Aspyr says the outfits added to Tomb Raider I-III Remastered in its March 2026 Challenge Mode update were made by its artists, not generated with AI. Did Aspyr use AI for the new Tomb Raider outfits?
Aspyr denied using AI-generated assets in the outfits. In a March 20, 2026 community message, the company said: “The outfits in the update were created by our team of artists; no AI generated assets were used in the update.” Aspyr’s statement is the publisher’s account, not an independent audit of the assets or their production process. The sources reviewed do not identify who personally made each outfit or document the art pipeline.
Why did players question the outfits?
Players criticized the outfits’ quality and pointed to odd symbols and details, prompting speculation about AI. Nintendo Life reported that Giovanni Lucca, lead artist on the earlier remasters, said he had not been involved in the patch’s art direction; it also reported that none of the original developers were involved. That context may help explain the concern, but does not establish that AI was used.
PC Gamer reported that some replies remained unconvinced after Aspyr’s denial. That is a reported reaction, not evidence of a consensus: the sources reviewed provide no representative poll or statistic about players’ views.

What did Aspyr acknowledge, and what did it patch?
Aspyr acknowledged texture issues and technical bugs in its March 20 message, saying its “top priority is the delivery of a patch that will fix the texture issues and technical bugs.” Its later Challenge Mode notes listed a series of outfit and game fixes:

Patch 4 was the latest official Challenge Mode update located in Aspyr’s support section as of October 7, 2026. Patch notes report changes the publisher says it made; they do not show that every issue is resolved for every player.

What the dispute does—and does not—establish
- Aspyr’s position is explicit: it says its artists made the outfits and that no AI-generated assets were used.
- Players’ concerns followed criticism of the designs and unusual details, alongside reports that the original remaster lead artist and original developers were not involved in the patch.
- Aspyr’s patch notes confirm that it listed outfit texture, clipping, and smoothing fixes. Those technical issues are separate from the question of whether AI was used.
- The evidence available here does not independently verify either the assets’ production process or that all technical problems have been fixed.
The allegation concerns outfits in the free Challenge Mode update for Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, not the separate AI voiceover dispute associated with Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered. Aspyr describes Challenge Mode as a free update on its official game page.
