The evidence available for this retrospective confirms those releases, but not the original article’s full five-game list or its ranking—so presenting five picks as verified would be misleading. Rebellion is the best-documented example: a strategy-RPG built for phones, rather than a handheld port of a mainline game.
Why this is not a verified “five best” list
The title is framed around 2020, but the available official records establish two mobile releases—not five specific games, an order of merit, or a complete catalog of what could be downloaded in every region that year. This guide therefore focuses on what can be substantiated and treats the year as historical. It is not a current download list: past release announcements do not prove that a game remains available or works on today’s devices.
Assassin’s Creed Rebellion: a mobile-first strategy-RPG
How it plays
Ubisoft announced Assassin’s Creed Rebellion for iOS and Android, with a launch date of November 21, 2018. It is a free-to-play strategy-RPG in which players build a Brotherhood and send teams of three Assassins on tactical missions. Rather than reproduce the mainline games’ real-time action, it reshapes stealth, assassination, free-running, and combat into short, turn-based missions, with headquarters management between them. Ubisoft’s development interview also describes the game’s distinctive chibi art style. Ubisoft’s launch announcement and behind-the-scenes interview explain the game’s format and design.
Setting and post-2020 content
The launch announcement places Rebellion in 15th-century Spain during the Inquisition. The game continued to receive content after 2020: in 2021, Ubisoft announced a Caribbean campaign and six new heroes, including Edward Kenway. Ubisoft’s 2021 update announcement documents that addition.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Price and current storefront evidence
Ubisoft described Rebellion as free-to-play at launch. The current United States Apple App Store listing likewise describes it as free to download and play, with optional in-app purchases, including a monthly subscription. That listing is a snapshot for one game and one region; it does not establish availability on Android, in other countries, or for other historical titles.
Assassin’s Creed Identity: a confirmed historical Android release
Assassin’s Creed Identity also had an Android release. Ubisoft stated that it supported devices running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean or later. That is a historical minimum requirement, not confirmation that Identity can still be downloaded, runs on a current Android version, or is available in a particular country’s store. Ubisoft’s Android release notice establishes the past release and requirement.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
What not to count as a 2020 game
Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade should not be added to a 2020 list. Ubisoft described it in 2023 as a mobile game in development, set in ancient China, and invited feedback and early registration. That announcement does not establish that it was released then—or that it is currently available. See Ubisoft’s Codename Jade announcement for the dated project description.

“Assassin’s Creed on mobile” does not necessarily mean a console-style adventure that reproduces the main series. Rebellion is a strategy-RPG with short, turn-based missions and team management. Identity’s Android release is confirmed, but the available official information here does not support a detailed comparison of its gameplay, present-day compatibility, or store status. For a recommendation about what to install now, check the relevant official app store for your country and device; a historical release record alone is not enough.
