Assassin’s Creed Shadows ranked second behind Assassin’s Creed Valhalla for Day 1 sales revenue, Ubisoft said in its May 2025 earnings release. That is a launch-day revenue ranking—not a claim that Shadows has the second-highest lifetime sales or copies sold.
What Ubisoft means by “second only to Valhalla”
Ubisoft’s May 14, 2025 earnings release says Shadows, which launched on March 20, 2025, delivered the franchise’s “second-highest Day 1 sales revenue in franchise history,” behind Valhalla. The wording identifies both the measurement—revenue—and the window: the first day of sales. Ubisoft’s FY2024-25 earnings release also says Shadows set a new record for Ubisoft’s Day 1 performance on the PlayStation digital store.
Those statements do not establish a second-place ranking for lifetime revenue or copies sold. Ubisoft did not give an exact Shadows unit-sales total in that release, and the source provides no directly comparable lifetime sales total for Valhalla. A storefront record, player count, or hours played cannot be converted into a copy count.
How Shadows compared with Odyssey
Ubisoft made a separate comparison with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey: by the time of the May 2025 report, Shadows had clearly outperformed Odyssey in consumer spending and player count. That is a to-date comparison in those two measures, not a statement about unit sales or a ranking against Valhalla.

Other figures in Ubisoft’s May 2025 report
The same release listed an average score of 91/100 across first-party stores and 160 million hours played at the report’s May 2025 cutoff. These describe reception and engagement, respectively; neither is a sales total.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot called the launch “a defining moment,” saying it reaffirmed the Assassin’s Creed brand with a favorable response from long-time fans and new players. That is an attributed company statement, not a separate sales measure.

What later Ubisoft updates add
Ubisoft’s February 12, 2026 Q3 FY2025-26 sales report said Shadows released on Switch 2 during that quarter, broadening the game’s platform reach. The company also reported that Assassin’s Creed brand session days rose 28% year over year for calendar 2025 activity. That figure applies to the franchise, not just Shadows, and neither update revises the launch-day revenue ranking. Ubisoft’s investor center hosts the company’s financial reports.
In its May 20, 2026 FY2025-26 earnings release, Ubisoft said a year-on-year decline in Q4 net bookings reflected a high comparison base that included the release of Shadows and significantly higher partnerships. This is company-level financial context; it is not an updated Shadows-specific sales total.

How to read claims about Shadows sales
- Day 1 sales revenue: Ubisoft’s supported second-place ranking, behind Valhalla.
- Lifetime copies sold: not disclosed in the cited May 2025 release.
- Consumer spending and player count: Ubisoft said Shadows was ahead of Odyssey to date as of that report.
- Hours played and storefront performance: engagement and platform-specific measures, not unit sales.
Keep the metric and measurement period attached whenever comparing the games. The evidence supports a launch-day revenue ranking versus Valhalla and separate spending and player-count comparisons versus Odyssey; it does not support a series-wide lifetime unit-sales ranking.
