Plan on about 25–30 hours to finish the main story in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. A playthrough that adds some side quests, collecting and exploration usually falls somewhere around 30–50 hours, while a completion-focused run is best budgeted at roughly 50–70 hours. Those are estimates rather than an official completion-time benchmark, and the total depends heavily on how much of the open world and Resynced’s additional content you pursue.
Black Flag Resynced playtime at a glance
The most useful way to answer “How long does Black Flag Resynced take to beat?” is to separate the critical path from optional content. Different guides count “average” and “completionist” playthroughs differently, so a single number would be misleading.

| Play style | Planning estimate | What it generally includes |
|---|---|---|
| Main story | 25–30 hours | Story missions on the critical path, with limited detours |
| Story plus optional content | About 30–50 hours | Main missions, some side quests, regular exploration and selected collectibles |
| Completion-focused | About 50–70 hours | Most or all side activities, exploration, upgrades, collectibles and optional narrative material |
The ranges are intentionally broad. GamesRadar+ estimates 25–30 hours for the critical path, 30–40 hours for the main quest with some side activities, and 50–60 hours for 100 percent completion. Video Games Chronicle (VGC) gives 30 hours for the main quest, 45–50 hours for an average playthrough and 65–70 hours for completionists. Ubisoft technology director Jussi Markkanen separately described the main story as taking “maybe in 25 hours.” Taken together, these sources support the three planning bands above rather than one exact average.
How long is the main story?
A focused story run should fit into a long weekend or several evenings for most players. The 25–30-hour band assumes that you follow the campaign, complete the activities needed to progress, and do not systematically clear every island, treasure map or optional mission as soon as it appears.

- EXPANDING EDWARD’S ADVENTURE- Building on top of the original story, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced introduces exclusive new content. Familiar faces will return, with new storylines dedicated to fan-favorite characters such as Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. Unexpected allies will also cross your path, as three officers join you on your journey as part of the main narrative. More surprises await, such as new sea shanties, pets, a photo mode, and more.
Markkanen’s estimate is conditional, not a promise for every player. His full statement was: You can complete it maybe in 25 hours doing the main story
, followed by, Or you can spend hundreds of hours in the world just exploring and having fun.
The first part is useful for scheduling a story-only run; the second highlights why an open-world game cannot be reduced to a fixed campaign duration.
Your personal result can move outside the band if you play on a higher difficulty, repeat naval encounters, spend time upgrading the Jackdaw, or stop to learn systems that were familiar in the 2013 release. Conversely, skipping optional objectives and using a direct route between missions can keep the campaign close to the lower end.
What adds time beyond the critical path?
Resynced preserves the original story while adding new narrative and gameplay material. The launch overview from Ubisoft identifies several additions that can sit outside a strictly story-first route:
- Three officer questlines with new scenes and missions.
- An eight-mission, late-game Blackbeard story chapter.
- A Blackbeard treasure quest.
- A Stede Bonnet epilogue.
- Four optional Animus Rift narrative sequences.
- New sea shanties, Jackdaw pets and other gameplay changes.
Not every player will treat these additions as mandatory. Someone interested only in the central Edward Kenway narrative may leave much of them untouched; a player trying to see every new scene will add meaningful time after the campaign’s required missions. Exploration also includes travel, naval combat, hunting, treasure hunting, upgrades and repeated visits to locations, so two players can choose the same “story plus sides” label and still finish many hours apart.
What does a 30–50-hour playthrough usually mean?
The middle range describes a natural, unhurried run rather than a checklist. You follow the main story, investigate side quests when they appear, collect some useful upgrades and explore places that interest you. You might complete several officer missions or the Blackbeard material without deliberately hunting every remaining item.
This category is where published estimates diverge most. GamesRadar+ places a main-quest run with some side activities at 30–40 hours, while VGC’s 45–50-hour “average playthrough” assumes more regular collection and side-quest activity. Neither figure is a survey result or official telemetry. Use the lower part of the band if you stay mission-focused and the upper part if you routinely pause to explore.

- Collect items encountered during normal travel instead of backtracking for every one.
- Play the added narrative chapters when their locations or prompts become available.
This approach gives you a sense of the broader world and the remake’s additions without turning the game into a full completion project.

