Short answer: A PC that only meets the minimum listing may start Ashes of the Singularity II, but the sensible target for large battles is Steam’s recommended tier: a Ryzen 5 5600X or Core i5-11600K-class processor, a Radeon RX 6750 XT or GeForce RTX 3070-class graphics card, 16GB of memory, DirectX 12, Windows 10 or 11 64-bit, and an SSD with at least 50GB free. How to check whether your current PC qualifies
Check the machine you actually plan to use rather than relying on a model name from an old sales page. The following sequence identifies the usual blockers without installing the game.
- Confirm Windows: Press
Windows key + R, enterwinver, and verify that the edition is Windows 10 or Windows 11 and that the installation is 64-bit. In Windows 11, open Settings > System > About; in Windows 10, the same page appears under Settings > System > About. - Record the processor and memory: Open Task Manager > Performance > CPU and Memory. Compare the processor model with the minimum and recommended classes in the table, and note whether installed memory is 8GB or 16GB or more.
- Check the graphics card and VRAM: In Task Manager > Performance > GPU, record the exact GPU model and dedicated memory. You can also run
dxdiagand inspect the Display tab. Integrated graphics should not be assumed equivalent to a discrete card simply because the CPU has a similar name. - Verify DirectX and drivers: Run
dxdiagand confirm DirectX 12 is available. Install the latest stable driver offered for your GPU before launch; a driver update cannot turn an underpowered card into a recommended-tier card, but it can prevent avoidable compatibility problems. - Check the installation drive: In Settings > System > Storage or File Explorer, make sure the destination has at least 50GB free. In Task Manager > Performance > Disk, identify whether that drive is an SSD or HDD.
- Classify the result: A machine below any minimum row is outside the published target. A machine that meets minimum but falls well short of recommended should be treated as a compromise configuration. A system at or above the recommended rows is the best evidence available before launch, but it still is not an FPS guarantee.
What the specifications tell you about this RTS
Why the processor matters
Ashes of the Singularity II is built around very large real-time battles. Stardock and developer Oxide Games describe continent-scale battlefields and thousands of units. In an RTS, the processor has to track orders, pathing, combat state and the simulation while also feeding the renderer. That makes the CPU particularly important during late-game armies and multiplayer turns, even when the average graphics load appears manageable.
The minimum processors are older six-core-era parts, while the recommended examples are newer chips with substantially stronger per-core and overall throughput. A faster processor will not compensate for a graphics card below the minimum, but a strong graphics card paired with an aging CPU can still produce slow simulation or uneven frame delivery in crowded engagements.

Why the graphics card matters
The jump from the minimum card examples to the recommended examples is large. It is intended to provide more rendering headroom for effects, terrain and dense formations. The listing names both performance and VRAM tiers, so compare the complete card rather than buying on memory capacity alone: two cards with 8GB can perform very differently.
Why memory capacity matters
Eight gigabytes is the listed floor for system RAM. Windows, voice chat, browsers and recording tools consume part of that budget before the game starts. Sixteen gigabytes is therefore the practical target for a dedicated gaming PC, particularly if you multitask or use large maps and multiplayer sessions. Capacity is not the same as speed; the listing does not publish a required memory frequency or timing.

The order below follows the size of the published requirement gap. It is guidance from those specifications, not a benchmark-derived ranking.

1. Bring the graphics card up to the recommended class
If your current GPU is below the minimum examples, replacing it is the first priority because the machine is outside the stated target. If it already clears minimum but is far below the recommended class, a GPU upgrade is the most direct way to add rendering headroom. Choose a card with at least the recommended VRAM class, then confirm that your power supply, case clearance and power connectors support it. Retail prices and stock change constantly, so check current compatibility and pricing rather than relying on an old list price.

2. Move from 8GB to 16GB of system RAM
Install a matched 16GB kit whenever possible, following the motherboard’s approved slots and memory-generation limits. Mixing an old module with a new one can force lower speeds or create stability problems. Close unnecessary launchers and browsers while testing, but do not treat that as a substitute for the recommended capacity if the system is regularly paging to disk.
3. Address the processor and platform
Use the recommended CPU class as a reference, not as a drop-in promise. A processor upgrade may require a new motherboard, BIOS support, cooler or memory standard. Check the board’s supported-CPU list and firmware notes before ordering. If the existing platform cannot accept a modern processor, price the CPU, board and any required memory together; a partial upgrade can cost more and deliver less than a balanced replacement.

4. Install the game on an SSD
An SSD is listed as recommended, with no separate capacity beyond the 50GB free-space requirement. A SATA SSD can remove the mechanical seek delays of an HDD, while an NVMe drive may offer faster transfers on a compatible motherboard. Leave additional free space for Windows updates and game patches. A 1TB NVMe SSD is a practical capacity anchor for a new build, but compatibility and current pricing must be checked for the specific system.

There is no verified universal upgrade cost because hardware prices, stock and regional taxes vary. A whole-PC replacement becomes easier to justify when the processor, board, memory and power supply all need replacement; keeping a sound case, storage drive or power supply can make a component upgrade more economical when the platform is otherwise current.

SSD, HDD and the 50GB requirement
The published capacity requirement is 50GB free, not 50GB of total drive capacity. Leave room beyond that figure so Windows and post-launch patches do not fill the volume. Steam can install to an HDD if the game accepts it, but the developer’s listing recommends an SSD. Expect an SSD to be the safer choice for shorter load times and less storage-related hitching; no official test quantifies the difference, and an SSD does not raise the GPU’s rendering performance.
“Smoothly” has no official FPS definition yet
Neither Steam’s listing nor the cited launch announcements supplies an FPS target, tested resolution, graphics preset, frame-time chart or CPU/GPU benchmark. Consequently, nobody can honestly convert the recommended row into a guaranteed 60 FPS, 120 FPS or any other number. Monitor resolution and refresh rate also change the workload.
After release, use a repeatable test: choose a fixed resolution and preset, play a representative large battle, and record average and low frame rates, frame times, GPU utilization, CPU utilization and memory use. Compare results only when the game version, map, unit count and settings match. The absence of pre-release numbers is an evidence limitation, not proof that the game will run poorly.
Release context and features that affect your decision
Stardock announced the November 10, 2026 launch after a Steam Next Fest demo and a September public playtest. The announced package includes a campaign, skirmish, competitive multiplayer and cooperative multiplayer. The campaign is set in 2031 and includes three playable factions: the Substrate, the Post-Human Coalition and a human faction added for this sequel. The announcements also describe larger battles and advanced units.
Those modes can stress a system differently. A short skirmish may not reproduce the simulation load of a long campaign or a multiplayer match with several players. Treat the recommended hardware as a safer all-round target rather than tailoring a build to one mode.
Pre-launch troubleshooting checklist
- Update Windows and install the current stable GPU driver.
- Confirm the game is installed on the intended SSD and that more than the bare capacity requirement remains free.
- Close overlays, capture tools and background applications when diagnosing stutter, then re-enable them one at a time.
- Check CPU and GPU temperatures under load; thermal throttling can make a qualifying PC behave like a slower one.
- Use
dxdiagto save a diagnostic report if support requests system details. - If the PC is below a minimum requirement, upgrade that component before troubleshooting graphics settings; software tweaks cannot replace missing hardware capability.
Because the release is still in the future at the time of the current Steam listing, post-launch patches may alter performance or compatibility. Recheck the official requirements and patch notes after November 10, 2026 before making a second upgrade decision.
