Regular Arkveld is a High Rank monster found across all five locales in Monster Hunter Wilds; Low Rank features the distinct encounter Guardian Arkveld. Dragon is Arkveld’s only listed elemental weakness, but its hitzone values are low and vary by body part, so aim for safe openings on its wing blades or head rather than building around Dragon damage alone.
Where to find Arkveld—and which Arkveld you’re hunting
Regular Arkveld is a High Rank monster. The version-stamped monster database lists appearances in all five locales: Oilwell Basin, Windward Plains, Scarlet Forest, Ruins of Wyveria, and Iceshard Cliffs. MHWILDSBUILD.com’s Arkveld entry labels its data Ver. 1.042 and says it was verified September 6, 2026. Icy Veins likewise says High Rank Arkveld can appear in any of the five locales.
Do not confuse it with Guardian Arkveld, the Low Rank encounter. Icy Veins describes the Guardian as a related but distinct monster with a similar move set and a different encounter. Its guide covers both: Icy Veins’ Arkveld Monster Guide.
Arkveld’s weakness and the best places to aim
Dragon is the only elemental weakness listed for Arkveld, with a one-star rating out of three in MHWILDSBUILD.com’s overview. The detailed table shows why that label needs context: Dragon hitzones are 0 on the wing blades, 4 on the wings and legs, and 5 on the head, torso, hide, and tail. The same table lists Fire, Water, Thunder, and Ice at values from 0 to 5 across body parts. Dragon is therefore an available elemental option, not a uniformly strong answer on every hit.

The database describes its hitzone values as percentages of damage received. Its listed weak points are parts with raw values of 45 or higher, a threshold it associates with Weakness Exploit and Focus Strikes. Compare values by attack type rather than treating one body part as best for every weapon:

Hitzone figures are from MHWILDSBUILD.com’s Ver. 1.042 table, verified September 6, 2026. Its overview recommends Dragon to maximize damage, while the detailed values show modest, localized Dragon hitzones. The available figures do not establish that a Dragon weapon beats a high-raw option for every weapon class or build. Favor the wing blades or head when safely exposed; choose based on your weapon’s attack type and what you can hit reliably.
The same database rates Paralysis, Poison, Sleep, and Blast at two stars, and Flash, Stun, and Exhaust at one star. Those ratings indicate listed effectiveness, not that any status is mandatory for the hunt.
How to read Arkveld’s attacks and punish safely
Wait out the chainblade sequence
Arkveld can slam with either chainblade and may follow the first strike with another. Avoid committing to a long attack string until you know whether the follow-up is coming. Once a chain hits the ground, Icy Veins recommends attacking the chain; the wing blades are also among the strong raw targets in the database’s hitzone table.

Leave the frontal lane for the energy blast
When Arkveld sends a spreading energy blast forward, move out of its path to a safe side angle or behind it. Attack during the recovery rather than trying to hold position in front of the blast.
Choose a defense that fits your weapon
Icy Veins suggests a Long Sword counter or guarding with a shield weapon or Great Sword where appropriate. If those options do not suit your weapon or timing, evade or reposition instead. These are guide recommendations, not a claim that one weapon is required.
Make tail attacks a choice, not the whole plan
Icy Veins says cutting the tail is mainly useful for materials or reducing Arkveld’s range, rather than essential to the basic strategy. Its listed tail values are 45 slash, 40 blunt, and 42 shot, so it is less favorable than the wing blades or head for some attack types.