How long does it take to finish everything?
A completion-focused run is best planned as approximately 50–70 hours. GamesRadar+ estimates 50–60 hours for 100 percent, whereas VGC estimates 65–70 hours for completionists. The spread reflects different definitions of “complete”: one guide may count required collectibles and major side content, while another expects a more thorough sweep of activities and upgrades.
Completion time rises through accumulation rather than one hidden super-long chapter. You spend extra minutes sailing between islands, locating collectibles, repeating activities for resources, finishing optional questlines, buying or crafting upgrades, and revisiting areas after new abilities or equipment become available. If you insist on clearing every marker before advancing the story, travel and backtracking can push your result toward or beyond the high end of the published range.
Use a completion checklist that matches your goal
- Narrative completion: finish the main campaign, officer questlines, Blackbeard chapter, treasure quest, Stede Bonnet epilogue and Animus Rift stories.
- World completion: clear map activities, treasure hunts, naval encounters and location-based objectives.
- Collection completion: pursue remaining collectibles, sea shanties and other inventory or cosmetic items.
- Upgrade completion: fully develop the Jackdaw and any other progression systems that require repeated resource gathering.
These categories overlap, and the game’s menus may not label them exactly this way. Decide in advance whether “100 percent” means every narrative addition, every map marker or every available upgrade; that decision matters more than the difference between any two guide estimates.

IsThereAnyDeal reproduces a HowLongToBeat snapshot listing 24 hours for Main Story, 43 hours for Main + Sides, 65 hours for Completionist and 45 hours for All Styles. These figures are community-submitted aggregates, not an official Ubisoft benchmark, and they should be treated as corroborating reference points. The underlying HowLongToBeat page was not independently opened for this comparison, so the snapshot does not establish a controlled test or a statistical confidence interval.

The snapshot broadly lines up with the guide ranges: a mid-20s story figure, a low-to-mid-40s mixed run and a mid-60s completion target. It does not eliminate the reasons for variation, including how much of the new content a player counts and whether exploration is purposeful or incidental.

Does the remake have more story than the original?
Yes. Ubisoft describes Resynced as a remake of the 2013 Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag rebuilt in the Anvil engine, with visual, gameplay and story additions. The original campaign remains the foundation, but the remake adds the officer questlines, new scenes and missions, the late-game Blackbeard chapter, Blackbeard treasure content, a Stede Bonnet epilogue and optional Animus Rift narrative sequences.
Those additions explain why an original-game playtime estimate should not automatically be applied to Resynced. A player who follows only the legacy critical path may finish near the main-story estimate, while someone who treats the new arcs as part of the intended campaign experience will spend longer in the world.
Can you play the campaign offline?
Ubisoft’s official FAQ lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through the Ubisoft Store, Steam and the Epic Games Store. Steam Deck is listed as verified. The main campaign can be played offline after the initial download connection, but Animus Hub live content requires online access. Resynced has no multiplayer mode, so the playtime estimates above describe solo campaign and open-world activity.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThere is no evidence in the cited estimates of a meaningful platform-specific difference in campaign length. Hardware can affect loading, controls or comfort, but the reviewed sources do not establish that one supported platform produces a shorter or longer story.
How to plan your own playthrough
- Set your target. Choose story-only, story plus sides or completion-focused before you begin. This prevents a changing definition of “done” from making the game feel unexpectedly long.
- Decide how you treat new content. If every new Resynced chapter is part of your personal campaign, schedule time for the officer arcs, Blackbeard material, Stede Bonnet epilogue and Animus Rift sequences. If not, leave them for post-story play.
- Control travel and cleanup. Group nearby objectives and collect items during normal sailing. Constantly crossing the map for one missing collectible is one of the easiest ways to exceed a guide’s average.
- Upgrade selectively. Prioritize ship improvements that help you progress. Chasing every upgrade immediately turns routine resource gathering into a second progression track.
- Reassess after the opening hours. Once you know whether you are stopping for side activities, compare your pace with the ranges in the table rather than expecting the exact 25-hour developer estimate.
If you have a fixed deadline, reserve roughly 30 hours for the campaign and add a separate block for optional content. If your goal is to see nearly everything, a 60-hour planning budget leaves more realistic room for travel, experimentation and missed objectives than a strict 50-hour schedule.
Bottom line on Black Flag Resynced’s length
The dependable answer is 25–30 hours for the main story. Add side quests and ordinary exploration and you are more likely to land in the broad 30–50-hour middle range. A serious attempt at narrative additions, map activities, collectibles and upgrades belongs in the 50–70-hour completion range. Treat those figures as planning estimates, not guarantees: Resynced’s optional story material and open-world sailing are precisely what make one player’s “finished” different from another’s.
