Play a single-player scenario. Practice opening the map, moving between cover and identifying the active objective.
- Minutes 22–30: Join an official or clearly beginner-friendly server, join a squad and follow its communication style. Do not add mods until you understand the vanilla loop.
For an administrator, use the same plan with one additional test: create a player-hosted vanilla session, join it from a clean client, then document the configuration before experimenting with Workshop content.
Bottom line for players and admins
New players should learn the tutorial and controls, practice alone, and enter multiplayer through a server whose rules and mod requirements they understand. Administrators should prove a vanilla server first, add content incrementally, publish exact dependencies, protect the administrator password and preserve a tested rollback configuration. That discipline keeps Arma Reforger’s flexible scenarios playable instead of turning every connection problem into a mystery.
