Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Assassin’s Creed Shadows is an ambitious open-world game for Nintendo Switch 2, but its technical story is more nuanced than a simple power showcase. Ubisoft targets 30 frames per second in both handheld and docked play, while reducing some visual settings in handheld mode. The port also supports touchscreen navigation, offline play after setup, and Ubisoft Connect cross-progression. Those are meaningful features; they are not, by themselves, proof of how consistently the game performs in every scene.
How well does Assassin’s Creed Shadows run on Switch 2?
Ubisoft’s stated target is 30 FPS in both docked and handheld modes. That is a target, not a published independent benchmark or a guarantee that every demanding scene holds the same frame rate. Ubisoft says handheld mode is more GPU-limited, so the team adjusted image quality, draw distance, and level-of-detail settings for portable play. The trade-off is straightforward: the game is designed to work in both modes, but handheld visuals are tuned differently.

Ubisoft also says it built an algorithm to keep variable refresh rate (VRR) enabled despite the 30 FPS cap. Project Lead Programmer Bruno explained that the team did not want to compromise on VRR even though its lower framerate limit is typically 40 FPS. This describes Ubisoft’s technical approach; it does not establish measured frame pacing or responsiveness across the game.
For independent impressions, Nintendo Life’s Switch 2 review describes the port as ambitious while noting that it is not perfect. TechRadar’s review reports that its reviewer spent 20 hours with the Switch 2 version and compared it with the original reviewer’s experience and Xbox Series X performance. Those reviews provide editorial assessments, not a common set of published benchmark figures that can settle precise resolution, frame-time, or platform-comparison questions.

What changes between handheld and docked play?
The clearest documented difference is Ubisoft’s handheld tuning. Because the system is more GPU-limited in handheld mode, the developer adjusted three areas:
- Image quality: adjusted for the handheld performance constraint.
- Draw distance: adjusted, which can affect how far detail is rendered.
- Level of detail (LOD): adjusted, changing the detail used for objects at different distances.
Ubisoft has not supplied a verified resolution figure in the cited port description, and the evidence here does not establish independent docked-versus-handheld measurements. It is therefore more accurate to describe a documented settings trade-off than to claim a particular resolution or say that one mode maintains a specific advantage in all scenes.

Does the Switch 2 edition include the current content?
Yes. The Switch 2 version launched on December 2, 2025. At launch, Ubisoft said it included post-launch improvements such as enhanced parkour, New Game+, and Nightmare difficulty, but the Claws of Awaji expansion was not yet available on the platform. That changed: Ubisoft made Claws of Awaji available for Switch 2 on March 10, 2026.
Ubisoft’s Title Update 1.1.11 notes list handheld GPU performance improvements for Switch 2; the rollout date was June 19, 2026. In information dated June 16, 2026, Ubisoft also said it had no plans for further major content updates and described 1.1.11 as the final major update. That is the publisher’s stated plan, not a promise that no smaller fixes will ever be released.

What Switch 2 features does the port support?
Touchscreen navigation
The touchscreen can be used to navigate menus, maps, and the hideout. Ubisoft’s launch announcement also lists the store as a touchscreen-navigation option.
Offline play and initial setup
Ubisoft says the game can be played offline in handheld or docked mode after installation and an internet connection. In other words, online access is needed for the stated setup, but the publisher says it is not required for subsequent offline play in either mode.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Assassin’s Creed Shadows worth playing on Switch 2?
It is easiest to recommend this edition to someone who values playing a large open-world game both on a television and in handheld mode, and who accepts a 30 FPS target with handheld-specific visual tuning. Its touchscreen controls, offline play after setup, and cross-progression support add practical flexibility.

If your decision hinges on exact image quality, frame pacing, or how closely the Switch 2 version matches PS5, Xbox, or PC, the available publisher specifications do not answer that comparison with measured figures. Read independent reviews such as those from Nintendo Life and TechRadar, and treat their assessments as reviewer judgments rather than a standardized benchmark. Ubisoft’s technical description is useful for understanding what the port targets and what it adjusts; it cannot substitute for measurement.
