Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a ground-up remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, released on July 9, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The most important adjustment for returning players is to treat it as a new ruleset: combat rewards timing, stealth depends on visibility and positioning, parkour offers more deliberate control, and the Jackdaw has additional weapons and threat systems.
This guide explains how to approach those systems without relying on 2013 button habits or undocumented “best” builds. It also covers offline play, PC requirements, editions, new story content, and practical preparation for each platform.

What is different in Black Flag Resynced?
Ubisoft describes Resynced as a remake rebuilt from the ground up in the latest Anvil Engine, using the original Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag as its foundation. Edward Kenway remains the playable pirate protagonist during the Golden Age of Piracy, caught between the Assassin–Templar conflict. The remake is therefore familiar in setting and character, but its feature list is not a promise that every old tactic or input works unchanged. Read the current on-screen prompts and test each system in a safe situation before committing to an old-game routine.
The official launch guide specifically calls out revised combat, stealth, parkour, naval play, and additional narrative material. Those changes are the basis for the practical advice below. Ubisoft’s launch guide is the reference for the feature descriptions.

Verify the platform and current control map
Resynced is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through the Ubisoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. Ubisoft also lists Steam Deck verification. Controller prompts and keyboard bindings can differ by platform, so open the in-game Controls or Controller menu before attempting advanced movement or combat. The safest rule is to learn the action name shown by the game rather than memorizing a button from another platform or from the 2013 release.
Plan your connection and storage
The campaign can be played offline after a one-time internet connection downloads the game. Live Animus Hub features—including Store, Anomalies, Projects, and Vault—require an internet connection. If you intend to use those features, complete the initial sign-in and download while connected rather than discovering the limitation after going offline.
On PC, Ubisoft lists 65 GB of SSD storage. The minimum listing specifies Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11, 16 GB of dual-channel RAM, and a GTX 1660, RX 5500 XT, or Intel Arc A580; recommended and higher presets use stronger graphics hardware. Resolution-specific requirements can change how much headroom you need, so use the official PC store listing when checking your exact configuration.

PS5 offers Performance at 60 frames per second, Fidelity at 30 frames per second, and Balanced at 40 frames per second when connected to a 120 Hz display. It also supports DualSense feedback and faster SSD loading. Performance is the straightforward choice for players who value responsive parries and traversal; Fidelity favors image quality; Balanced is only relevant if your display supports the required 120 Hz mode. These options are PS5-specific and should not be assumed to exist on Xbox or PC.

Combat: win by reading openings, not repeating old combos
Ubisoft describes the remake’s direction as “Parry-based fighting with deeper tactics that focus on timing and reactivity.” That sentence is more useful than any fixed combo list: you are expected to watch what an enemy is doing, respond to an opening, and vary your tools. A parry is not merely a defensive pause before the same attack every time; it creates a decision point.
A reliable combat loop
- Watch the opponent’s commitment. Keep your attention on the enemy who is actually entering an attack instead of mashing through a group.
- Parry on reaction. Use the current on-screen prompt and timing window. Do not assume the original game’s timing is identical.
- Confirm the result. After a successful defense, identify whether the enemy is staggered, exposed, or still protected before choosing your follow-up.
- Change tools when the situation changes. Pistols, environmental opportunities, and takedowns serve different purposes. Experiment in small encounters so you learn what each opening permits.
- Reposition after a takedown. A brutal takedown can remove one threat, but it does not make the rest of the group harmless. Move your camera and identify the next attacker immediately.
Use gun-kata and quick-fire pistols as part of a chain
The launch feature list names gun-kata and quick-fire pistol combos. Treat these as links in a sequence rather than a universal “delete” button. A practical experiment is to test a pistol response after a parry, then try the same tool while two enemies are approaching. If the result leaves you exposed, reserve it for a clear opening or use it to finish a staggered target. The objective is to connect defense, a controlled attack, and movement instead of standing still to repeat one animation.
Identify Demolitionists early
Demolitionists are a named enemy archetype in Resynced. When one appears, make it a priority to understand its attack pattern and spacing before the fight becomes crowded. Avoid assuming that a familiar crowd-control answer from the original game is automatically safe; look for the current warning, create room, and use the tool that the present encounter allows. If you are unsure, isolate the Demolitionist’s behavior in a low-risk encounter and learn the timing before taking on a larger group.
What not to assume
- Do not copy a 2013 button sequence without checking the current mapping.
- Do not treat a successful parry as permission to mash attacks; the next enemy may already be committing.
- Do not search for a single optimal combo when the remake’s stated emphasis is timing and reactivity.
Stealth: combine visibility, observation, and approach routes
Resynced expands stealth with crouching anywhere, an observe mode for tracking targets, light-and-shadow visibility, and dives at suitable locations. These features broaden your choices, but they do not promise universal safety. Enemy placement, sightlines, illumination, and the destination of your dive still matter.

