Armillo is worth a look if you enjoy momentum-driven movement, route-finding, collectibles, and secrets more than conventional jump-first platforming. Its rolling-and-boosting core and varied 3D levels earned positive 2014 Wii U reviews, while optional 2D stages drew more criticism for their feel and control. A later Steam release gives PC players another way to play, but the old Wii U reviews should not be treated as tests of the PC version.
What kind of game is Armillo?
Developed by Fuzzy Wuzzy Games, Armillo is an action-puzzle platformer built around rolling. Players use movement and a boost to navigate stages and fight, choosing routes through obstacles while collecting items and looking for secrets. Its main stages are 3D; hidden or secret 2D stages add a different kind of platforming challenge.
The appeal is less about mastering a conventional jump sequence and more about carrying movement through a space, deciding where to go, and returning to levels for missed extras. Reviews also highlight upgrades and replay goals, so the game offers more for players who like exploring beyond the main route.
What reviewers liked—and what they didn’t
Rolling, routes, and level variety
Nintendo World Report praised how the rolling and boost mechanics support new ideas as the game progresses. Destructoid described the stages as corridor-focused but still exploratory, with route choices that can require some thought. Both perspectives point to a game whose strongest identity comes from navigating with momentum rather than simply moving from platform to platform.

- Motion Controls: The built-in accelerometer and gyroscope allow for intuitive motion controls
- Camera : Can be used for games and also for video chat between Wii U Consoles
- Built In Amiibo Reader: Simply tap your Amiibo to the Near-Field Communication (NFC) Scanner
The extra content also contributes to its replay appeal. Collectibles, upgrades, hidden areas, and alternate 2D stages give completion-minded players reasons to revisit levels. Those additions can be a draw if you enjoy searching for everything; they mean more effort for anyone aiming to complete the game fully.
2D stages and technical roughness
The 2D sections are the clearest recurring caveat. Nintendo World Report found them less fluid than the 3D levels, and GameFAQs also discussed the feel of the controls. A change of perspective adds variety, but it may not be the part of Armillo that works best for every player.

- Four USB 2.0 connector slots are included. The new console is backward compatible with Wii games and Wii accessories.
Nintendo World Report noted occasional choppiness, while GameFAQs mentioned occasional frame-rate issues. These are observations in reviews, not performance measurements, and they should not be generalized to every platform or current build.
What did the reviews score Armillo?
| Outlet | Score | Context |
|---|---|---|
| Destructoid | 7.5/10 | 2014 review of the Wii U game |
| Nintendo World Report | 8/10 | 2014 review of the Wii U game |
Those scores are individual critics’ judgments, not a combined rating. Aaron R. Brown of Nintendo World Report wrote that “The simplistic two-button control scheme makes it a breeze to jump right in.” That is Brown’s review-era assessment of the Wii U version, not a universal claim about accessibility.

Which versions are these reviews about?
The contemporary reviews and their scores concern the Wii U eShop release. Steam lists a later PC release dated July 3, 2020. Platform-specific review observations should stay attached to the version reviewed: the cited comments about choppiness and 2D control do not establish how every version performs.
Steam’s listing showed 89% positive from 244 user reviews when captured on October 7, 2026, with an all-time “Very Positive” label. That is a changing Steam user-review snapshot—not a critic score, a cross-platform average, or a measure of sales or player count. Who is Armillo for?
- Good fit: Players who like rolling-based movement, momentum, route choices, secrets, and collectible-driven replay.
- Potential mismatch: Players who want consistently precise, conventional platforming; the 2D stages received more criticism for control and feel.
- Consider your polish tolerance: Reviewers reported occasional choppiness or frame-rate issues, but those reports are not a universal assessment of all versions.
- Completion-minded players: Hidden content, upgrades, and collectibles add reasons to return, along with extra time and effort if you want to find everything.
Is Armillo worth your time?
For players intrigued by a platformer organized around rolling, boosting, and exploring, the Wii U reviews suggest a distinctive game with worthwhile replay extras. The main reservation is that the bonus 2D sections may feel less polished than the 3D core. PC players should consult the live Steam listing for current platform-specific user feedback rather than assuming the 2014 Wii U critiques describe the PC release.