Build a stealth approach
- Observe before moving. Use observe mode to identify targets and patrol relationships. Give yourself time to see whether a guard is stationary or about to turn.
- Read the light. Crouching is a movement option, not an invisibility switch. Compare your position with nearby lit and shadowed areas before crossing open ground.
- Choose a route with an exit. A good approach includes a fallback shadow, roof, or dive location in case the target moves.
- Use crouching anywhere deliberately. Because you are no longer restricted to traditional crouch surfaces, test low cover and open terrain separately. A position that looks safe may still be exposed to a patrol’s angle.
- Dive only where the environment supports it. The feature is intended for seafront approaches and underwater exploration; verify the landing or swimming space before committing.
When stealth breaks
If an enemy spots you, do not automatically restart or charge. Break the line of sight, move into a darker route, and use observe mode again once the situation permits. If the area cannot be recovered safely, switch to the combat principles above: isolate the most dangerous attacker, parry on reaction, and avoid standing in the center of a group.
Parkour: use the new control options for deliberate movement
The remake lists manual jump, side ejects, height-gaining back ejects, and faster interrupts. Together, these options make traversal less dependent on a single automatic path.
What each option is for
- Manual jump: gives you finer control over when Edward leaves a surface, useful when an automatic leap would send you toward the wrong ledge.
- Side eject: helps redirect movement into a nearby lateral route when a straight climb is blocked or unsafe.
- Height-gaining back eject: lets you use a rearward surface to gain elevation rather than merely retreating.
- Faster interrupts: allow you to stop or change a move sooner when the destination, guard position, or camera angle changes.
Because no universal button assignments are established, map these actions through your current platform’s control screen. Practice each one away from a mission objective: jump between safe surfaces, try a side eject into a known landing, then interrupt a climb before a guard notices you. Once you know the timing, the same actions become tools for infiltration and escape rather than emergency guesses.
The Jackdaw: learn the expanded naval toolkit
Naval combat adds more than a new weapon icon. Ubisoft lists shrapnel barrels, 8-pounder cannons, secondary firing modes, Ram Dash, heated shot, faction-specific ship tactics, Pirate Hunters, and the returning Naval Wanted System.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Match the weapon to the target and distance
Use the Jackdaw’s different firing modes as situational tools. Shrapnel barrels and 8-pounder cannons are not interchangeable simply because both damage ships. Test their effective range, firing angle, and recovery in a low-risk encounter, then select the option that fits the enemy’s position. Heated shot is another deliberate choice: learn when its effect is worth the setup instead of firing it whenever it is available.
Use Ram Dash to control the engagement
Ram Dash gives you an additional way to change distance and attack angle. Approach with an exit plan: a successful impact is less useful if it leaves the Jackdaw exposed to a second ship’s broadside. Before committing, identify which enemy can punish your new position and whether a follow-up firing mode is ready.
Respect factions and notoriety
Enemy factions use different tactics, so scout the group rather than treating every ship as the same damage sponge. High notoriety attracts Pirate Hunters, while the Naval Wanted System returns from the original concept. If hunters begin appearing, decide whether the current objective justifies the risk or whether reducing exposure is the better progression choice. The important feedback loop is clear: aggressive naval activity changes the threats that find you.
Progress the Fleet without assuming an old unlock order
Kenway’s Fleet is integrated into Resynced. Read each available Fleet action and observe how it connects to your wider progression, but do not rely on an original-game unlock order or assumed upgrade cost. Ubisoft’s feature description confirms the integration, not a universal sequence or price list.

New story, officers, and optional content
Completion planning is broader than the original campaign. Ubisoft lists three recruitable officers with new questlines, integrated Kenway’s Fleet content, new Jackdaw pets and customization, additional shanties, and a new eight-mission chapter called A World Without Gold.
Named additions to track
- Three recruitable officers, each with a new questline.
- The Blackbeard-centered eight-mission A World Without Gold chapter.
- A Blackbeard treasure quest.
- A Stede Bonnet epilogue quest.
- Four optional Animus Rift sequences.
- Two crossover projects connected to Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
These are confirmed content categories, not a complete walkthrough. Exact unlock requirements, quest solutions, collectible coordinates, and optimal completion order are not established by the official feature list. When a quest appears, record its title and objective in your own checklist, then use the current in-game map and prompts rather than assuming an old guide’s location or trigger still applies.
Make customization serve your play style
New Jackdaw pets and customization are useful for personalizing the ship, while additional shanties reward exploration and completion. Choose cosmetic changes for preference; do not infer that a listed pet or appearance item changes combat statistics unless the game explicitly displays that effect.

Offline play and Animus Hub limitations
After the one-time connected download, the campaign works offline. Internet access is still required for live Animus Hub content such as Store, Anomalies, Projects, and Vault. If a live feature fails while offline, that behavior is expected rather than evidence that the campaign installation is damaged. Reconnect, allow the Hub to authenticate, and then retry the feature. If you only want the story, launch after the initial download and avoid treating live menus as a requirement for ordinary campaign progression.
